Wanna see something sad? Check out the Steam Chart for NMS:

    http://steamcharts.com/app/275850

Dipping down to about 1,500 active players at most at any one time... and it started off with a peak of 212,000 players!

Just goes to show: if you lie about what's gonna be in your game, people are not gonna be happy...

Oh one other fun fact: Steam had to put a disclaimer on the Store page for NMS stating that they still have the regular refund policy in place (which I think is you can get a 100% refund if you spent less than 2 hours in-game? Something like that)

Steam added the note because a bunch of rampant reddit peeps were spreading misinformation about steam lifting the refund policy restrictions for NMS... so steams response was to make it clear, no they did not.

As for the dip... every single AAA title starts out strong then drops like a rock after people get to the end. Replayability lacks in those titles... and NMS has not much replay value either for the lot who just rushed it and/or gave up.

I've put it on the shelf. I'm more disgusted in their post-game update handling, than the game itself. Their devs get a grade of "F".

I figured their whole "entire galaxy to explore" would make it, y'know, replayable. But for the most part, it does seem true that those games start strong, then dwindle off rather quickly before reaching a plateau of sorts.

For example, GTA5 (which has remained on the "Most Popular" list on Steam since it came out, basically, and I would define as "very successful"): http://steamcharts.com/app/271590#All

However, a lot of Early Access games seems to have the opposite effect... starting with relatively low numbers, then (assuming competent devs) they will have bumps and gradual increases and well as decreases. Regardless, it's a very different graph.

For example, Kerbal Space Program (also quite successful): http://steamcharts.com/app/220200#All

    Empyrion: http://steamcharts.com/app/383120#All

    Savage Lands: http://steamcharts.com/app/307880#All

Those three are all kinda similar, in that they start with pretty low numbers, but have a number of bumps (likely Free Weekends, major Patches, etc) and, in the end, are still progressing more or less smoothly.

Now, compare those with these two charts:

    No Man's Sky: http://steamcharts.com/app/275850#All

    The Skies: http://steamcharts.com/app/337950#All

Now The Skies is a game most people probably aren't very familiar with, and for good reason. It's not very good. Very buggy, terrible voice acting, clunky animations... regardless, even this smoking heap of a game has a better-looking chart than NMS. Somehow they maintained good numbers for a month before letting them fall. NMS falls off instantly. Like very next day instantly. The Skies has dropped to about 17% of its original audience. NMS has dropped to 5.7%. That is simply alarming. (And, for fairness, GTA5 as mentioned above is down to 17% as well... which is still over 3 times as much as NMS)

Not sure if I had a point to this... mostly commenting on how poorly NMS has done, I suppose :p

bottom line its a shitty over priced game , no ifs no butts

its also under investigation for fraud and false advertising . Its a reminder to Early access indie developers

you want to change 60$ like an AAA ? then provide quality like an AAA

I like the game as it comes. Has most everything Empyrion didnt have I was waiting for. Dont care what others thought was in the game. It works great for me. What is 60 bucks. Game other than cheap indie games have for many years been around 60 bucks. Dont hurt me one way or the other if many dont like it. Lol

its not about individuals anymore , its about developers being liars and ripping people off .

AAA games have a 60$ point due to their quality and the amount of man hours , indie games cant justify that . they lack that quality

you liking it has nothing to do with it being an actual good game . its a mess so far .

the statement was not directed towards you

Well you called it a shitty game. As is I don't think it is. But yes to bad Hello Games didn't build what they said they would. But its the players fault for jumping the gun. Before a Lets Play or Walk through could be done, so they can see if it's all they thought it would be.

NMS has dropped tens of thousands of players over the last couple of weeks.
% wise thats pretty horrific and shows the game is not very replayable or as diverse as they would have hoped for.

thats my problem with your post.

IT IS NOT the fans fault at all . The game is missing features that were hyped by the developers them selves

More lies than you can poke a stick at, how fast people forget this to defend this garbage game, its just not the game we were promised, and its not a AAA game, thats a serious insult to all AAA games......
Empyrion is a thousand times better in its alpha form than Some Mans Lies.

Wow, that is amazing. First, that all the fraudulent behavior took place, and second; that you linked it all! Nicely done. I love it when people cite sources so thoroughly.

not holding my breath the features they hyped get patched into the game. if they drop the price and offer a sale, I might try it
    maybe.

PC owners will benefit from the mod community making portals function somewhat, terrain variety, denser forests, flying in water and close to the ground--stuff Hello Games could have done several patches ago.

I haven't played NMS yet and probably won't for the foreseeable future due to the reviews this game has been getting but, it seems to me like this "procedural generation" they use picks from a list of textures and features. The problem is , it sounds like theres only a couple different textures and only 1 feature to choose from. Sure thats procedural generation to a "T" right there but you need alot more than a handful of things to choose from. Even with the slightly more varied textures and features EGS has for its planets, it still wouldnt be enough for a procedural generation without seeming painfully repetitive. I think if EGS goes that direction they first need to create a couple hundred distinctly different major terrain features and textures to overlay on the terrain to make it seem like its not just one thing in a different color.

NMS creators were in it for the money and for all of those who preordered the game or spent money on it after its release date, you've been played by some crafty advertisers only in it for the money. EGS is in it for the money too but they want you to spend it on a quality game. It may still be in alpha and still has a plethora of bugs ranging from minor inconveniences to infuriating game breakers, but it's still a great game and the devs are taking their time on it. You can't rush a masterpiece otherwise you get what we call "Interpretive Art", which is just a fancy way a saying "an ugly, overpriced POS".

Yes there animal procedural thing is interesting, and makes some cool stuff, but right after that it makes a creature that looks so utterly stupid looking that then runs into a wall and spazzes out for 30 minutes stuck in the meshing of a cave wall.

Was a great idea I agree, but so poorly implemented it destroyed any hope that feature had of becoming something special.

This whole games affair has been one big disappointment after the other, I try to play it once a week but I last minutes now and have to rage quit !

In the USA I would not be suprised if a class action was started for fraud, the USA is nice and strict about fraud, and that post above has so much incriminating evidence that they Knowingly lied for months, wouldnt suprise me at all if Hello and maybe even Sony get dragged into court.

You and I must know two very different United States... :) Are we not the same country that has Donald Trump AND Hilary Clinton running for president?(along with their and everyone else's oh-so-ethical behavior towards Humanist governance. :))

And please do not, everyone, rattle off your political affiliations and opinions. I get it, everyone likes to think they are all sorts of clever about who they are voting for.

Also, Piddlefoot, where are you from? And if you would like to remain mysterious, that is fine too.

I think Sony may have had something to do with the missing/cut content. I don't trust corporations much, and as a gaming/electronics mogol, Sony may have had something in the contract with HG that ultimately made it so there would have to be paid DLC ( which was said there wouldn't be by HG ) in order for them to continue funding. Why wouldn't anything have been said about it? Non-disclosure agreement in the Sony - HG contract.

That being said, I enjoyed NMS for a while, have over 200 hrs in, but now it's mostly for some interesting screenshots for desktop background.
Have had EGS for almost 2 weeks and have been enjoying it immensely.
