I used the wall edges glow technique on my teeny tiny HV Rebel Star a few days before you released Drifter... and then shelved the idea in my nicely compartmentalized brain.... only to have yanked back out by said Drifter. This intrusion leading me to realize, "This is an absurdly cool looking effect, why am I not doing this on ALL my ships....?" Plus you, Jenniphurr, and Vexray contributed by simply being brilliant designers and helping to stimulate new ideas.
& yet, it handles this for Symbol Rotation just fine...? *Reads 10 billion other Posts about 10 billion ways to go about this...* I wonder if THIS in & of itself is why we can't already do it yet...?
The Mining Outpost is coming along. After a bit of inspiration I turned the first building into a warehouse of sorts designed to store and move freight so lots of cargo containers, some ceiling deco to look like a crane in the basement garage area, several freight elevators to transfer cargo between floors, etc. The main floor is another loading area for freight. I changed the door out for a hangar door because that made more sense for moving shipping containers. Constructors everywhere. Power generator room on the top two floors. Med bay on one of the lower floors. I'm still working on the power generator room. I've rebuilt it three times now. I built a cafeteria style mess hall in the second building main floor but I've got four more floors to do something with. One will be a barracks and I'll probably turn another into food production. I'm not sure what to do with the last two floors yet. I added more complexity to the building exteriors and reworked building #2 to add windows. Rooftops are done too. Just need to finish this power gen room and then I can get back to the second building.
I got ideas for those 2 Floors: 1: a large Restroom + Shower area with actual REAL Privacy for each Toilet & Shower Stall, & 2: a huge Gaming Floor for Off Duty People to play cool games during their Off Time, like perhaps, "Empyrion: Galactic Survival"!
Started to put something together for a something something seeing a huge void, so it means a few days of building and detailing the hell out of it for sure.
I did make one floor a locker room area but I turned the last floor into an operations/air traffic control room. It's mining outpost, not a vacation getaway. I'm not a complete slave driver though. I did add some rec room space to the barracks area. Maybe if they ever add things like pool tables and other recreational deco items I might devote more space to it.
So it's been a few days since I had the chance to sit down and play. I'm planning for a survival game... serious this time about going above and beyond the starter planets. I've never set down on any other body except the moons, except the ice planet in creative. Anyway, after I put the finishing polish on a barebones SV hull ripe for a survival game starter, I turned my thoughts to first CV. Something small, compact, spawned with just steel. I didn't care if I designed something without room for a warp drive, if it meant I could bolt one to the outside went I needed it, that would be fine. Anyway, I tried stone designs and nothing was really clicking. So I pulled up some of my older designs. I started updates on the Notoro, a stubborn favorite of mine, but I went on deco spree and this ship is definitely not an early survival thing...it's kinda big for that. And not maneuverable enough to be worth a dang in late game either. So I turned to the Atmora. Originally built in a survival game, although it's design is far from space efficient, I stayed removing some of the expensive deco items and optimizing. Things like... why in the world did I pack a T2 generator in a ship with a max consumption of 500kw??! Tore that out, put in a small generator. And hey, I found room for a large constructor! So changes like that I like. There's room up upgrade most of the engines, so there's that. Storage space was a problem with my last survival game sadly. So one tweak I haven't decided to keep, I somehow managed to cram 14 cargo boxes into an incredibly small and awkwardly shaped space and still have them all accessible. Not sure if I like it because all it takes it's a few stray rockets aaand... no more cargo. At all. Sorry, you're doomed. I'll probably build something new, but for now it's been fun tweakifying my existing designs.
Just disassembled my original Base - before the latest update to the experimental branch - and built a magnificent new one. Now I'm staring morosely at the color and texture tools.
Details and colouring... the bane of my designs! That and making things actually look like they belong in a space game!
I'm still trying to build a CV that doesn't look like a bus with fins or a base that doesn't look like Soviet-era tractor factory.
Okay, I just had to walk home. I was scouting some areas that I'd yet to look at and I was being lazt about it. I found two POIs by virtue of coming out of the mountains between them. My compact SV didn't stand a chance. Not to much of a loss though, it was my starter SV and it had lasted me through two CVs.
Those Drones need to get a room! For the Topic: I'm trying like hell to decide how I wanna go about making a new Mining HV for the GMTs, but it's being slow going partially cause of RL & partially cause I keep changing my mind about how I wanna do various aspects of the build.
Make it huge they said. Huge was a step too far. So owkay. Building the inner frame for my mobile base cv. 2 16x16 hangars with 2 levels in between. Messing around to add a top with defences and the command centre (pve) I wanted a tower effect and I am definitely getting there
