Here are a few things I observed (and opinions) from the really short time I've played the Exp. release.

First, I'm not a fan of the "ride along" escape pod of temperate starter. I kinda like to aim it for where I want my initial camp to be. Probably just a "get used to it" thing, and is purely personal opinion.

Second, I noticed that double-tapping the TAB key while using the drone no longer brings up the mini-map. I'm neutral on that.

Third, Something I DO like is the ammo readout in the lower right corner. For me, it makes it a lot easier to see at a quick glance.

Fourth, the new starting equipment method is gonna take a getting used to.

Finally, while I had always thought the tools should put the surface rocks into your inventory, and love that the survival tool does it now, I gotta ask why the chainsaw DOESN'T do that.

Oh, and I only ran into one type of the bugs, I was a bit surprised by their actions, as I had forgotten about the AI work. What little I saw of it, I think I liked. I will be playing more, and just wanted to throw this up here as a kind of "First Impression" thingy.

Valid points - well thought over.
Chainsaw...not so much - remind yourself that there are people who play with Mass/Volume switched ON. The would not want to pick up 10 Logs at once without knowing it:)
Also, a Chainsaw is a mechanical Tool, not a Beam(-Weapon)...

Okay, I see your point, and agree to it's validity. To be honest, I hadn't considered the affect it would have in that instance. (And the fact that the survival tool was picking up the rocks already spoiled me:D). But, in my defense, I did only ASK why. I wasn't complaining, much. All in all, I do like the update (so far as I've seen.) Can't wait to have more time to get into it more.

  4. That shouldn't matter since you already have a method for dealing with that, connect to a container and the logs go there.

The chainsaw should be an upgrade to the survival tool for gathering, hence it should retain the pickup ability but also be faster. Just my opinion though.

My Opinion stays... based on my experience in the Game, especially in the Start phase before I move around with a Container to connect to...

My method, regardless of which tool I;m using or whether I can connect to a container or use HV harvesters is to go out on a run or two and grab enough logs to hold me for a long-ish time. If that means I need to pick them up after cutting them, so be it. If I can have them go into a container, so be it. I had only wondered if there was a reason for the chainsaw not picking them up, and there is. I'm okay with that.

I see the survival tool more like the multi-tool with "magic" ability that uses a fizzling ray to transfer matter from somewhere into the inventory, while the chainsaw is a simple manual tool using mechanical action on wood (and critters).

Hey, guys? I need a sanity check here. I got myself to grinding a bit so I could get my deforesting HV. Went out to begin wanton deforestation because, well, this ain't MY planet, and I'm not staying here long enough to worry about it, so why not? While doing this, I noticed that some of the little trees were giving plant fiber. I could SWEAR they used to give 1 log. Now, this isn't a complaint, because I was getting logs for biofuel, so it's fine. I just need to know I'm not losing it.....they USED to give a log, right? Right? (also saw some tiny trees that I don't remember seeing, and they give plant fiber as well.) If I'm wrong, and this is how it always has been, please forgive my insanity. That is all, thank you.

"Trees" still give logs, but "big plants" now give fiber. Smallest trees (Elderberry) are just a bit larger than the big plants that yield fiber, so confusion may come from that. In the new Robinson Protocol the player is instructed to get fiber, and I presumed instead of carefully reading instructions, so I ran around a lot searching for fiber plants, while in fact I just had to "mine a big plant" with the survival tool...

Uh, yeah, the Protocol.....Um, I, uh, kinda, sorta, maybe decided to just play around a bit and do the Robinson Protocol stuff later, sooooo, that might be my fault. It doesn't bother me, cause I needed the fibers ANYWAY, just needed someone else to confirm it. Thank you!

We added fiber drops to nearly all small and medium plants that had no other "on destroy" ( with ST, chainsaw or else) drop. Might be that some of the bushes now drop fiber instead of wood logs .. but seems to be more appropriate imho (maybe we can add drop chances for different items, like wood and/or fiber later)

Oh, I think it's great. It's just that I wasn't sure I remembered correctly. :) I think I'll write it off as being overwhelmed by the update or something. (I should probably run through the tutorial today, see the change there.)
