While I've been designing ships, I'm increasingly finding the current elevator blocks quite lacking, creating unnecessary limitations and tedious work. The main issue is that there is only one elevator block type—one with completely open sides. Often what one has to do is find ways to block the necessary sides in order to get airtightness or to prevent people from being able to fall off the side. This creates annoying situations where an entire block position must be sacrificed in order to wall off the elevator. Thus I propose the following solution—create elevator block variants with combinations of these features: - Sides that have integrated transparent window walls in various configurations: T, corner, through-open, one open. - Sides that have integrated opaque walls similar to the above. - Sides with integrated doors - Side with an integrated thin and opaque vent. - Side with an integrated light. - Either a blocked top or blocked bottom (transparent and opaque variants). - Ideally all possible combinations of above. Ex: one side transparent, one door, two sides opaque, top open and bottom opaque closed. I think this would create much more flexibility in designs and reduce boring tedious work when using elevators.
