I decided to go back in time to some of my earliest builds and update them. Mostly removing blocks that did not match very well , then updating them using what I have learned. The Heavy Shuttle was originally made before the open cockpit became available, after it became available I made a second version of the ship using the open cockpit. I have a fond memory of this ship, attaching a drone base, upside down and still firing at a enemy turret.
I started work on my Asymmetrical CV today... My brain really doesn't like ships without symmetry it seems. I was getting more and more annoyed while I built it - despite doing some nice designs with glass-lined corridors looking into points of interest, such as the engine room, fuel tanks, crafting area etc. I've exited the game now as really wasn't happy, but I might actually abandon the project all together now & restore the server backup I took last night... hmmm. Scoob.
Been working on my castle some more. I was working on one of the towers. It's narrow and there's not much space. Rather than fill it with a bunch of useless rooms I simply made it look like the lower floors had collapsed. I can't have people falling in with no way out so I added a rudimentary jumping puzzle. I came up with some nifty looking arches for the entry points to the hedge maze that I was happy with and the plan was to add benches and sculptures to serve as landmarks so I'm sitting there working on decorations and it hit me. It's a maze....so now it has pacman and some ghost sculptures. I managed to squeeze a couple more video game references into the building design. Unfortunately I haven't been able to fit Centipede or Asteroids in there. I've also started building a "base" that will serve as a library of all the neat architectural ideas I run across. I'll add to it as I find new ideas. Then I can just plop that down whenever I'm working on something to have a handy reference. Edit: Centipede and Asteroids references worked in. Not sure about the Centipede one though. Edit 2: Worked in a Zelda and a Tetris reference for good measure.
I might go at it again fresh tomorrow and see how I get on - I was getting real CV building fatigue this morning. I'm at least going to strip all the engines out, as not entirely happy with the placement, plus I used Directional Thrusters - 14 of them - which are already far to weak and the thing is a slug while still just a shell. I had been building super-light CV's of late out of normal Steel blocks, with the odd bit of Hardened here and there. They would never get into serious combat, just having to shoot the odd drone that got too close, so were perfectly up to their assigned task. Part of me is considering holding off until the large update we're due is available. If I'm honest, I've put an excessive amount of time into Empyrion of late, so a little break and a return to a new version fresh and keen might be the key. My playfield tweaks have extended the game a nicely for me, but when you can meet every attack with ease - if you are on base at least - even with groups of six drones attacking three to four times a game day. Just adding more drones isn't the key to more enjoyment for me now, I need to see what the new update will bring. All that being said, I'll likely be back on my server again tomorrow - like I have been pretty much every day since I got the game on the 19th of August lol. Scoob.
Welcome to Ningues Spaceport. Please be aware that the planet is still considered hostile and drone attacks can occur without warning. There's a drone hovering in the distance, to the left. The drone base is the dark blob under it. I built it here on purpose to see what would happen so it offers only very basic functionality and the ability to accommodate my CV. So far so good.
I hear ya Scoob. I wanted to encourage you if the primary drawback was the mind/emotions/etc. But I have sloooowwwweeeedddd waaaaaaaw down on the game since I know a larger addition is coming, so I do not wish to be a hypocrite or contradictory. What is truly ridiculous, is that the wait is making me steadily more and more impatient, and then with revelations from piddlefoot's announcement thread that though large, this might not be the booming update I was hoping for, has me a little frustrated. But! I am beginning to tangent due to frustrations. Suffice it to say, maybe put down the design until you are ready? Designing a-symmetrical ships is challenging. Do it when it becomes or is fun for you.
Today I attempted to assault the drone base on foot in my survival game, and was reminded one of the reasons I so typically delete my saves after a death... The drone base was located in a steep basin. With just a T1 sniper (best I could do with level 9, after continual defeats at other bases thanks to troop transport drops) I had to be inside 195m to do damage to its turrets. I had cover because it was a very uneven mountainside, great vantage point, but to get close enoughi had to be very exposed dropping down the mountain as fast as I dared. Place was double swarming with drones because there was a large patrol at an abandoned factory right next to the drone base. Knew it was going to be hairy but I really wanted to win this, so I made a backup and charged for the nearest cover that got me close enough. I was taking it cautiously and it wad going well until a rocket drone snuck up on me and blasted me, naturally I ran.... out from behind my meager cover, where the drone base annihilated me. (Why isn't there an exit to menu option on the death screen? I hate waiting for it to load all over just so I can hit esc and quit...) So I loaded up the backup and try again from a different angle with better cover. Unfortunately this second try I got pinned down by troop transport's dropping a squad off, then an Overseer chased me out of my good cover, by the time that thing died I had four minigun drones on me and I was dangerously exposed to the base, ran back for my cover only to find out it had been seized by troops... And I kicked the bucket again. So I load up that backup again, and... realize my second attempt had been saving to it this whole time, so both my saves are defeated. Sigh. Why can't it just act like a normal save system? One of these days I'll get off Omicron....
