Hello, I am working on a POI and I have just tested the game mechanics following the release of 1.7 I notice that the behavior of the Spawn plates in a (spatial) POI does not quite correspond anymore. Some NPCs get stuck when the plate is not properly placed. My question is the following : Do I have to place the spawn plates differently, or changes are coming and I don't touch them? ps: The POI is available on a "reforged Eden" server but I still reproduced the problem on the vanilla version
putting a spawn pad upside down has always produced that result, at least for me. With the one on its side, is there any block under where the npc spawns?
I knew that this kind of problem could occur but until now it was occasional if not rare. There it is almost systematic. There is nothing under the spawner ...
I ve run this POI before and after the 1.7 there were not this kind of issue. Like Nautilus said, it was very rare, now it s almost every time (especially the vertical on the side of the walls)
Yes as far as my POI is concerned, this is surely what I will do to ensure that players have the best gaming experience. However, many other POIs may have the same problem. My post is not there so much to find solutions as to report unusual behavior ...
I'm not sure it's a "problem" : it looks like the NPCs up here are spawning "in the air" and they are not "flying NPCs" like drones. If this was in space above *nothing* (space POI) and if it was to behave like you wish it would, then these NPCs would just fall into infinity. Since NPCs would not be "dead" (removed) then the spawner would not replace fallen NPCs. The fact that in the same situation in previous builds the NPCs would not just "stick there" might not be indicative that this was the way things were intended to be. To follow on what @Escarli asked, if there is nothing close under the NPCs for them to be standing on, it may cause the game to have them just stick to their spawn point. If the spawner could simply "drop NPCs" from any height, then the plates could be placed very far above the "landing spot" and players would have no way to destroy it.
Indeed it could be a problem if the Spawner were accessible to the construction to the first player to come. But here it is a POI element. It seems logical that this is placed so that the players can destroy it otherwise there is no interest. The fact of having placed it vertically against a wall was intended to decorate the room and to direct the gaze of the player. Now you tell me that the behavior of the spawners before the 1.7 update was not normal and that their proper functioning suspends the PNJs in a vacuum ... So I am not hoping for a patch. The only reasonable solution I have left is to replace all the spawner plates with invisible spawners, placed "correctly" on the ground (why put a rotation axis there?). Just on the POI I'm working on, I must have 250 plates to check On the other hand, one thing is certain ... Many official POIs will have the same problem because the idea of placing plates in various directions is not mine ...
I wrote " I do not think " I am not making a definitive affirmation : I do not know, and just thinking about it for one minute showed that this behavior could be problematic (allow to fall). There can be other explanations. The other one that popped into my mind when first seeing your posts was that since spawners are usually placed on the ground, and in most cases on the same plane as players will be, it might be difficult for players to shoot the plates (read : hit the collider) from a very narrow angle, so maybe they added some (X) crossed planes on the plates, perpendicular to the floor, so players can more easily hit them from a distance when on the same plane. And downside to this would be that when the plates are placed differently, the NPCs are glued to these colliders because they are the closest ones where they can be put since there are no blocks below inside some predefined radius where they can "stand". Again : pure speculation. At least one rotation is "useful" : the Y (vertical) axis which will determine the direction the NPC will be looking at when spawned. And for the other two axis, POIs could very well have more than 1 gravity generator/ gravity axis, so plates could be placed on walls where NPCs would naturally "stand". As far as "official POIs" are concerned, I think that apart a post lost somewhere in the builders section, there are not a flurry of rules and details on how to build them, and a great deal of these POIs have been made by players. So if you want to place your spawners sideways and risk having the NPCs stuck in mid-air, and your POI makes it into the game, what is there more to say about this... Do as you think is best ?
While reworking the Poi, I notice a much more painful problem which prevents me from placing the spawn plates flat on the ground ... the detection zone !! putting the plate against a wall allows you to work the course of the players in the height ... Moreover the problem does not stop at the plate but also concerns the invisible spawner ... It gets complicated ...
