I'm sorry to hear that. :( The game needs pretty ships/bases, but there's always people who ruin it for everyone else. :( Not you i mean, but the hate squad griefing you. From memory you've posted some cool things here, weren't you the one working on the bsg design until your files got corrupted? I'm not really into up/downvoting, but i do like browsing pretty ships/bases and favouriting them long enough to have a goosey.

edit: oh yeah, what i'm doing today. Going through all my 'design' save files and making sure they're blueprinted, then deleting said file. I'd recommend everyone else make sure anything they're working on is blueprinted *before* experimental gets pushed to live, else you may lose your progress.

Wise advice. Saving copies of your BPs to a safe place can also save pain.

dont get me wrong its not forever when we are well into 8.0 ill put them all on public but going to keep them friends only for now, besides the helicarrier im working on for a while i only plan to make a starter base, more AEGIS builds will be after the helicarrier as for the bsg design, yes i was a good way in too, but now i backup all my files, that will never happen again.

Not much news to share this evening, just spend a lot of time digging and expanding the Arc Solus moonbase. And @Myrmidon you'll be happy to know I managed to take screens in daylight this time!

Still, not really much to look at from the exterior. Planning on adding hangar doors for an entrance to the planned underground vehicle bay (gotta have a place to stash our toys, after all!) but for now, everything is just digging and tunnels. Diggy diggy hole.

Temporary storage and constructor has been set up, mostly just so we have a place to stash loot and can build stuff on the go (concrete blocks, mainly). Also installed the elevator shaft that'll lead to lower levels and, at the bottom, the proposed hangar. For now though, I started with the personal quarters, because it's a design I've been aching to do since I started this project.

I really love the way orange lighting turns the dark-purple carpet a more reddish burgundy hue.

I like how you put the debris from the tree on the floor next to the potted plants. That is a nice detail that I haven't seen before in any build

Last night @Friendly Timo was in an especially playful mood. First, I saw him twirling in place, and decided to go over and join in--it was kind of like dancing. :D Then he invited @Fractalite to play Hide and Seek in the base. He was found really quickly and the chat went like:

    "Found you"
    "No you didn't"
    "Turn around"
"No, I am not going to"
    LOLs and hahahas

Next, he played on the wall art. It's a tradition, that's partly what these are for.

Then I went to work on the Auxiliary Garden with @Fractalite and soon I was summoned to "come see the art."

This and other motorbike hijinks were overly amusing for quite some time. :p

I can't say for certain, but it's a strong probability possibility that we will launch a secondary creative mode server again when 8.0 is on the public branch. Everyone gets admin status for convenience if we do that.

    Nice job, tho!

Can you take a new screenshot by night? This one is way too bright! You could have easily adjusted the time! :p

Was trying to do some raids on POIs in my scout fighter but was getting frustrated by the first-person glass tint and just closed out the game. I can hardly see my targets in broad daylight (I keep squinting and I'm still very young with healthy eyes); am I the only one that keeps getting frustrated by this? How do all of you manage to fight in SVs, by using third-person? I much prefer first. 20180510073547_1.jpg

Just a quick example of the huge brightness difference. There are much worse cases than this one being pictured. Notice how anything in the wooded area is nearly indistinguishable when in first-person but is clear as day in third.

Anyway, we started a new coop the other night, on hard settings... and the only thing that really seemed hard was the temperature survival- but not logical-hard... freezing at 60F is as cringe-worthy as Judy getting insta-frozen in the water in the LiS reboot... but by day 5 we have suits and a base with greenhouse

Went out exploring and found the radioactive zones- this seed has huge patches in the northern hemisphere. Rads were just tolerable with suit, only overheated once. Good news was that just skimming the area, we came away with 90 cobalt ore, so our first SV will be warp-capable (just hit lvl 7)

Got me thinking, though... in an environment like that, you should be somehow required to have your helmet on and use your O2 for full rad protection...

I agree, the glass for cockpits is too dark. I wonder if it was done for space flight?

A good compromise is adjusting your third person camera to be very close to the ship by zooming in in third person view (alt to switch to freeview, mousewheel to distance to ship) and lowering the camera with page down until your are more or less right on top of your ship.

Good idea, though I would still rather if Eleon fixed this issue directly rather than forcing the players to find a workaround for a simple gameplay mechanic. But I might try this until they hopefully look into it.

I had time to try what you suggested and went all the way; I tried putting the external camera inside the model of the cockpit - with really interesting results! I actually quite prefer this (to an extent, I'll explain below).
    Standard 1st-person cockpit view:
    20180510113736_1.jpg

External 3rd-person view moved inside cockpit model:
    20180510113729_1.jpg
Three reasons why the 3rd-person view is better than the cockpit view:
    1. The world still isn't full brightness, but much more improved over the actual cockpit view. It is now possible to see objects in darker places but still have some slight tint for broad daylight.
    2. I did not take video of this (maybe I will at some point) but the cockpit now visually moves around on the screen when flying, making it feel much more immersive and realistic. The only downside is sometimes it moves too much when making a fast, strong turn. If the devs migrate to a system similar to this then they could reduce the overall amount of cockpit sway but still keep a small level of it for the improved visual effect.
    3. If you look at the top right of the screen you will see my FPS is considerably better when in the "fake" cockpit view. I'm unsure why but it is at least 10 FPS in most cases.
I'd love to see if anyone else has a positive opinion of this method too. Besides the slightly over-exaggerated cockpit movement (I like it for the most part) it seems like all pros.
I took two other pictures first (ignore the FPS on these, I took the pictures too fast together to reflect the improvement in frames) and just now noticed how the lens-flare and some blooming is present in the real cockpit view but gone from the fake one.

That is something for the mid to final buff out. They are barely at the middle of the 'hammering and sanding phase' let alone putting on the primer.

    Totally in agreement though. :)

Aside of the issue with the planet patrol vessel HQ i'm working on, not getting leveled properly, as in, even with actvie checkbox, the sand/floor remains eventhough the base is lowered by 20 blocks...
Yes, its 'quadratic', not even 50 blocks in size. i've seen Xenu bases larger than that, leveled (sub terrain) properly.

Is there any hidden fact i'd need to know, what might be different?
I have another 'POI' of the VERY SAME size, which levels just fine to the sub-terrain -> no sand remains when going down the elevator..
Dont konw... just drives me crazy at the moment... (both 7.6.1 and 8.0.1)...

Anyway, been successfully busy aside of above points...

    My first Alpha-8 CV, may i introduce: -> ERA-C Hesias <-
