I decided to try my hand at a miner HV today. So I took my old "bare minimum" HV and decked it out. Before and After: Once I had it done I followed the instructional video by finding a spot, turning off the front hover engines, and digging. Ran into a slight problem... Got out with the T2 drill and widened the bottom of the hole until I could level the HV. I was too deep to get out using the boosters, so I dug west hoping to reach a lake and get out that way. I eventually hit the "Green Wall" and it punted me back to the surface.
Jorm 1.0 is a bust. It looks cool but it's not getting the job done. The drills aren't making contact enough and don't clear enough terrain to justify the vehicle size. Plus, it's tricky to maneuver. I'd have to redesign the back end to taper off more. Back to the drawing board. Edit: I may yet get this to work. Still trying different configurations with the drill modules. Running into some weird hitbox issues with them. Looks like the drilling surface area needs to be wider than the vehicle body, at least for a vehicle this size. I still think they need a wider radius of effect and they should probably go ahead and add T2 laser drill modules. Spoiler Mikemc posted a compact mining HV yesterday I like a lot. Nice design. I uh, may have ripped out the internals and reconfigured it for my use. Just added a few little things you know...like o2, a fridge, a constructor, some more cargo. Passengers? Pfft. Who needs 'em. Came across a research station on Akua that was built around an alien artifact to study it. It seemed abandoned and I needed some spare parts so I helped myself......to most of the base, but I left the alien artifact completely untouched because that's the kind of person I am. I'm really liking these new POI's in 5.0. Made one of them my main base and have enjoyed exploring and then dismantling the other ones. I finally have a CV ready and am looking forward to seeing the new POI's on the other planets. Any advice on which planet got the coolest new ones?
From my rather limited investigation into drills, I'm beginning to suspect that the "Drill Effect" is located forward of the drill point and the radius is only a consequence of the voxel deformation. I've noticed they can get stuck where they appear to be in contact with the terrain but they aren't drilling, on closer inspection the point of the drill is often found to be not in contact.
They are all really cool. Be sure to pack a well armed and armored SV to investigate the freighters too.
Siege Siege! I have a an amazing idea for you! Take Mike's idea and pair it with THIS: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=813578363 Make your Jorm but make it tentacly and such! I was just about to do it after I finished this Minigun skimmer I am brainstorming, but you should take it and run with it! It will be sweet!
Guilty. I was pondering how to go about a HV with Mining & Harvester at the same time... ya beat me to it! Also, try a Diagonal Shaft next time. The appropriate response in this case is to literally laugh your ass of at them openly because they did that to you because they are too Coward to challenge REAL foes that are at an actual comparable Power Level. Bonus Points if ya go about this in a Klingon Manner. For a proper Mining HV, yes, the Width & Height of the HV should not ever exceed the width of the outer Drill Radius of the Drill AoE in any part of the Design. Also, if your HV has no Turrets, Passenger Seats are indeed optional & easily Omitted, especially for SP Use. Thus far, in my Shamelessly Biased Opinion, Masperon. Seconded. It's annoying that the side part of the Drill Head can't harm the Terrain. :/
Got tired of trying to count out block lengths so I made a very long ruler to measure. Figured I would share: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=823572022 (yes it is a CV you can move it around) Oh and I also made a 6 DOF ruler: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=823590421
Discovered that there is no seaweed (biofuel) on Masperon. Makes surviving there a bit of a dim prospect unless I can find some coils. On the flipside I built a manger (nativity) and decked it out with some spacemen things (like the wise men who travelled far would have wanted me to)
Apparently there were issues when they increased the range of affect. They need to work it out and/or simply add laser drill modules. The current ones are less than ideal. That was going to be my next project actually. Something more open concept with lots of pipes and such. With the Jorm I was going for more Unicron/Sandworm.
I wouldn't be surprised if these did get Implemented later as a T2 HV Mining Drill. IMHO would only make sense.
Today in Empyrion I made myself sick. I'm building a huge ring station with four gravity generators, pointing "down" the same direction as outward from the center of the ring. Having competed the hull, it's time to do the exterior painting. Decided to do this with the jetpack/godmode off and just run the loop inside doing the floor, next couple passes around the ring doing the walls... I made myself sick running the loop. Going and going, gravity constantly tipping upward and never down, apparently triggered some disorienting motion sickness. Never had a game do that to me...
I just wrote a guide for Masperon: http://empyriononline.com/threads/how-to-survive-masperon-and-other-dangerous-feats.8676/ Sadly it is awaiting moderation so you cannot click the link yet, but when it is ready, do enjoy!
I know that feeling all too well. Halflife 2, Dishonored, Bioshock Infinite (a little) and even Minecraft on fullscreen / default textures have done that to me. I suspect it has more to do with a combination of 1st-person, FOV settings, and the game's color choices though. My sympathies. So... tonight I dug up a prototype / relic from when I was designing the Nephilim, and tried to make something of it. Slating this as a lvl 10 "starter" CV, for the Endurance Series (hence the color scheme). Basic steel, though I might boost that up to full Hardened when I'm done, if it doesn't bring the thrust vectors down too much. ...and I have no idea what to call this lopsided abomination. Ideas, anyone?
