Well I did take @Pyston 's ship for a test drive. It spins on a dime as they say. I can't wait to take it into a real game instead of just my test game. Mate you sure packed that thing tight! Just one complaint. I couldn't find the cup holder in the cockpit.
Made some progress, have the hangar and service area kind of roughed in and am playing around with ideas for the bridge. I haven't come up with anything I really like for it yet though... I'd like to have a flying bridge of some kind but everything I've come up with looks extremely dorky I think that my choice of size/proportions on this ship isn't helping - I didn't want to make it a behemoth, but given the size of the pre-existing engine nacelles I decided to use it's just going to look like a brick pretty much whatever I do. I think those engines would probably have been better suited for something like a class 12 dreadnought than the class 5-ish ship I'm trying to build.
I know that I said I was not going to re-texture it, but I started on it. I am trying to keep it close to the original, but I have been taking some liberties with it. The original it on the left, the rebuild is on the right. I also noticed something else about the original... The turrets and gravity are turned off in the blueprint. No wonder it did not shoot back when I initially raided it.
That was intentional. Yes, they have to watch over the Traffic there but they also knew about their Paper-Armor... so the played "Dead-Fish" in the Ocean of Space
Gone into diorama mode today. To replace the old single tower designs I was using before which were massive lagfactories due to the excess windows. For the purpose of making epic background screenshots. Not even half done with this stretch. Missing half of the left side and behind both rows are gonna be another set of taller buildings so each stretch can be placed end to end and side by side (flipped).
I really like the way you did the vent-like textures in the upper left hand part of the screenshot that are verticale leading via the lit part of the texture to the same texture but on sloped blocks to the right. The angle of the block changes but the lit part keeps a framed line. Very neat. You always make such smart designs Jmtc. Very cool stuff.
@Fractalite You are too kind - I'm definitely not feeling very smart on this build I took a break from building last night to have a look at the blueprint stats in-progress, and my head about exploded. Just sitting there as a hull with engines and basic CV devices (warp drive, generator, fuel tanks, O2 tanks, gravity generator, rcs, a couple of doors, etc) the CPU requirement was already at 9800/7500. While I know that CPU limitations are not in the game yet and will definitely be balanced a fair bit once they are, this had me second-guessing this particular build as well as the game itself. The CPU drain is chiefly caused by four storage arrays of about 200KSU each, so 800KSU in total. This is about four times the storage capacity of my class 1 starter CV. The cargo containers alone on this build account for about 4500-5000 CPU. OK, I can decrease the storage capacity by about half or three quarters and probably get the ship more or less 'legal' as far as what we currently think 'legal' may look like, given the core CPU limit in the stats page. But that makes me think: What is the point of building a heavy-lift design in the first place? We have these L and XL-sized engines capable of lifting heavy mass but we potentially don't get a whole lot of storage volume to go with it, and it's a mystery as to how that is going to be approached and balanced in the future. Am I building an albatross?
Yeah, it is those darn cargo areas. Try eliminating two and, in turn, use just two; one as a regular cargo controller and the other as ammo(but same size.) Then mark off an area to add more once the developers decide to flesh out the CPU approach/system. ... @Siege Inc. I finished, what is now, the Abandoned Bunker: Spoiler: Don't clicky clicky if you want to see this in game for the first time Will leave it there, cannot give away all the goodies. I will say, it is a lootpocalyse/lootstravanganza but is also very challenging as all the abandoned stuff should be. @Germanicus ended up not using your building because it is a bit too small. Still, I love your fearless use of the camo texture: and this hallway is gorgeous:
Fantastic stuff @Fractalite. This is looking great! It's in no small part due to your work on POIs that I have played this game as much as I have. Thanks as always for the work you continue to put into this. Yep, I kind of figured that would be the prudent thing to do. In the meantime though, I'm kind of scratching my head and wondering why I shouldn't shelve this build again altogether... If a Class 5 Heavy-Lifter isn't able to do anything that my existing Class 1 and 2 CVs already do (and can do for a lot cheaper), why bother? I mean, sure building is fun, and using the completed ship is fun too, but now I'm having a hard time figuring out a use case for the thing.
Can always turn it into a tourist hot spot, guided tours, Rent out the dining areas for events. Even put in a slid area for the kids. So many things you could do with it. Heck maybe @ravien_ff could put it in one of the many resorts he has in Eden
I finished texturing the upgraded Cluster Drone base, moved a few things around, and added a few surprises. The blueprint has been uploaded to the Base thread. I hope I configured the spawners correctly. If you try it out, mind the signs.
Awesome! I'll take a look! By the way, "Clusterdrone" is a placeholder name for space POIs that have no spawn name set. Feel free to give it a name!
Your stuff is amazing. My cv looks like a castle. However I had my most frustrating day in game yesterday's EVER. Took down the Abandoned Mine and thought I was amazing. Found 2 XL cv Thrusters and Epic heavy armour. YAY. On the way out I was dying of hunger and figured it would be fine. Die and then go get bag. So I died and then the server reset and my bag disappeared
so after playing on a new server in survival it seems i need to build smarter, most of my Aegis builds are ether out of date or to expensive for this server to grind for, so time for me to make cheap designs in resource costs.
More work on the fake city stretch today. It's probably good enough to get by for most purposes. Finished the front buildings for the most part and i'm now half way through the back rows. I think the buildings are starting to get worse as enthusiasm wanes...