Don't give up! My first one was hard too, but I was able to do it. I know ya can too! Now that I got my first one done i'm tempted to do more! For the Topic: Posting of Tyrax Asymm "Barney" on the Asymmetry Thread complete!
I just noticed a new Experimental (4.0!) is available, didn't expect that on a Sunday! @Tyrax Lightning - I'll be taking a rain check on that Asym CV for the moment...I plan to get back to it, or start afresh though. @Fractalite - thanks for the encouragement, sometimes I need a push lol. I'm going to just play as I normally do in 4.0, trying the new features as I go. Hopefully this will help uncover any issues with this Experimental version. I think I will run this on my server, rather than SP - though that would involve overwriting my various tweaks...hmm, I have copies, it's all good! On Topic: What did I do in Empyrion today? I started a new 4.0 Game! Scoob.
Well, I've had a good few hours in 4.0 Experimental 0639, and here's what I've been doing... I started a new, hard, Akua Single Player game - I had weird Steam issues on my Server machine, it ended up re-downloading the entire game in the end before things started working - I played SP in the interim as my BB is dead slow. I loot the Pod and set off to explore my very resource-poor map, only uncovering handful of Resource Deposits and getting a bit too close to a POI lol. I'm also seeing LOTS of drones on Patrol. These are not just sticking near resources and POI's, but appear to be making quite wide patrol routes. I got jumped by one and had to dive into a nearby Lake to avoid it, good job too as a second one came along the moment I engaged the first. I continued exploring until I came to a large lake, there was a resource point near by, with a drone guarding it, but also three free-roaming drones in the area. I traversed the lake - entirely under water - to avoid these guys, before making a run for it. After a short while I discovered the rear part of the Titan wreck. Nice. It had two drones defending it, so I dashed in on the Bike, jumped off, and took cover in the wreck. Popping my head out I managed to take down both drones, took me a good 50+ bullets (I evidently suck at hitting that red "eye" on the front) but I got about the same number back as part of the dropped loot. I started exploring the wreck - I pretty much know where all the goodies are now - then started clearing more dirt and rocks with the intent of exploring further, before possibly making a temporary base there. I dug down a bit, uncovering a door, and was surprised to get the "Wrong faction or no core present" message. Hmm, looks like we cannot just claim/recycle these wrecks right from the start now - that's a good change. During my exploring, replacement drones fly in quite frequently, so I pause what I'm doing to engage. I eventually build an Assault Rifle to help me, and burn through the last of my Iron building barely enough ammo. Luckily, one of the resource spots I discovered was Iron and undefended, I head out to do a little mining. I return, incident-free with 155 Iron Ore - that'll do for now. I have a couple of hundred rounds of AR ammo now, but I'm very low on Magnesium - I've not discovered a single deposit of that yet. I clear some more dirt etc. uncovering a lot more of the wreck, I delve into the two pods either side and partially clear the lower levels out. I then clear some more dirt to get to the door to the command tower bit of the wreck. I had to blast the door (T1 Pistol) to get to the lift of course, but once up there I got some more loot. Nothing particularly good over all, just the usual blocks - including both small and large type, the former being new to this update of course - as well as two sniper rifles, a few bullets and, most importantly, four growing plots and various seedlings. Nice. I decide it's time to make this structure mine - at least until I've built up enough to make a proper base. In preparation, I build a Fuel Tank, Small Generator and Large Constructor, then set the Survival Constructor making Cement from the excessive amount of Stone I've mined while clearing the Titan wreck. I walk a little way from the wreck, in order to use the "cheat" where the target indicator on the HUD shows the POI's name over where the Core is located. I start digging towards the location marked, which was below the wreck, rather than in part of the main structure as I expected. Digging diagonally down, I encounter some additional blocks I don't recall being there during previous games when I excavated the wreck, so I proceed, encouraged. I retreat a bit to confirm the HUD marker location, it appears to be slightly under these blocks, so I mine some more. Finding nothing but more rock in the direction I was digging, I retreat once more to confirm my bearings, hmm, my tunnel looks dead on target. I use the sniper scope to look at the hud marker... marker says 15 metres away, yet my sight is on rock 20 metres away in the right direction. Odd. I draw my Pistol and start shooting some of those new blocks I mentioned. I destroy several - causing something not even connected to break off the command tower lol - but find nothing. So, a somewhat frustrating start thus far. I'd planned to start a new game, and get up and running quickly via looting and reclaiming Titan wreck parts, before building a proper base. However, I've been totally unable to find the Core in this wreck part! I hope there IS a core, and the devs haven't just made these wrecks unclaimable. The multi-tool is useless of course if there's a Core present - and the message suggests there is one. The irony is of course than the Titan is MY ship.... So, there you go, a fun game start with all those drones, but a somewhat frustrating conclusion. I'm continuing to play at this moment, but there is no more story to tell. If anyone knows what's going on, or they've found the Core for the Rear part of the Titan wreck then please let me know!! Scoob.
