This is largely centered around PvP as tracking players is pointless in PvE.

In PvP, you can use the proximity log at any time to see where a player came from, what they're flying (SV, CV, Teleport), where they went, and exactly how long it was been since it happened.

For me, that means I can see if someone warped into a PvP sector two minutes ago, so I can follow them and blow them up. This makes it ridiculously easy to hunt players.

I've been thinking long and hard about the state of PvP, and a few things here and there would allow significant improvement and overall more enjoyment.

    My suggestion is below.
Allow us (through config files or gameoptions) to limit or modify the use of proximity log. Such as:

An option to show only entries older than a certain time (just an integer option, so players could set it anywhere from a minute to a whole day or more.) That way it could be set that if someone warped out of a sector, you could set it so that you'd only see the log ten minutes later.

    Or...

An option to limit proximity logs by playfield type. For example, it would only state that a player warped out to a PvE or PvP location, and not show which playfield they went to.

    Or...

A device for bases which allows access to proximity logs only within a certain range. For example, you could see where a player warped to, but only if they warped within, say, 10km of your base. It would have to be limited by range otherwise players would build logging bases far outside of scanner range.

    And finally...

Simply allow us to turn off access to proximity logs entirely. Or make it a player permission option, so admins can use it as needed, but players could not.

I think any one of these options would allow notable improvement to any PvP experience.

    Thanks for bringing this up.

I also very much dislike the Proximity log in its current state in a PVP Environment.

There should be parameters to limit how far back in the past the log lets you look. I have no problem with having bad luck about someone seeing me jumping in a system and leaving within a limited time of amount. For me it is kinda realistic in a way of follwing the trace of a warp signature.

But there should be more options for Servers to limit the log:
    - How far in the past are Jump Events logged
    - Parameters which kind of transitions are logged Player Teleporters, CV/SV Jumps, Entering/Leaving a planet

"A device for bases which allows access to proximity logs only within a certain range. For example, you could see where a player warped to, but only if they warped within, say, 10km of your base. It would have to be limited by range otherwise players would build logging bases far outside of scanner range."

Specific devices is a great idea, however i would rather have it in a different way, i like the idea to have to build a satellite or base with a module on a sun/planet to receive information about jump events. However i understand your problem with building outside scanner range.

Changes in this system would maybe also make PVP not so tedious to players which are not "hardcore" PVP players, and maybe just like to have PVP sometimes, as they have possibilities to hide somewhere and have their peaceful life, without beeing in danger of beeing traced through the universe for all eternity of time.

It would also add some element of surprise, when you actually find something by accident and not just by simply jumping after the proximity log.

At least the Parametrization should be a easy fix for the most urgent problems with this mechanic.

    - Added new parameter “DisableProximityLog: true/false” to the GameOptions.yaml
Setting it to True will disable the Proximity Log button. The Default is False so Server Owners who don't want any changes do not have to do anything

I guess i have to say "Thank you!" - Now lets hope some servers will make use of that switch!
