I already thought of that... that's why i'm putting my bet on Siege ending up dying a horrible spear death while trying to not die horrible drone death.
It would have been a shame if the drone had accidentally shot one. I'd've been real choked up about it. Honest! There might have been tears. That thought did occur to me. That's why I was trying to get the drone to shoot them first. /may or may not have been planning to lay waste to the entire village before the drones forced a change in plans
I'm gonna laugh my ass off if a Drone hits a Talon Guardian & suddenly all the Talon Guardians are swarming YOU instead of the Drones. I've encountered that kinda Artificial Stupidity before. (Starbound comes to mind... Ya can wander into a damn NPC Village made of freaking WOOD RNG Parked on a VOLCANIC PLANET then have Fire rain from the Sky YOU had nothing to do with & have all the Castle Guards swarming you with murder in their eyes & Town Villagers screaming accusations at you being a Thief because Items dropped by the Block Breakage accidentally get auto-picked up by ya. NEVER RUSH THE DEVS PEOPLES!!! If the Cake's not done, the Cake's not done dammit! )
So tonight I decided to take a break from texturing outside and decided to start on one of the rooms inside. Not entirely sure about the brick textured design that's going half way through but thought I'd see what you guys think.
More testing of my first completed ship design, the Bumblebee. It's an SV designed for compactness and survivability. Features are 3 RCUs, 2 generators, 3 fuel tanks, 3 ammo boxes, 5 cargo boxes, O2 station and tank, fridge. Compactness makes it harder to hit and a double layer hull bottom means that critical systems won't be shot to pieces. Armament is 4 gatling guns clustered in the nose. One tap on the LMB takes out any drone and a longer burst demolishes POI cannons in one pass. Thrusters: 16 small for maneuvering and 3 medium for forward thrust, 2 medium for reverse. So far I've taken down 3 defended POIs and I was able to fly home each time nothing more than the loss of some blocks off the nose and a few dents elsewhere. Raiding the abandoned mine was real fun because I could taxi the Bumblebee into the mine's "underground parking" and shoot out enough walls so that sniping the critters was easy. It's currently Private on the Steam workshop because I want to a bit more testing.
I concluded my 4.x Single Player playthrough this last weekend. My goal was to get into a CV with a minimum of time and effort. My base was the upper level of the Abandoned Mine. Its a better start than using part of the Titan. I did put a Cannon Turret on it to deal with the Drone attacks, but they never showed up. Interestingly, the Cannon Turret did take out the Troop Transport as it flew over responding to my antics elsewhere. Sadly, the Troop Transport's wreck fell through a mountain and was unrecoverable. I built one HV that was effectively a motorcycle with a cargo box. I built one SV that had two cargo boxes. Both were non-combat designs to facilitate transport and haul a little cargo. Any time I decided to leave them in the field, I just dug a cave-garage for them. Avoiding the alien POIs and mining everything you need for a CV was feasible. To wrap up the game, I cleared Akua of alien bases. This was accomplished by tunneling into each of them. In previous games I've attacked them with HVs, SVs, and CVs. Tunneling into a POI gives the greatest reward for the investment. Clobbering a POI with a CV has usually been the most satisfying. I didn't experiment with the Auto Mining Devices because they're described as taking lots of time. I wasn't worried about changes to HVs and SVs. The last couple of times I've played the game I guess I've not really cared for combat using the SVs. Maybe I'm too inept as a pilot. Maybe it just seems to me that it should be a bunch of SVs attacking a base. As a solo player, a covert assault in powered armor seems more apropos. As for HVs, I think they've got lots of neat possibilities such as anti-aircraft (aka drone), but again a solo HV against a base seems weird. CVs weapons are automated, which I guess is why I gravitate towards using those. Multiplayer would change all of this, of course.
Built more POIs The Observation Post came out nicely. It is Tier Zero, which means it has no turrets, but not undefended. the background story has the Pharos setting up observation posts when there are interesting things to study on the planet, like wildlife, natives or natural phenomena. It is meant to be taken by a player without an SV, so there are no turrets. Loot is mostly white with some yellow sprinkled in. I am somehow not really happy with the Communication Relay, it looks clumsy. I didn't go in and design something that looks like a terran tv-tower, but the result pretty much resembles one. This structure has the added difficulty that is is made of steel and I had severe SI issues before it finally stood upright. I think I built the antenna around 4 times. It is also quite prone to collapsing when being shot at with high-damaging weapons but if the player chooses to, he will miss out the good loot. But I still keep it. These structures seem to be far more massive than the prefab alien bases, if ut side by side the Pharos dwarf the Epsilon or Xenu for instance. Also played with a program that can sink a POI into the ground, so I am finally able to make a mine, or a submerged hangar. Can't wait to try myself at that. Since I am still shuffling structures around between tiers (the food facility is now tier 2 and has some mean anti air defence) I will wait until I actually release them.
Made another HPOD modification, called it the Eagle Ray. I really need to make something with a different body shape....
Designed a new minimal CV runabout. No garden plots or hanger area this time. Then after visiting all the planets on an MP server, went back to Oscutune to settle in. The massive pad will first repair the CV and then may be the start of a massive base. Also plan to build a mega structure in space. The question is "Can you set up a BA starter block in space?" Could fix CV's there if you can.
Yes you can, Zin, set up a BA in space. Today, I finished adding an Airstrip to Alpha Complex. I hit L20, so I spawned in a pair of my Lightnings, and faffed about with my first wingblock design, which is now a Hornet. We've strip-mined Omicron, now my group is ready to take on the orbital shipyard, and build a CV to get the heck out of this system.
Another 2 Rooms of the Alien POI Contest Entry done! I might actually get it done in time to Submit! Then I still have to deal with my Paranoia of if this Entry will be any good or not...
Thoughtful work on your base and ships! I like both the designs and your use of textures and colors. The landing strip is an excellent touch.
Working on my Moon base. I also tried out the new SV engines I guess they are supposed to be jet like engines. I think they look pretty good.
I feel with you. I find it even more challenging to have interesting and believable interiors than making a stunning looking exterior. Currently working on the interior of the Ore Processing Facility, the exterior took me just a few hours, but the interior... And finally when it all looks good enough, there needs to be enough space for a decent firefight and some loot. Since were not exactly here for the sights, are we?
So its called halojumping XD i do this all the time when i am bored with a t2 pistol and 2 stacks of ammo i fly with an sv into atmosphere and then enter the planet by jetpack over the poi target and yeah soft land jetpack ... So i am building a kind of transportship cv out of hardened steel i finsisched the outer hull and the generator room, now i will try using it in PVE for testing of fuelusage manuverabilty warp etc
