Sorry for all the OT Peter, I didn't realize it would be so hard to get traction on something this basic- I should have dropped it.
I could very easily see a reason for wheeled or even tracked vehicles (aside from the motorcycle, which is wheeled): Unlike a hover-vehicle, which, when heavily-loaded, cannot often climb an incline, a wheeled or even tracked vehicle could. A laden hover tends to run out of momentum and will slide back down an incline. A wheeled or tracked vehicle on the other hand, would not, though if laden-enough, might not actually be able to progress any further up an incline, it would not slide back down. Of course, a tracked or wheeled vehicle would also not be able to cross water - it would have to traverse under water - so programming for this would be quite an undertaking. If you try to take a motorcycle into deep-enough water, you detach from it. Doing this with a construct vehicle though, would be both impractical and frustrating, and our sub-aquatic realms are generally less-than-interesting anyways. So not opposed to the idea, just not something that should be a priority at this time.
Yeah, always pulling my bike outta' Davy jones's locker, getting my car out would be a different thing altogether, I can just see it now, ponds full of abandoned vehicles and the Natives complaining "Outsiders, nothing but trouble"
You're off-topic : ... and you call "strawman" on what exactly ? You are trying to dismiss the fact Eleon stated they will not do wheels because I have some irregular usage of quotes, but you can read their statement in the link I provided, which is what I mentioned. So this - your intrusion on this topic - is the strawman : Eleon statement is there to be seen, but instead of acknowledging this you try to divert focus on language issues. Let the French guy here tell you frankly : be nice to strangers, or buzz off. This is an international language forum, and you can keep your chauvinism off here.
re: chauvinism I meant no offense in my comment, it was a reference to a well-established and highly codified approach to language that is unique to French speaking countries. I agree that having formal rules around language matters. re: strawman To be clear, your "quote" was misleading in both tone and content- the original can easily be read as being a reasonable give-it-a-rest response to the person it was directed to as opposed to an official declaration of no wheels now or ever being made to the entire forum. Your own explanation of what a wheeled vehicle would be is based on the HV model the dev said they were focused on; wheels in rotation are just an animation. re: off-topic I acknowledged and apologized for going off topic over a week ago and then I shut up. If you want to discuss any of this further please consider sending a PM or starting a thread for it.
Language is only one of the tools of communication, and the issue was very simple : you asked for a source, I provided it, then you acted like the information provided was secondary to some unrelated "bad quote usage" issue. Communication has rules too, and you broke the relevancy rule here. You made quite a fuss for a simple question of quotes, but here you completely re-interpret a very clear and simple answer given by a representative of the developers to change its meaning. Double standards : you accuse me of misleading while I provide the source, but you interpret6 the information to give it another meaning than what appears at face value. You could have sent me a PM about this "bad quotes" thing in the first place. But this is nothing personal, it's about wheels and an answer provided recently by the devs, so it's quite on-topic. If you wish to disgress further from the topic feel free to PM me.
In my view it was very inappropriate to present your over-the-top with caps lock yelling paraphrase as a direct quote. If you believe your paraphrase was an accurate representation of the content and tone of the original it's obvious we'll never see eye to eye.
lol... where did I use caps lock now? If you propose that Eleon's statement in the link provided means "yes to wheels" it is simply bad faith on your part. If @Taelyn meant something different than what he stated then we can simply ask him about it, so you can stop putting words in his mouth.
Wheels will not happen no. We have a hover concept. Wheels wont fit in the game, neither work well on voxel. Only thing on wheels currently is the moterbike and that thing will go when we get to it. Replaced by a Hover Bike
Aw. I mean, I love the concept of a hoverbike, but the trusty old motorcycle is both classic and fun. While I miss the days of the weird glitch that could put a motorcycle into orbit, and am glad to see that has since been fixed, I will miss it for sure.
Well, that's a bit of a blow. I use the bike as soon as I get one because I can't get along with hovercraft... too floaty for me.
