Modded NPC Spawners

    I like building open colony or town-like bases instead of the single structure bases but, I cannot help feel awfully lonely in all that open spaces and empty buildings. What I usually do in such cases is use the item menu to place a few Talon Guardian spawners for a bit of population in my towns. The thing is, they are a tribal race and also much taller than an average human so they do not really fit in with the modern and advanced nature of my towns. This got me thinking: perhaps I can create a modded spawner pad that spawns a more appropriate form of NPC.

    I don’t usually mod Early Access games, I prefer to wait for them to be released before jumping into the modding scene but, since friendly NPCs/NPCs for player bases still seems to be pretty low down on Eleon’s to-do list, something to make up for it in the meantime would be worthwhile.

    What I would like to do is create a new modded spawner pad that spawns NPCs with the same character model as the player (i.e. human NPCs), would it be possible to make a copy of the alien soldiers that you find in most alien POIs (cannot remember the name) and apply the player skin to them? Will it then be possible to add these NPCs to a modded spawner? If not, can you create a copy of the alien soldier, modify it to be friendly to the player (like the Talon Guardians) and spawn them via a modded spawner?

    What is modding in Empyrion like? Would something like this be possible?

    Welcome dragon, good to see you again, your idea is rather cool indeed, hope you can achieve it.

    Empyrion is a reasonably mod friendly game for one with no API yet.
    You can currently mod alot of files inside the game but most of the stuff for now is hard coded and because we have no API yet Im not sure how easy it will be to do what you want there.
    Also Im not a programmer so you probably already have a better idea than me about whats moddable and whats not.

    Game runs on Unity5.4 , if your experienced with Unity probably a big plus for you.

    "Modding" is currently just editing vars in text files. There's no texture replacement or coding yet.

    Very cool idea, I would like to see that as well.
    This could be used to simulate crew members on CV ships too!
    I have a huge ship with crew quarters and officer's quarters but no people LOL
