Hey all, This isn't a commentary on turret ranges but rather at what distance from the Player they become active. We know stuff a certain distance from the player is unloaded, and we know that things like Turrets will not fire if the player isn't close enough. They might be visible to the player, but they'd not be reactive to things in-range. I observed something interesting just now, here's the scenario: I captured a POI. One of the Plasma Turrets (Alien) on this POI still had Ammo remaining, the other did not. So, I recovered the empty turret and placed it down again as a Minigun turret, giving the POI an ammo box and ammo. I planned to leave the remaining Plasma Turret until its ammo clip ran out, then replace it like the other one. While flying towards this Captured POI a little later, I noticed a Drone had wandered close to it. I'd estimate it was well under 100 metres away, so well within range of BOTH Turrets. I was still some distance off - the Drone (a small one) hadn't rendered in yet, but the HUD marker was there as I'd just done a ping. However, only the Plasma turret opened up the Minigun Turret did not. The Aln Plasma Turret is a pretty weak weapon and, playing with Hard (aka bullet sponge) enemies as I do, it took quite a few hits to kill the Drone. So, there was plenty of time for the Minigun Turret to "wake up" and start shooting, even taking into account the common "Turret Delay" issue. Basically, in essence, with an Alien Turret (Plasma) and a Player Turret (Minigun) on the same base, the Alien Turret became active significantly sooner than the Player one as I approached the POI. Note: this is a very small POI, the two turrets are like five blocks apart and both turrets had clear LoS vs. the Drone. Turrets are quirky, sure, but has anyone else noticed weirdness like this based on turret type and player proximity? Player turrets on my own bases often simply will not fire at all, unless I'm pretty close by. This all could be some fluke - like I said, turrets are quirky - but it'd be interesting to hear others observations on this. Scoob.
