So today in a totally unrelated part of the internet I discovered Reshade. It's a simple program that lets you put graphical effects on your game, sort of like that whole EnB thing everyone goes mental over on Skyrim I guess. I won't pretend to understand the actual technical details of it but... if you miss the night being dark, check this:

Top is Vanilla, bottom is using that Reshade program to put only three filters on (HDR, HighPassSharpen, Levels). Now I know nothing about fiddling with these things and only used the default settings but it's improved the visuals for me, and you can simply turn it on and off during the game with the press of a single key. Here's the same scene during the day:

Bit more subtle in the screenshot but quite noticeable ingame!

The program is found at reshade.me, and all I did was run it, point it at the Empyrion executable (for me D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Empyrion - Galactic Survival\Empyrion.exe), follow the install then load the game and fiddle to your hearts content.

As I said, for people used to messing around with these things I'm sure this is old news, but for people like me who don't know anything much about it this thing is very easy to use!

I do agree the daytime now in-game is a bit washed, especially at certain angles... textures lose all hope of being defined. Its the new lighting engine they have gone with.

Just needs some tweaking, toning down. Adding a little more HDR than they have.

I'm mixed on the super black nights though..... we kind of all hated that, but then loved it for being spooky... then got annoyed with it after awhile of playing "oh crap, its night time AGAIN... *sigh*". So I really don't know what to say on bringing super dark nights back.
