History (brief summary) The 'Polaris Megacorp' was founded by a small group of independent miners and traders - not long after the War of Silence had ended. The initial group, formerly known as the "Galactic Exports, Mining and Logistics Consortium" expanded over several centuries until today into the well known 'Polaris Megacorp'. The term "Polaris" is an abbreviation of the seven mining guilds and trading families, which had established cooperations in wartime already. The Short-handle 'Polaris' emerged quite early on and was widely used by other companies and empries making deals with the 'Big Seven', as they were also called back then. Design Philosophy While in the early days the ship designs were numerous (those are still around in some edges of the sectors), after several decades, a more boxy/ compact and industrial-style type of vessels was developed - just by pure practicability. As a proud captain was cited in a historic document: „What is the point in having all type of fluff added to the hull, when i rip off those exposed thruster gondolas while parking into a tight lot?“ As a result, nearly all of the Polaris vessels are now running a merely modular, utmost efficent and straight forward industrial design, which can easily be utilized (or even be refit „in the field“ by Polaris Tenders) for the companies main tasks with the maximum return per time, money and man power invested: mining, industry, production. Said simple: the overall design is utilitaristic and visually defines the goal of having found a common format, which not only allows to run the vessels at minimum cost (what includes time for docking, up to reducing maintainance cost). Of course thes new vessel formats also perfectly fits the Polaris stationary bases docking- and cargo transfer bays. The achievement in that area was so impressing, that, since the last one and a half century, nearly all of the know races and factions are using the standardized Polaris cargo modules and docking systems. Military The Polaris Megacorp did never build their own war ships. They were leasing smaller vessels or hiring mercenaries or troops from the Zirax and other factions as convoy escort. A few years argo, an entirely new section of Polaris Mecacorp has been founded, with the only goal to improve defensive (and, as internal reports indicate, also offensive) capabilities that does not depend on 3rd parties goodwill. Although only a few Corvettes and Frigates were produced, this already turned up a lot of old dust, fueling the distrust of the Zirax towards the company, not being able to control the Polaris Megacorp or even knowing where the ships are produced and who is involved. The Polaris war ships are following the same utilitaristic approach than their other company vessels, although they are showing new and unprecedented design approaches. They are not really boxy, but more streched and angular shaped. For an earthling of the 21st century, they might resemble the way, water-bound frigates and radar-cloaked marine vessels were styled. Design Specialities The rear engine sections are holding the main thrusters, which are placed in single or multiple tilted lines, forming some some sort of an A- type visual style. Which, for some vessels, can be upside down or two „A“ opposing to each other on their individual bases. Investors Note: This main thrust area design seems also to be used for the newer transport and the all new combat vessels! Maintenance Ferry (Conah Class) The Conah Class is one of the oldes ship models in the Polaris Megacorp Transport & Maintenance fleet. It is able to maintain smaller craft, but also some of the newer P016 and 17 series transporters and the corvettes of the new combat vessel lineup. It has a landing pad on the top and the bridge situated at the front area for maximum overview. Although the design is quite outdated or even – as some say – inefficent, the ship has not successor yet. Before the company decided to run an own line of all new combat ships, the Conah Class was designated to be retired. With the new requirements that came with the new ships, the board decided to run a thorough overhauing program for all those ships that are still in service.
Heavy Transporter ( Heka Class ) The Heka Servant freighter model is build around a central engine section, including bridge and control areas, as well as life support and crew quarters - on only a few decks. The main part of these tugs was designed to hold several of the A015 Standard Containers on one or both sides. The bridge sits on an elevated area in the center, in order to have enough overview for any loading and unloading procedure. The vessels cannot land on planets. At least not in one piece. Most of these transporters were refittet with a small landing area on the outside for support logistics and staff transfer. These ships were once – and still are – the backbone of the trade and logistics and made Polaris Megacorp THE only ruling, non-Zirax Empire owned company in the known Andromeda regions. Investors Note: A P30 version, following the new design philosophies, is planned to soon retire the Heka Class to ferry the large A015 containers
Light Transporter ( P016 Series) The P016a Light Transporter was seen the first time only a few years ago and is part of an entirely new design and layout class within the Polaris Megacrop lineup. The P016a model offers a lot less cargo space than any other previous vessel and offers no cargo dock for any external containers. On the other hand, it is better armed and incredibly fast – more like a corvette. Rumors indicate, the ship has some hidden gimmicks or can at least be refitted with weapons and shields even in the field by a Polaris maintainance ferry. The bridge is situated at the front area, where several design elements with hardened armor are protecting the crew from enemy fire. This is possibly the reason, why these transports are used as runabouts and delivery shuttles in the new galactic sectors, which are in the process of being colonized. The new A-type Engine layout is said to be much more efficient and a lot easier to maintain. Investors Note: The P016a can also be used for planet-orbit transfers and landing operations.
Medium Transporter ( P017 Series) Other than its smaller sibling, the P017a is primarily laid out for large scale cargo transport of the A08 Standard Containers. Multiple of those can be attached to the holding clamps under its belly. The P017a is produced in different sizes. The one on the promo shot below is the model P017a-2, the most used variant. The number at the end indicates the amount of containers that can be docked. The P017 series is not laid out for making planetfall on high gravity areas, but are suitable for moons and other low gravitiy environment. Same as the P016 series, the bridge is situated at the front area, where several design elements with hardened armor are protecting the crew from enermy fire. and other environmental dangers. The series is also using the A-Type thruster layout, but in a double-layer. Investor Notes: The upcoming P017 b and c variants are said to possibly have a 2nd array near or following the bridge section and be able to hold 6 to 8 containers, including stronger thrusters.
