I run a dedicated PvE server for me and a few buddies. We've been debating whether to keep Regenerative POIs On or turn it Off. We really want to add our own core to wrecked bases and CVs, but can't with Regenerative POIs turned On. Fellow server admins, what do you use? Advice or thoughts? Pros to keeping it On: Players won't ever wipe out enemy activity on a planet, which is fun to farm for resources and to do test battle runs. Resources that don't come from asteroids won't ever run out (not that this is really a problem since we explore and frequently leave our established planets and bases). Cons to keeping it On: Can't turn wrecked bases or CVs into your own Keeping it On discourages exploration. Pros to turning it Off: Can turn wrecked bases or CVs into your own There's a sense of "permanence" with wiping out POIs Cons to turning it Off: POIs are "one and done" and can't be revisited unless we stumble on a procedurally generated clone elsewhere You lose an option for gathering non-ore resources For what it's worth, we have Auto Miner Depletion turned On.
Seems you guys are into cooperative PvE so no regen makes things way more interesting. Who wants to come back to the same map every single week? Competitive PvE is a bit different and people grab resources to build the biggest base and ships for bragging rights. At the moment the autominer with depletion doesn't seem to be worth it on coop PvE. I'm still new to EGS so maybe I'm missing something. https://empyriononline.com/threads/autominer-output-with-autominerdepletion-true.95378/
Regen had its place when play was limited to one system. Now there are thousands of stars with asteroids and the same POIs over and over. Depletion is incentive to explore The only real use for regen now is simulating a faction trying to re-take a system, and it would be better if an actual invasion mechanic was implemented
For my own server, when I opt to run one, I prefer: POI : No wipe Terrain : Wipe every weeks Deposits : Wipe every 2 weeks POI's need to "go away", be they destroyed or dismantled. If they need to be kept intact, they should have Admin cores. Terrain restoration in one part gives a resemblance of a "living" planet, where things like wind, rain, snow, or whatever weather might exist has some effect on the planet itself. Deposits, like terrain, can likewise be seen to be new materials pushed up from deeper within the planet than we can drill, and this also gives a sense of a "living world". Unlike terrain, this process just takes longer. At least, that's my preference. You can do whatever you enjoy most.