I'm slowly but surely making progress but this castle base is taking forever. It's also become a game of how many video game references can I include.
(Game is medium-difficulty SP survival with a start on Akua. It's my first start with about 200 hours played; I am loving this game and the emergent gameplay that survival mode entails. I've already pacified Akua and Oscutune but have tried to employ conservation, so have left as many resource deposits untouched as possible. My goal is to establish mining bases throughout the system to ensure resource availability.) I've established my Omicron mining base within what was once a Xenu Power Station. Today I've decided to take out the neighboring Drone Base, which lies only 450 meters to the west. I start with an early-morning milk run to top up on water, oxygen and hydrogen at my generator stills located in a small lake about four clicks south, using my Argo utility craft. I fortuitously stock up on some meat when I run across a pod of arachnids while on the run back home. During the flight back, I make an observation of the topography surrounding the Drone Base. It lies on a flat plain extending hundreds of meters in all directions, but about 180m to the west there is a small gully. The obvious, and safe strategy would be to attempt to take out the turrets and any errant drones from cover of the gully using my Elite sniper rifle, using the topology to my advantage. Instead, I opt for a frontal assault from altitude using rockets. Back at base, and with repairs completed, I reexamine my options. I may have taken out a turret or two, but there are several more extant. I elect to fly the Argo into the western gully and proceed with the safer option of assault on foot. Taking a wide loop to the south and west, I safely land the Argo within the confines of the gully. I quickly arm myself using the ship's stores, and no sooner as there are three attack drones almost on top of me, and already landing hits on the Argo. I move out of the ship and quickly dispatch the drones using a combination of sniper rifle and minigun rounds, using my own drone to loot their hulls. A lone desert spider attempts to sneak up on me, but tastes only my minigun. Salami is made. Three turrets are left: two pulse, one plasma. One by one, they go down. All clear, I pilot the Argo into close range.
The dragon turned out ginormous but I like it. I spent a lot of hours playing Adventure back in the day. If I'm going to have a castle with classic video game tributes I had to include it. Not shown in the pic....the Triforce, a couple guys from Berserk, Tetris(on the side of a tower), and references to Space Invaders and Yar's Revenge. The pacman references stand out pretty easily but can you spot the Mario Brothers or Asteroids reference in the pic?
Have you tried just placing your own Core? That message is something I haven't seen on the Titan since pre-alpha and that version of the ship had no Core (as per the second part of the error message).
Yeah, he mentioned trying that in a Prior Post & it was a no go. Also got confirmed in another Thread by Hummel that it's not intended & thus may be a bug.
Today I went mining on Masperon for Zascosium... when I had gathered all the Zascosium I needed, I went to leave the planet, but I spotted a Promethium deposit that called out to me...evil Promethium... so there I was mining away yapping with a friend on Teamspeak and hit the R key to reload my mining drill...nothing... I look up to the rim of the suddenly very deep hole I was standing in the bottom of while thinking to myself "aww dang..."
I know how it feels to do that... that's why I try to leave myself a buffer of current charge + has to be at least one more after that before I Mine more Underground & less then that & ALL remaining Charge is for getting back to Base to Reload on Charges.
lol I'm normally good about that as well, it was the yapping and not paying attention... rather hilarious lesson learned... lol
