Hey just wondering if anyone knows if our devs plan on making this a thing? It would add a whole new dynamic to the game, like in PVP, where you could have friends doing repairs etc while the ship was in motion. I'm sure its super hard to figure out or we would already have it, but, it would be a huge change i think? P.S. I am still shocked at what they have done to this game since it came out. The shear amount of cool **** that was added will blow your mind if you were here from the start lol. Keep it up boys!
Yes, this is still planned, as Taelyn said. But this requires to have ALL colliders in the game reworked - which is possibly a task that will require nearly the full teams devtime for a major update. We are researching new ways to handle colliders already (for some time), but given the other, more pressing features (Multi-Solar, Performance Optimization etc) and a few problems that arise from how the game works (which lead to a few dead-ends in colliders changes), means that this will have to wait until we find a viable model how new colliders could work. If this is achieved, walking on moving ships then is basically a "by product" of these changes.
Sounds great. I assume that not only walking on moving ships would be a result of it, also docking everything with everything could be a thing. Then a change in artifficial gravity that it works like planetary gtavity and you can have a full multicrew ship in space that offers all kind of activities and possibilities. :-D
Even if it sounds only to be desperately wished by Multiplayer I sense a Scenario for Singleplayer too: When traveling between Star/Solar-Systems the distances may result in several Minutes up to an Hour(or more) in Hyperspace. So Singleplayer can use the time to produce, repair, do "garden work" and other stuff like this. I.E.: Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our own, is still 40,208,000,000,000 km away. (Or about 268,770 AU.) When we talk about the distances to the stars, we no longer use the AU, or Astronomical Unit; commonly, the light year is used. A light year is the distance light travels in one year - it is equal to 9.461 x 1012 km. Alpha Centauri A & B are roughly 4.35 light years away from us. Proxima Centauri is slightly closer at 4.25 light years.
Right. As i said before, it work wonders even in singleplayer. It is a simple task: you are about to reach a destination you to go to, you know that if you stop accelerating your vessel will go x more meters before stopping automatically. Being able to get up and go back to the door, grab some equipment before opening the door to jump out while the vessel moves is as valuable as getting up to man the SVs on board a CV that slows down. It is only a small thing but makes the gameplay so much more fluid. I am glad will have it in some day, probably. It is a great addition for gameplay, sp and mp.
Well, for other reasons it would make no sense in SP to move around in a ship while IT is moving... as we have no Auto-Pilot(currently).
