Been a gamer for decades, but not old school enough to have played the original Elite (became a serious gamer in the early 90s). I did play the recent Elite: Dangerous for a while though and loved it. Have been a fan of space sims since my early teens. Favorite series included: Freespace, Battlecruiser, Independence War, Wing Commander, etc. All of these appealed to different facets of my interests in gaming. Fast-forward many years and I now have to pick and choose games to play very carefully; have a limited amount of time I can spend on gaming, so I don't want to waste it on a game that doesn't ignite that same passion in me. Also, I had been itching to get into building/survival Sci-Fi gaming as of late. After having read the reviews and watched some YouTube videos, decided to take a chance on Empyrion. Had heard of some bad experiences from friends with some other games in this genre, so was a little leery at first. But, boy were my fears unfounded. I'm hooked! I played Alpha 2.x for a few days this week and then Alpha 3 was released. I just can't believe how much Eleon games as been able to accomplish within this single game; between gameplay, mechanics, graphics, etc. It's insane to me. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it with something my wife (an extremely supportive non-gamer) said last night: Wife: So, how's the new game going? Me: It's amazing! See? I built this ship and just left the atmosphere of this planet to go explore others! Wife: Wait, what?! Weren't you trying to stay alive by eating plants and running from dinosaurs to some base you were building, just yesterday? Is this a different game? Me: Nope, same game. Wife: Holy smokes...
