So true! Hmm, that would be a tough challenge! Maybe something like an "exoskeletal" kind of look to the ship, building the hull completely out of pipes? I'd love to see what you can come up with for an all-pipe design!
did you mean something like this? or more like this? Honestly, it got me thinking, but I have no idea what to do with it
Either of you fellas ever get into off-roading, two-tracking, anything of that sort? I'd recommend looking up some pictures of rock crawlers and exoframe trucks. Might give you some ideas on how you can build something that's (almost) completely out of tubes!
Polaris Space Industries PM-18 "Sampo" "In Finnish mythology Sampo was a magical artifact that made flour, salt and gold out of thin air" Built as a mining ship, "Sampo" doesn't have many luxuries - but it does the job it's designed to do. Its a very small Capital Vessel basically consisting of skeleton frame holding the necessary equipment to make the ship function. In addition to mining turret, "Sampo" has a cannon turret in the rear purely for self defense. "Sampo" is usually fitted with three PMC-5 "Armadillo" armoured mobile containers and one PHM-2 "Mole II" hover miner. "Sampo" mining inside Promethium asteroid. Three large mining containers makes sure that "Sampo" doesn't run out of storage even on long mining runs. Hover miner can be docked under the fuselage - making this ship useful all-around mining rig for planetary mining too. Sampo has three PMC-5 "Armadillo" armoured mobile containers. Mining container shells are small vessels that the ore can be unloaded into and flown straight to the manufacturing plant View inside the PMC-5 "Armadillo" armoured mobile container cockpit.
SICK!!! Any chance you're putting this up on the workshop? I like how you've planned out the containers, and how they function with the ship itself. Definitely looks the part, excellent job on the hull design. It looks very "industrial", rugged and very goal-oriented.
This is an epic win design! I totally dig its Industrial look that also looks like it's totally fully practical & effective at its job! One thing though, ya forgot the Workshop Link to send me to its Workshop Page to deliver a Like... unless this is a Personal Use only dude, which I can totally understand.
I'm having flashbacks about a recent build... dang large hollow pipes you can make in game are a nighmare to paint/texture/place because you can paint/texture the outside when you're trying to only do the inside. Just waiting for the Drill turrets to come out of experimental and I'll put it up.
For some reason, I like cubic ships So, after a few designs, I decided to try my hand at a functional 2001 Space Odyssey monolith-class ship. There were others out there, but were not to my liking or they insisted it be vertical (cool, but very impractical!). So here it is: the Arthur C. Clarke II, Monolith-class exploration vessel Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=844601849 Screenies:
Thanks! Lack of resources inspired to build a no-frills design with a purpose. Was actually really fun to build that way. Thanks a lot! It does its job, I can get close to asteroids and being small and lightweight (476 tons) its nimble enough to get around them with very few thrusters. Haven't uploaded anything to Steam Workshop before but I will look into that.
I bet it was! Amazing that it came out this well, given that you built it this way out of necessity. I think that makes it even more intriguing!
With the Asturia and the Magellan/Vespucci, there wasn't a place anymore for the poor, old Danger Zone. So I rebuilt her from scratch as a "premium" multipurpose vessel for 5.1. *orchestra* http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=845671296
More like *'80s rock music with Tom Cruise on a motorcycle* Awesome ship, and cool idea with the alert-level light settings for the bridge area. The overall shape of the hull is pretty unique, and you've made it work quite well here. Overall, a badass ship! Good one, and a nice improvement over the original iteration.
Okay, I got Steam Workshop up and running. It's a mining CV with four dockable SV/HV's, hope you don't mind me linking them here too as they are practically part of the ship. Yay update! I put this on the workshop before but didn't have time to post it up here. Anyways here it is, the Lode Gigant. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=846079914
Thanks , its got no armor too! The EVE ships are beautiful aren't they? When I started the build I wanted something like the Hulk/Orca but something unique of-course. It's amazing how similar the bridges are but I didn't even try to copy the one off of the Orca (I promise, maybe my subconscious did lol), I just like that particular style of industrial/military that you find on actual ships today, I mean, just gotta look at my other builds really .
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! I was gonna rebuild it myself, but I'm much happier you did it with your build sense and style. LOVE IT! This post made me extremely happy.
