For more information see here Bug Report Template

    Build:1.8.2
    Mode:Survival

    SERVER NAME:single player
    SEED-ID642493

    Reproducibility:everywhere
    Severity:game breaking

    Type:graphics and gameplay

Summary: Each Temperate planet is covered with ugly white mist/fog

Description: Outside of the starting system, each temperate planet I visit is covered in ugly white mist/fog above the ground, so not a single water surface is visible and all of the Pois are drenched in white mist too. This is standard for Barren planets, but Temperate ones? It renders the graphical enhancements that made me enthusiastic about 1.8 pretty useless - you simply cannot see them. I hope this is a bug, otherwise it means goodbye EGS again for me.

    Steps to Reproduce:
    1) Play the game

    Open console and execute :

    weather off

There you have it fog is gone.

Next time show us some photos of what you describe cause I loaded the game and I did not see any fog....yet.

thanks for trying to help, but its not related to weather - weather off was the first I tried, to no avail. I'm talking about mist above the ground like the one on Barren planets which is not affected by the weather system too.

    Could it be the seed?

    Yes, bad seed luck. :(

    1:5 chance for fog.
    1:4 for misty waters.

... Temperate is one of the playfields with most variations possible... - But some of them do not look very good.

@Needleship: thanks for the info - guess I'll have to play config again or wait for an updated Project/Reforged Eden or Escape from Purgatory
@Eleon: where is the logic in ruining your graphical improvements with these ugly effects? You should really rework your fog/mist or make them an option or even better: get rid of them completely, they take more from the game than they add to it.

Edit: any recommendations for beautiful seeds are welcome :)

The 'old' Temperates were even worse with fog chance... :D

    ---
For now you could adjust the playfield itself:

    - ((Steam))\ ((EGS)) \Content\Playfields\Temperate\playfield_dynamic.yaml
    Line 31 & 32:

    AtmosphereFogRange: [0.40, 0.52] # 1:5 chance for foggy world << set this to [0,0]
    GroundFogProb: 0.25 # 0.4 # 1:4 chance for foggy water << Set this to 0

(Careful to keep the same spacing. Use a text editor, like e.g. Notepad++.)

This will directly affect your current savegame.
Already generated worlds will be left untouched, but newly visited Temperates are fog-free.
This change will last until the worlds will get updated, or you 'check for game file integrity' with Steam library.

Wow, thanks alot for the detailed help @Needleship, much appreciated! Firing up Notepad++...

    Edit - found this line:
    GroundFogHeightRange: [40, 40] #[-10, 5] # Fitted to playfield height variance
-> This may be the reason why the mist looks the same on every Temperate Planet I visited.

    Edit 2:
Setting both lines to 0 seems to activate some hard coded default values. But a copy from \TemperateStarter\playfield_dynamic.yaml seems to do the trick, I'm on my first Temperate planet without GroundFog :

    AtmosphereFogRange: [0.3, 0.4]
    GroundFogProb: 0

    Thanks again for your help!

Can you share with us the seed you set before starting the game with the fog on every temperate planet? Also how many temperate planets did you visit with fog everywhere?

The seed is in my first post: 642493. But it didn't really matter, I tried another one with the same (foggy) result. I don't think it was the seed but the GroundFogProb. After setting it to 0 (see Edit 2 above) its all good now. Current seed is 729926 which generates a very nice Omicron starter btw.