Megatransport (P20 Series) Extremely large transporter, based on the same modular design than the P17 Series, but is also better armed and outfittet carrying megatons of goods to extremely distant locations. The the base model of the P17 was basically streched on all sides and the amount of cargo clamps was quadrupled for the smallest version P20a, holding up to 8 containers on the underside of the central axis and 8 more on the upside. The P20b version adds additional clamps on the left and right sides as well, making the central cargo pat look like a „spindle“ The P20c version is a variant of the P20b with stronger thrusters and a larger thruster area – suitable for haulting heavier and very heavy goods. Investor Notes: The P20 lineup was announced for the new year. Reports indicate that the first ships of this type will be delivered as scheduled. All information, including the details about shape and technical data will remain confidential until the first charge has been shipped. You can request a brochure at Polaris Megacorps HQ at any time. Factory Ship ( Orsa Class ) These Polaris Factory ships are rarely seen in the Zirax territory the last years and usually work in non-disclosed locations. Therefore no pictures or brochures exist to date. It has been said, all the Orsa Class vessels have been moved to the new outer worlds, the new colonies and even more remote and even unknown places. Other rumours say, the Polaris are concentrating all their production capabilities on the new war ships lineup … in an unknow place outside of the range of the Zirax Empire fleets. The factory ships basically offer a mobile ore smelting and refining base up to the production of components and devices. The design used is a lot more bulky than the P0-x series, but using the same bridge position and A-Type Thruster layout. Depending on the model, either of these ships are specialized for certain ores or producs, like the Orsa-A is primarily used for ore processing, while the C and D are focusing on components and high end products. The different models therefore regularly work in groups of 2 or 4. Investor Notes: Not available. The Orsa Class is considered the "heart of the company" as these ships run the 'mobile' backbone of the Polaris mining and production lines, thus any information is considered "highly classified". Employees working on these ships have additional NDA and contracts with appropriate ... motivations ...to keep this a secret. [ REDACTED ]
Tender (Illmarien Class) The Polaris Tenders are a combination of factory ship, gigatransport and carrier platform. There are only a few of those megaships, but each one is in the size of other factions carriers and beyond, capable of even supporting large Zirax Cruisers, running a full fledge mining operation…or building up a colony on its own! The ship class offers several fully automized ore-to-device production lines, repair and refilling facilities and an enourmous amount of cargo capacity. They can hold a fleet of smaller ships for remote repair, supply and material transport and mining. Because of that, tenders of the Illmarien-Class are often found, leading bigger mining and salvaging operations as mobile command outposts. As these ships are incedibly slow and only have a few turrets for asteroid defense, they usually have a large escort group. Investor Notes The rumors about one of these giants havng been lost as a result of a failed colonization project somewhere near the Zirax Empire border worlds, lead to a sudden drop of the Polaris Megacorps equity price about one year ago. Although the reasons for the loss of the vessel are unknown, there is nothing to worry about. Any investment in the Illmarien Class is still a profitable investment! Brochures are available at your nearby Polaris Megacorp outlet.
Corvette (Kellend Class) The Kellend Class is part of the new Polaris armed vessels lineup. The Model L is often used as an armed transport shuttle for the Polaris C-suit Officials. It will not stand a chance in a serious battle, but is tough enough for clearing an ambush of pirates or keep up with occasional marauder encounters. Although it looks minimalistic on the outside, the interior L-Type is laid out for offering the passengers a lot of convenience and even luxury services. The Standard (S-Type) version is also used for boarding and landing operations, thus even better armed (sacrificing some internal space for more armor layers) As most corvette-type craft, the Kellend can be flown by a crew of 2. The bridge is situated slightly evlevated – like for all of the new armed vessel craft. There are rumours that the ship has a combat or emergency bridge on the lower decks as well. The thruster layout is using a combination of the new A-type with a central, strong thruster array to gain more speed in critical situations.
Frigate (Hoyzen Class) The Hoyzen Class Frigates are also part of the entirely new 'Combat Ship' lineup. The Frigate is basically a larger and better equipped model of the Kellend Corvettes, including a few other modifications and improved weaponry. The bridge is situated in the top-backside, just above the engine secton. The thruster layout is using an ‚opposing double-A‘ approach for increased thrust and a bit of safety redundancy. Investor Notes: Reports indicate, this ship type is currently produced in very high numbers.
Destroyer (Skenya Y Class) The Skenya Y Class Destroyers are the most recent development of the Polaris Megacorp engineering corps - and the largest vessels in the war ship lineup. Slightly larger than the Hoyzen Frigates, it is also wider and a bit more bulky due to additional armor - of course it can deal more damage and thus is the main combat ship of Polaris. Investor Notes: Not a lot is known yet, as the production of this series has just started. You can of course sign your investments already, in order to support the vessels further development! Not sure how I feel about the old Angelico & DaVinci ones being reclassed as Polaris. Their designs don't seem to have much in common with typical "Polaris" style, and the colors really don't work at all.
The colors do not yet 100% fit (needs to be reworked). Other than that >the Polaris Layout is defined by the stretched body of the vessels, together with the A-type thrusters, whereas the transports have a front bridge area and the combat ships have it in the back. So imho both of the vessels fit perfectly. ( special use ships can be different, though) OT: We‘ll have similar approaches for UCH (which is basically pretty much final already) and Zirax.
This is all really great! I hope, when it is at last complete, there will be a centralized listing, a guide book so to speak, where all this can easily be found.
Does this mean we're getting ready for 12.0 underwater life and water physics? The development of this game reminds me a bit of NMS which can be more of an advantage than something to compare. If the conclusion is good for me then this is something that further changes this game in the right direction.
They RESEMBLE ships, boats or whatsoever..but they are not those. So no underwater/water topics for A12, i am afraid.
