Yesterday, I chose to start a new survival game. A break from creative. Almost got killed by a giant insect. Managed to survive and get the infection treated, dermal parasite I think it was. Anyways, I found the first wreck I was directed to. Added some wood barriers and used it as shelter with my tent setup right next to a small crack so I could use the tent to sleep at night. Now it is asking me to go to some tower, but there were three deposits near the wreck, so I collected some iron, copper and silicon to spawn my favorite starting HV. I know I have some lower level cheaper HV now with the hover thrusters, but I was already level 5 when I got to the wreck. And, no, the game is not on easy. Since I have my HV now, I was able to use the armor locker to put on my first light armor. Right now I am doing some deforestation and using 3 of the portable constructors to process fuel to run the hover vehicle. The HV is up and running. I just don't want to find myself with plenty of ammo but stranded without fuel to run it.
I've made my accompanying Geiger alien SV today. I give you... The FA-012 Wasp It's a cheap short ranged fighter and surprisingly maneuverable. Very little cargo capacity though. Equipped with 2 gatlings and 3 plasma cannons.
Very nice, though I can't help but wonder if it'd look better with a 3rd engine on the bottom. I do love that "mask" cockpit though!
The cockpit is actually the big orb in the middle. The mask is a decoy. There's just some RCS behind it.
Phase 2: The Great / Main Hall: With Aetherium floor tiles and columns: not sure im completely happy with the black walls... Suggestions for the next room?
...? *Re-examines Post with your Creation while not on my first cup of coffee after a bad couple nights this time... & THIS TIME notices that those are CV Weapons that's strapped on, then Facepalms at self...* Ok, hopefully most imaginative SV i've seen yet, for real this time... Funny ya mention that... I look at it & first thought is 'Armor Shield for something vulnerable.'... I like SV 1st Person View!
Made a break from the medium-large cv and made a smaller mid-game cv, class 6: Spoiler View attachment 50265
Made my first CV "shell". Surprised these are not more common in the workshop. Especially with the amount of salvagable CVs, which provide pretty much everything you need to make a CV work, except a basic design/shell, which for many people is the hard part. If you don't want to spawn in fully-made designs (because that might detract from the survival feel), I feel "Shells" are a good middleway.. something where you put in what you want, do the interior, textures and colors you want while in survival game mode, without having to come up with a design. I know you can repair and use the ones in space, but I think it would feel more like your own creation, if you did most of the work by yourself.
I started this SV today, after making the cockpit module and the start of the inner ring, I decided I didn't like it. But since the shape was there, I kept going with an alternative design resembling the Xi'an Khartu-Al from Star Citizen. This is your fault, T431. I was making a first-person capable ship for you. So... yeah. This is the FA-013 Cobra (Khartu-Al) Unfortunately, due to stupidly shaped ramps preventing people from getting in when retracted, getting into and out of it requires you to remove the bottom of the ramp used to access the rear room.
I absolutely love this! It's so sleek and elegant to look at. Vertical ships are far too uncommon if you ask me.
Umm... not quite... but I am a big fan of that Legacy Cockpit that has some Floor Windowing for easier front ground visibility... (Despite its odd shaping being quite a trick to Build around.)
I'd like to use that cockpit well sometime, but it seems to be near impossible. Though whenever it's possible I just make my own cockpits using window blocks, it always just fits into the design better, gives a better view if done right and is more protected.
Today I did some more testing with the T4-Vulture. I added a VR Cockpit, since the giant glass canopy isn't very armored. This is an after and before shot of me testing the armor against an orbital patrol vessel. The fact it's still functioning and warp capable after such a beating is quite amazing, and I'm very pleased with these results.
Wow! The after-and-before pic is great! I wonder if there's a challenge or a thread in it. "I fought the XXXXX and this is what my ship looked like afterward."
Changed the main hall up a bit - added some balconies and increased the roof height a bit: Still might change the white marble... Work has started on the rear stairs - through the door at the end of the hall:
Wow, that you took on an orbital patrol vessel in an SV is amazing. I am with Bin, those before and after are really interesting.
