Let's see... Today I started and half-finished a large Supply Spacestation POI, Updated the Polaris Oppressor, Updated the Polaris Defense Robots with new weapons and built an entirely new set of Desert-only Polaris Defense Robots. The new, fatter, flatter and weirder Polaris Desert Defense bots. They're like smaller Oppressors.
I picked the retractable type more out of aesthetics than practicality. It's also easier to see when they are inactive when they retract but I added an LCD to the bridge and switched them to the non retractable type. More hull HP that way too. I have enough clearance on the side I could probably widen the design a block on each side and still make it. I usually use the cannon turrets for the range but this CV is so maneuverable I'm reconsidering that notion. Gattlings would probably be better for the firing rate drone stun. I won't be busting any POIs with this thing. I'll have to make a tiny HV driller for that. I'll also need to decide if I want to create a mothership CV or use something from the workshop. I think I'll play more survival first to build my patience back up. Not being able to find the block you're looking for or matching the surfaces for texture/color can be really frustrating some times. Occasionally it takes me like 20 minutes because I'm so agitated. I'll blow up more Zirax to relieve the stress Those are really cool Vermillion. Even if they can't actually walk they look like they were deployed by a CV and expanded.
Correct, it's not a Bug. To prevent Buggy things from happening, the Retractable Turret needs to keep the Block Spaces the Turret pops out into 'reserved' & disallow other Blocks from occupying them. There was a time when this was not the case, & bad things happened cause of it... especially stuff along the lines of bad interactions between CVs & Bases...
That is just sad. Broken either way then. Sorry - I regard this as buggy/flawed and apparently far more so then I realised from what you say, but can easily believe it. By the sounds of it, there are a whole heap of nasty knock on effects either way. So you are right - it is not a bug - it is intentionally broken I am not sure which is worse. They may as well get rid of retractable turrets altogether to prevent other people from wasting hours designing ships around only to find they have completely wasted their time and effort. I like this game, I think it has great potential, but TBH as a developer seeing some of these kinds of things a I have to say I am getting quite disillusioned over this as well. Fast progress usually just means lots of tech debt later and I think they are already in tech debt to their eyeballs.
While making previous post I could hear an alien insect munching my leg as I had left my character in god mode in a survival game to test and tweak some stuff Been posting more of my junk to the workshop. I think everything of any use and complete is up now, but still adding info. Also made a new SV - just a little early game unarmed shuttle / transport for when I find a start too resource constrained to build my usual SV. Something to bridge my way into my little CV. Tier 1, Level 7 unlock. 5k cargo and a couple of cargo containers, locker, detector and O2 station and a drone hatch. Also has 4 empty weapon mounts - 2 at the front, 2 on wing pylons, for eg gatlings on the front and a pair of dumb fire rockets under the wings - enough to take out a basic isolated POI and surrounding troops / drones. Little sealed cabin at the back with a drone hatch and room for upgrades - can add a constructor, tier 2 and ammo controllers and an extender for ammo. I left the constructor off due to it needing cobalt, but you can add that later. Can also carry a modified version of my little early game Rover HV. Just uploaded it to my workshop.
My main beef with them is that you cannot color/texture the sides independently. It's all or nothing.
@Germanicus and @Vermillion Like button doesn't quite cut it really nice both of you for the HV and defence robots.
I can pay the 350 million... but what kind of protection does it have around the hangar? Can I trust that it will protect my SV?
I finally had a chance to spawn your CV in. It needs some work because it's unfinished certainly but it fits through the hangar door even with turrets on the side if only barely It's about a third larger and still has nice shaping. Thruster pods just need a rework for better thruster placement. I'd prefer all the thrusters be medium besides the side. You could probably work those on yours without hot spots like I ended up with.
@bluemax151 ...someone seems to have a identity crisis? ..or was always a female face behind this Helmet?
https://empyriononline.com/threads/micro-cv-building-challenge.46714 Sadly, I have not seen the threads creator, @T431, for a long time. I hope they are alright.
Actually, I wasn't thinking of on the sides. Your pic from above actually does a better job of showing the four locations. If you look in front of the topside thrusters at the rear of the vessel, you should see a 3x3 flat spot on the carbon-substrate. The original draft of this CV had tougher materials, but to get this down to tier 1, going with carbon-substrate was a painful but necessary sacrifice. Needless to say, if you look at the forward clusters of carbon-substrate, there is also 3x3 regions up there to mount turrets there too. Thus the turrets stay within the 5 x 10 cross-section of the CV. I realize that the half blocks still block weapons, or at least they used to, so the middle ridge was designed so at least two turrets once mounted should still have a field of fire to each side, forwards and backwards, even if the ridge prevents all four turrets from shooting into certain fields of fire. @Robot Shark Thank you. I added a link to my CV there.
Germanicus, the other avatar copied over automatically from Steam. It's as old as my Steam account. I just finally set an avatar here. It's the same as a motorcyclist, no? You never know what you will find when the helmet comes off Thanks for the link to that thread Robot Shark. I'll take a look through those builds as well. Sometimes when you have restrictions you end up with some really interesting design work. Quite a few of those builds are more combat oriented than I would have believed possible based on the dimension restrictions. I'll have to look if any can be retrofitted to be CPU compliant and still viable and if they would fit in something like jrandall's MCRN-Draper-MEC (I think he has the largest door on it).
Introducing The Wasp, a fully loaded warp-capable fighter / exploration SV. Available on the workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2015579366 Features: - Warp Drive - Shield Generator - Constructor & Storage - Armor Locker - Oxygen Station and Storage - Wireless Connection - Detector - Retractable Landing Gear Weapons: - 2 Gatling Guns - 2 Homing Rocket Launchers
Lets see if I can get lightning to strike tonight... I am thinking of an Abandoned Communications center... but I am open to suggestions. I could make an Epsilon Fortress V 2.0 for @zztong , an abandoned spaceport, an abandoned prison. Hmmmm... lots of possibilities.
How about replacing those Windows...which nowadays look almost weird...by the heavy, all Glass, windows?
