@Fractalite : you know, that thing they call a "roof" ? ---------------------------- Tried starting a coop game, actual exp. branch and public release... nothing works : we can't see each other's computer/ server (LAN Coop)... Tested other games and no problem with network. Gave up.
so me and a friend made a SV design i just fell in love with tho im at a loss at coloring it tried this scheme but meh i need something that "flows" good
My Parking Place and also where I intend to assemble a CV.. (The "thing" on the left is my Support CV 1.0 with a 320k CC and a AC on top)
A few impressions from my search for ship wrecks... the suitable ones at the Arid Starter I held my breath for a second when re-entering the orbit
<really beautiful views there as well G> I've had a better than average start this game; early on found a new-to-me POI, some kind of abandoned base (but infested, heh) that's a dark dark grey w a central courtyard w a shutter gate that the player can open, quite large and has a very well done maze a couple floors underground (a hearty "Well Done!" to the designer). Anyway, lots of goodies there and lucked into a suit of Heavy. Last night finally made it out to the Snow Planet for some much needed Neo ore. Learned a couple things by trying different things. I used the small CV from my earlier picture (far left w both a Warp & Shield), and rather than using a scout SV to first locate deposits I used the CV in atmo to scout. With Shield running and a single Med thruster providing lift it had ~14 min flight time (CV only has two small f-tanks)(grounded, thrusters-idle w shield On has 2 hrs runtime). So started my normal equatorial scout chasing the Sun and found a couple Sath deposits then a Neo one (num of deps set to Plenty btw). Mined that up, and thanks to the low gravity, 0.51g, didn't need to enable the other lift thruster. Then encountered a couple Medium Minigun Drones. My Cannons&Miniguns started in but the two more powerful top turrets weren't shooting.. yeah, I had swapped a couple salvaged CV Laser Turrets for the two top Miniguns, which I mounted on the ships sides. doh! CV Lasers no-shooty-on-plannys With the shield it wasn't a problem, just took a while; longer than I would have thought, but the job got done. Nearby the fight I found a crashed CV, the one that's mostly brown/light-brown w quite a few of thrusters & RCSs. So, even though it was supposed to be a mining trip, and I'd managed to keep myself from doing any space salvaging over the starter world, I caved and salvaged it. Since I'm trying not to 'abuse' the Factory, I didn't just toss everything in there, so had to haul the ~500 tons. Ship had enough space (140,000SU) and lift, but between all the salvage and the ore I had to enable the second lift thruster, so flight time down to ~11 mins. Finished the circumnavigation without finding another Neo deposit. Finally found a second one just as I was about to give up. Thankfully I was pretty tired by then so on the way home I didn't go to a 3rd system to gather Zas/Ere. With a haul like I had on-board already it would have been a foolish risk. Lessons learned; 1) Know your Turrets. For my intended use mounting space-only weapons was a bad choice. -- further, for a general purpose CV this small, anything in space that Cannon/Miniguns can't handle should be fled from. 2) While the very short atmo flight time was initially concerning, it actually didn't turn out to be a problem. Compared to the additional risk more fuel tanks would add (everything is -very- tightly packed in this ship so a full on chain explosion is already highly likely), I personally don't think it's worth it. -- but this was a special case; my plan was to _only_ find and mine 3,000 Neo ore then leave (and deposits set to Plenty=easier to find). -- if I'd been planning to resettle there, likely meaning more scouting, an SV would make a lot more sense. 3) for my playstyle this very cheap CV will easily see me through the 'Get all Ores' stage. -I think-. we'll see how the Zas/Ere mining goes -- I do need to re-do my 'build-as-you-go' BP of it (no Thrust/Warp/Shield/P-tank) as it currently includes the 1x3x1 Genie, and the hull could work with Sm Thrusters and a couple Sm genies, until they could be upgraded.
While putting the finishing touches on the update for my scenario I decided to make a quick desert variation of starter moon: It's nothing special (yet) and still WIP. It has very few biomes and similar resources and POIs as the default starter moons to maintain game balance. It has an interesting pattern on its poles in the orbit view, probably due to a texture bug, but it looks kind of cool:
It's a trick! That's a fully operational Death Star hidden inside that Moon! Neat look & shots @ravien_ff , and it would be a most welcome change from the oh so dark and dark and dark default moon, heh
Today, I almost finished my new space POI. It's nice to be doing something that's not Rados or Snow for once. The holographic screens are currently blank. But they'll eventually be covered in stuff. I also did a tiny snow + rados POI that took like 15 mins. Rados Convoy. And finally, with nothing better to do I also rebuilt one of my SVs: The FA-010 Vertigo as the FA-038 Horizon. It's not painted yet, so no screenies.
@Vermillion the Snow POI's are amazing dude. Those are pushing the whole game forward. Are you continuing on to other planets to revamp their POIs? Are you with Eleon?
I made a SV... Funny how it looks like a console, hmm ? Just noodling around with sensors... I thought of a way to use a docked SV (basic: core - docking pad - gen - fuel) and do some "wiring" around an extension of my space tests base... Not the best setup actually, as the sensors could be better placed over each hangar entrance to detect when the player goes in or out in a ship. I should be able to cover a 50 BA/CV blocks distance with such a system.
Does the sensor detect whether the ship is there or just whether you've gone in or out? In which case, you could probably do away with the sensor entirely and set the door to output a signal each time it's opened. Though since shutter doors don't open automatically for vehicles like Hangar Doors do, you'd probably still need a sensor. imo, the easiest method would be a discreet toggle sensor above the door or under the floor that controls both the door and the sign with a narrow range on both sides of the door.
@Vermillion : sensors don't detect the ships, unfortunately (SV sensors). The problem is that signals don't travel from one structure to another, so signals sent by BA/CV doors can't be received by another entity. I wish I was wrong... Now I'm thinking of using a HV "console" for a planetary base, so I can put 3x3 HV blocks in a 1 BA block space (tight fit for 4x4) and maybe put some HV turrets in 1 BA-block corridors (for remote fun...)... Or small cargo boxes with shutters in walls...
Ah... you're using an SV attached to the base just to make a console? If you're using the Experimental version, the LCD Projector could've done that on a base without the SV. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until 10.5 hits public.
The LCD projector is just another flavor of the LCD panel and takes a whole block for 1 message. Using a SV allows me to use small blocks, so I can display 16 SV lcd panels in the space of 1 BA/CV block. I could also put switches on the same console without requiring another big block. In the picture I posted on the previous page you can see 5 SV lcd panels in front of the player, which would normally take larger than the room with regular BA/CV panels. I also only made a primitive and obvious "connector" between the sensors and the "console" but I could have gone fancy and used some small tubes. I will make one in my planetary base with connectors going all over the place with a few tricks...
Now you are going insane with the space POI! Simply love it And cool half burried vehicles. ------- 3 side projects, while trying to finish the POI top: sister ship to the Cortess. left: my first serious take on a Station right: the beginning of an corvette to destroyer sized dedicated attack CV Oh, for now no more screens from the POI till i finish it.
