Working on a similar tool myself. Not Gui based, and less granular but figured I wanted some planets to explore until the procedural galaxy comes along... Planet scripting works pretty well, having an issue with the sector file generation though, (had to manually fix a couple things) here's a link to 60 new planets built in sectors of 12 (with Akua included in each sector for an easy starting point). Omicron is set to planet 1 for a random/harder start- https://www.dropbox.com/s/bn76rd5p0ipjn9j/TauSectors.zip?dl=0
All, I've gotten my sector generator to the point where it seems to be reliable enough to release for testing. FYI - to use it you will need open office, and a 32bit java JRE for open office (OO only supports 32 bit for macros) https://www.dropbox.com/s/xk77v39zhotliea/Sector-Generator.zip?dl=0 The tool will allow you to tweak some values and generate a named sector with up to 12 planets each with a potential moon. Planet type selection is influenced by how close they orbit the star. Closer usually means lava/desert. then temperate and frozen You can tweak # of planets the max gravity up to 3 gs (higher gravity increases chance for moons ) chances for large deposits, chances for many deposits chance for POIs (every POI can appear on any planet) max # of a TYPE of POI - example 6 Xenu temples..etc. max # of drones protecting a POI/ore It will then generate all the playfield folders and files and the sector file. Very fun for playing SP survival and/or for quickly generating server sectors.
Releases a tool in some one else post, kind of a dick move. Also, why did you have to go and make this some weird open office document? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I actually think they will complement each other - his tool is very specific, what I put together builds systems quickly but nowhere near as granular. It's for quickly generating a new sector to play in survival. I'm hoping his will allow you to load in an existing system then tweak what you don't like..... As for Open office, I used this to learn/transfer skills I had building macros in excel into open office and open basic- the files are all text and it looked like a good project to use for learning that. If it has value to other people (either as a way to learn the yaml files or as a SP/survival generator) that's cool, but it really was a chance for me to learn as well as expand my personal empyrion game (while we wait for the procedural universe)...
just saying its kinda disrespectful to announce a release of something in a thread that some one else started.
This is not a binary either/or thing. Its about giving others the ability to mod their game while we wait for the procedural universe IMO. I actually like some of what I've seen from the screenshots above and I will be testing/using his tool to complement mine.
I went ahead and moved this into it's own thread. If you are working on a tool or a script then it deserves its own thread. Thanks.
Tried using your program. I get an error saying that the file cannot be opened because it has been password protected.
