I dug out the wrecked ship on the akua moon to put back together, but when i tried to place stuff for the capital ship it said that it was was a base. So does that mean i cant make it a ship again, its just a base?
Its a base. Even though it does have old thrusters and cv only items... it is a base. Its kind of weird yeah. The devs may fix/change that in the future to allow POI as defunct CV so that one COULD dislodge and repair it (maybe... dunno). I'd also hope it comes with lost derelict little SV and HV too on the landscapes/asteroid fields
It was before my time, but my understanding is that originally the wrecked ships were a CV, and could be repaired and flown with little effort - vs. levelling up and building your own CV. However, this was changed by the devs, making all crashed CV's into BA's, to remove what was considered an exploit. It would be quite cool to find wrecked ships that can be repaired, but have most of the ships systems such as engines etc. destroyed. This way the player has to research and build appropriate level tech for the vessel. Basically, any CV wrecks would be just basic Steel blocks with doors, windows etc. fuel tanks, generators, thrusters etc. would need to be built. Still, simply allowing CV/HV/SV wrecks in-game would be all that's needed, players could then create custom .yaml's with the wrecks of their choice added, ranging from basic scrap to almost space-worthy Scoob.
I've seen meteorites fall from the sky, it would be awesome to see a space ship come crashing down from time to time... give us another reason to go exploring.
we've always wanted to see wrecks of our ships. image crossing a mountain ridge and seeing a wrecked Abaddon or Typhon? ching-ching
It would be cool to repair derelict CV's to be space worthy again perhaps later in time they would fix the exploit issue of just popping on a couple thrusters and making it fly immediately. I think more work need to be put in place first. I think you have to dig it out with your drill first cause it is buried part way into the ground. Or the CV could rip apart trying to lift off still buried. Structural integrity should be a issue if it is badly damaged having you to have to repair hull breachs and structural damage . I think then you have to interact with the core to program it to be a CV again instead of be a wrecked BA this tells the structure it is being restored back and is no longer a abandoned derelict husk. Then you can put thrusters and RCS's back on to fly it out. Like take crashed Hyperion you wouldn't just pop on some thrusters and RCS's and attempt to fly it out in the condition it's in. I think you have to dig it out first repair hull breach's and other damage making sure it's not going to fall apart. With the proper tech learned you can then add what is needed to make it fly. I think there needs a core interaction to convert it back to CV.
