Persistent and non-persistent server options

?

Should there be an option to make servers persistent or non-persistent?

  1. Yes, let server owners choose how they want to run their servers

  2. No, the devs made the servers this way because its their image of how the game should be played

Hello all. After many hours on forums last night and on google trying to figure out how my to make my dedicated server non-persistent (when the server is empty, time stands still. no fuel usage, no planetary rotation, etc), I discovered that I cant.

This is apparently by design, the devs a few updates ago did not like the idea that time just stopped when people didn't play, so they made it that the game continued, even when there was no one in the server. While I can appreciate the logic behind this, it seems like a bit of a disservice to server owners when they just want a relaxing game where they can go on for a few hours, pop off, come back a few (real) days later, and expect to not have all their fuel gone. I set up a server so just me and a couple friends from home could play together in one space without outside people. We're all in grad school and we don't have time to be on our computers playing a game just to check on our fuel stores so our food doesn't spoil

I realize there are workarounds to this problem, "make two bases, one for food production and storage and one as your main base", "turn the server off", "just load up 20 T3 fuel tanks to the brim!". I got it. But this just seems like an ass-backward way of working. Instead what should be an option is just a simple line of code in the .YAML files of the server that says something like, "persistent: #True/False, Default: True".

I dont think I'm asking the world here, this seems like something simple that I'm slightly surprised wasnt released in 1.0. Do you agree with me or do you think this is too niche for the devs to concern themselves with?

Just needs to be a way to disable the "out of playfield" simulation for crop growth, fuel and crafting usage, etc.

It would be nice. However I don't know how easy it would be to actually program in.

Once I get enough resources, I build a space station with the needed devices, and 15 solar panels. As long as high-draw devices are not running, solar is easily enough to run everything. No more spoiling. Make sure the playfield is close enough to the sun for lots of power.
