NOTE: We could also call it a "Pillage Core", but if we do that then players must bellow "AAAAaaaaRRR" in Pirate Voice whenever they place one... ;)

Idea: New block/device called a Salvage Core

    Benefit:
    - Less resource intensive in conjunction with new Base Attack mechanics
    - Less proliferation of "owned bases" (that aren't truly "bases") around a playfield

    Details:

When taking control of a POI, players can (at their option) use a Salvage Core instead of a normal Core. The Salvage Core would be quicker to build, take slightly less resources to make, and have slightly less mass and volume.

The Salvage Core is closely related to a normal Core, with the following characteristics...

    A Salvage Core CAN:
    • Allow players to salvage devices and block with the same 100% recovery chance of either full block/device or components (just like a normal Core)
    • Allow players to access the Control Panel to determine device load out, set devices to "Show in HUD" to find them, and to access all containers and tanks (Fuel, O2, Pent) to collect contents and siphon fuels.
    • Allow players to rename the POI (this is something I do, particularly on large planets, to denote status with Alphanumeric codes)

    A Salvage Core CANNOT:
    • Players cannot PLACE any block or device on the POI
    • Players cannot pilot any CV/HV/SV that already has the required components for movement (example: you can use a Salvage Core to tear down a CV found in the Polaris minefield, but you can't use one to fly a ship out of the field)
    • Players cannot manipulate the CP or devices in any way (assigning lock codes, signal logic, etc.)

Essentially, it would be a core that makes the POI "Public" with certain restrictions (as noted above).

    Why?
As noted in the summary, this core would allow for full salvaging, WITHOUT adding the POI to the list of bases that can/will be attacked.

    This;
    • prevents proliferation of bases that aren't actually being used as a base
    • lightens the load on the code/scripts that process base attacks
    • prevents the base attack code from dispatching attacks to bases that the owning player couldn't care less about (which, when it happens... and it does frequently... in a sense frustrates the purpose of the base attack updates made recently)
    • leaves the player the full ability/choice to determine whether to drop a normal/full core or salvage core, and does not restrict their strategic options in any way
    • does not grant users of salvage cores any ability to exploit their use beyond the intended purpose (at least not in any way that comes immediately to mind for me)

I like the idea and premise of this, and so did Eleon obviously since it got added. The one thing I would have added to the list of cans is the ability to be placed on regenerating POI's and allow to remove upto x% of the base (IE: the player could remove all devices and upto 90-95% of the blocks removing the ability to completely delete a regenerating POI completely ). The reset function removes the core if one is found during regen time.
