Having a turret model that is invisible and unhittable would be really cool. Would allow for "environmental" damage effects. For example a dangerous anomaly that constantly deals damage to nearby ships, a room where you get stunned periodically, dangerous asteroids people have to avoid getting hit by, etc. The turret could just be an invisible version of the 1x1x1 sized sphere turrets as if you put two of those back to back it would give full 360 degree coverage. The existing sphere turrets can work okay, but they still render at about 350 meters, so the illusion is broken if the player is flying too close.
