So, after a few days since the Alpha release, what do you pleople prefer as material to build your bases? Concrete or Steel? This is, for both Outposts and Main Bases of course. My take so far, is that Steel (Iron) is faster to obtain, but Concrete seems to endure better against drones so far. As a side note, I was in the understanding that to "obtain" concrete you required wood somehow, not only Cement and Water. Was this an oversight? Anyway, I have to say this has been an amazing update, both in SP as in MP, even with the bugs. Congrats Eleon!
regarding obtaining concrete there's no need for wood. stones are made into concrete, water is applied to make concrete blocks. I perserve steel for ships and use concrete to build bases. as I see it as a "free" usable bi-product
I do recall on some Eleon pre Alpha development posts that concrete will require Wood, Wood Planks and Cement in the mix to obtain concrete, but I might be wrong. Now, seriously, have you tried to use concrete for a space ship? Edit: As an additional note, I have seen a ship made of concrete (or was it only stone?) Not those huge warfs or artificial docs that are hollow and the engineers float them, but a real ship.
I'm currently working on a new Modern Home with a different design. Its going to use the same blocks but with a different layout.. I also ended up editing this House after we got that Texture tool. I got rid of all the blue sides and made the whole block that dark red wood...
I finished reworking Orbital Outpost Beta-1 last night. It's a little space station that serves as a depot and workshop for building SVs and CVs. It's not large, but I like cozy bases http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=648311000
Owing to the memory leak problem with pre-Alpha blocks, I went ahead and updated my "Simple Base" blueprints on Steam. The new one is almost exactly the same as the old, but built from scratch in Alpha. There's a few stray texture differences, and the old walkways I used on the original are gone. The base is designed to be a starter base (though I use variations of it for outposts). It's got the basic stuff you can make at Level 5 - constructor, 2 fridges, food processor, clone chamber, Oxygen station, ammo box, cannon turret, 5 cargo boxes, two fuel tanks, one oxygen tank and space for 2 3x3 growing areas. It takes 50 more iron ingots than you start the game with. The Starter version: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=651760107 The Empty version (just walls and windows): http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=651760257
Want a base with those hanger bay shields you saw on the old MS Titan from pre-alpha, well heres is one and its a proper BA not a CV. http://empyriononline.com/threads/station-with-hanger-bay-shields.5978/
Workshop-for-SV-and-HV A small base that looks like a workshop with three cannon turrets. The door is big enough for an small HV/SV and has a three blocks high foundation. This base is more an test for my self, i hope we get hangar doors or force fields in the next time. I used a HV/SV door for this base.
Introducing the Scarab Outpost starter base. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=691276487 Early game starter base designed to give a player an edge up on their beginning. Equipped with 4 cannon turrets, will ensure those pesky drones do not mess with you. Designed as an incredibly early game structure. Only Level 3 and 40 minutes required! Crafting, processing, farming, everything available to ensure a smooth transition into midgame. As with most of my builds. If you cant find a cargo/inventory container, its because ive hid it to prevent unnecessary loss of materials. Simply press P while inside the base to access the general UI. Look on the left side and choose the container/inventory that you were searching for (things can be renamed!). You can double click to access any inventory in this manner. This base specifically has its oxygen and fuel located in the floor. This is so that they can be expanded and you can upgrade the base as necessary. Have fun, good luck and enjoy! I will be placing this along with a starter version of my Stryker and Paladin hovers in a collection for easy one stop shopping!
