    Hi there dear survivalists.

I'm coming here with a question regarding the possible (?) modification of mining speeds on my own dedicated server (I have full control as it is running on an old PC I use). Simply put, I want to speed up the mining process (especially when it comes to meteorites!); it's just no challenge anymore and is literally a grind.

Since one of the earlier alphas we have that config.ecf file which I never used before. Soo... I copied the config_example.ecf and renamed it to config.ecf, then went into there and searched for everything that has 'drill' in its name, boosting it's radius/range/damage a bit and changing the ROF to 0.1 (I read somewhere that lower numbers = faster).
Of course I then restarted the server and tested the changes on a fresh meteorite, but sadly it doesn't seem to mine any faster. At least it didn't feel like it. I've also tried to use the DebugDrill (the one that you can get from the item menu), but that didn't help either.

I've used different search engines to skim through the net and took a look at the Steam & official Empyrion forums but could not find anything specific on that topic. Sorry if I should've missed something.

My question is: is there any way to beef up the drills (I would be ok with only boosting the T2 drills, too), so that mining could be a bit less of a chore? Or - to tackle the problem from another perspective - to increase the yield every "mining step" would reward (I'm theorising here; bigger asteroids which will give more ore with each 'succesful mining tick')?
If that is possible, how would I do that?

Thanks & have a nice day!

Once upon a time, I used to alter the T2 drill for my own purposes. Then, Eleon went and made their own hard-coded changes, which then prevented me from altering the stats anymore. I had it tweaked to a mining rate that was neither too much or too little. I also changed the flattening and fill rate as well. But, as I mentioned before, those stats are hard-coded now, which is too bad.

You can't lower the rof below 0.5 but you can change the other things.
Meteorites however are always super slow to mine.

iirc, meteorites are classed as entities. You'd probably need to add a damage modifier for head|body to increase the damage vs them, but I haven't tested it.

Also, do NOT use a full config.ecf file. Any changes to the game in future will not be incorporated into your game. Your Config.ecf should be completely blank except for the version number and the single entries you want to change and nothing else.

Thank you all. Ok I see, the options are rather limited currently. Guess I'll just remove the config.ecf file again, as there's nothing else I wanted to change right now. Might just try to give the modifiers a boost as Vermillion hinted before doing so.

@IndigoWyrd: Hehe I just stick to the "mining mode" in my HV and have it mining the meteorites while I'm watching a video on YouTube.

    Thanks again @ all!
