Is there any reason you're not using your drone for drilling? That way you can drill straight down to the ore (and just close the drone when done instead of trying to get out of a tunnel).

No reason. I'm not looking for a work-around, just pointing out that there's an odd issue with the mechanical drill not drilling where it's aimed when the player is pointing down slightly.

This may well be a vanilla issue - even though the mechanic drill is no longer present - as the Laser Drill isn't always that accurate either, with the Marker not being placed where material is being removed.

Consider this : the player is roughly 1.5 meters tall:

    NewGame_1_2020-11-14_22-05-12.png

... and the drills radius (a "cylinder") range from 1.25 to 3 meters. Lets make it a 1.5 meters radius here :

    NewGame_1_2020-11-14_22-04-10.png

The ugly drawing shows the cylinder (radius x 2 = 3 meters) of the "drill effect", and we can see the ground has been removed from where the player is standing. Since the ground is made of smoothed 1-meter cubic voxels, it doesn't leave much room to make a smooth transition from where the player drills and the untouched ground. A radius of 0.5 meters ( I tested it) still makes a pretty big hole, and does not affect ground under the player :

That makes sense, thanks. However, in my experience, at the correct downward angle - about 20-25 degrees - the drill is removing far more material from underneath me than it is in front of me. So, while facing said 20-25 degree down it just digs a hole directly beneath me and I drop down.

I was sorta just playing around when I did this, I saw what was happening so just kept facing at the same angle and holding the mouse button. It did nothing but drill directly down.

This just appears to affect the Mechanical Drill. Sure, Mechanic Drill has a shorter range, but it does still have range ahead of the drill head. It just seems that the effected area starts too close to the player, exaggerating the effect.

Basically, I angled the Drill to make a nice, gentle 20-25 degree slope downwards - as I've done many times with the Laser Drill in Vanilla and Project Eden games. I do the same with the Mechanical Drill in Reforged Eden, and it removed terrain from directly below me.

I can work around it of course, not a problem, just thought it odd where the drill was removing matieral from - which wasn't where I was aiming at all. If it removed material from below and infront of me, that would be exactly what your illustration shows, however it just removed material from below me making a very tight vertical shaft.

The Reforged Hand Drills operate using a different style of drilling.
The vanilla one is horrible in that it grinds against the ground for 3-5 seconds doing nothing, then it takes a spherical bite out of the terrain. This is also flattened at the bottom of the sphere so the player can walk on flat ground.
The Reforged Drill constantly deforms the terrain in a circle where it's pointed, instead of periodically taking spherical chunks. With the slower drill speeds this is necessary to show players that drilling is in fact working and they're not just grinding at nothing for a little bit of work. It also looks better and has a more reliable resource yield.

I did indeed notice those changes and like them. I recal the devs saying the "larger bites, less frequently" helped with network bandwidth or something like that. Still, I prefer what you've done. However, the weirdness with which bit of terrain the Mechanical Drill is removing for me still remains. Perhaps I'm in the minority liking to drill myself rather than using the Drone all the time, but that's how it is lol.

As an aside, from the very early days I've tried to resist using the Drone for everything, as I really thought it'd be taken away - or hidden behind research and upgrades - before too long... Still hasn't happened.

The player drone is part of the game, it can't be locked.
It can, in theory, be disabled though.

Those NPCs don't have a dialogue yet. They will be linked to both the Zirax and Pirate missions.

I ran into an odd "glitch" last night...I entered a planets atmosphere looking for ore, found a deposit, launched my SV miner. When I would dig a hole down to the ore I would suddenly pop back up into the sky. No visible movement, just immediate teleportation. I was eventually able to mine out the node, but this teleporting happened a few times. The next node I hit I just gave up and mined what little I needed using the hand laser drill.

After updating Reforged Eden, there was a problem on my server with completing the quest. You cannot skip the quest stage and errors are pouring in the console.
Any ideas how to fix this?

As far as i know this place (it is the vanilla teleporter, right?) is not right. (i think it does not even exist on my starter planet, but did not check)
the quests were changed with the last update and this one should send you to the talon village, i think.

Did you start a new game? I did and everything worked just fine.

Well, you actually need to DO the quest. I can tell that you've completely ignored the entire thing because you're talking to the teleport station's console which isn't part of the quest or any quest at all. The only reason you're getting an error is because you've tried to talk to the console over and over and over again.

I did run into an issue where I found the initial antenna I was supposed to plug into, but couldnt find where to actually click. I think I saw someone on youtube do it, so its quite possible I just missed the box or whatever I needed to hover over...or I destroyed it accidentally.

Completed four chapters of the main solo quest together. What can I say - a truly titanic work has been done. To the author and developer of the current version, I bow down to you - great work. Excellent dialogues, captivating plot, sometimes thriller and adrenaline-filled action :) Keep it up!

P.S. from technical problems - there were moments when, for example, there were not enough enemies for two (the quest was done at the same time) and it was necessary to finish shooting the same zyrax soldiers somewhere else. At the same time, in the current version of the game, it was this stage of the quest that could not be manually skipped - the tick was not set with the mouse. The second replaceable failure - when we flew into the space sector, the marker on the Kenex station was not set, but the restart of the client helped (it seems that the game does not know how to put a marker on the adjacent playfield, which you still need to get into). The third drawback is the flight between Comm arrays, when the distance between the current and the next target is more than 20 km, the marker for the next target is not immediately set or is not visible - as soon as you fly closer, it appears.

I believe I saw it the other Day in a @spanj RE Play-through - he stepped close to the Antenna and looked down to a point UNDER the Antenna when the Quest continued.

Did anyone manage to do the "Fuel delivery" mission from Polaris? I flew around a decent number of D \ M class stars and did not find any traces of the desired NPC. The required asteroid fields are usually packed with anything other than Polaris ships / stations, or even empty.
