A tactic I have used to take a V3 tower whole is to charge the back side. Remove the bottom center block to expose the core. Then replace =) I have yet to have drone Ion turrets work for me though =( I think out of the two types of Ion Turrets, one of them you are not allowed to control.
Thx for the info. I will try it next time. Until now, I always destroyed the cannons before capturing the turret. The V3 is a real nice place to start from. I mostly used it on Omicron and Moon as planetary outpost.
hi not rly ... the ION 02 turret has other projectil effects as the ION 01 alien turrets. for humanoids (so how us) are the other turrets
First few tries I tried digging my way in to get the core, never worked. But I did notice that the first time you get near a tower there is a delay before it kills you in one shot. Using that delay I got to about 190m and hit the shift key to fun flat out, only thing that took a shot at me was the door sentry. Of course that was after dealing with the 5 droids that just insisted they had to say hi first. And no the guns don't work, had droid #6 show up while I was remodeling and almost shot me through the window. Glad you like my makeover, I was thinking of doing a red/white candy cane pattern but it's too hard to reach all the right spots.

Have you seen the movie Oblivion? If not then yes and if you have seen the movie then yes again . In the movie they had this tower way in the air and other variations like it on top of a mountain ect... Movie reason was for defense. This idea followed over with the design. But ultimately this design is trying to replicate the movie build to a degree. The other reason is that is just feels awesome being up so high

Hello all together, after six weeks ore collecting and bulding Ive finished my very first planetary base today. It was a long work with it and Iam really happy about the result. Well, the base is a large complex with a lot of room. It got an big hangerbay for small vessels with an workshop for some crafting activities. It got an control- or flighttower which offers a great overview around the base Also it got quarters for 13 persons. 2x 4persons quarters, 2x 2persons quarters and one officer or commander quarter with seperate restroom For all crewmans the base got another big restroom Then the base got an energiecenter of course. By using energie in "normal" mode (less using light, all devices switched off after using) the energiestore holds for 8 hours (thats what the info under key "P" told me) Further it got an small warehouse Also it have an seperate o2 room and last but not least an Labor with an medical corner/section Oh and of cause the base got some defend weapons. 5 turrents are installed, which save all sides of the base. (i got them allways swichts off by now but may I will need them in the future ) Here are some images about the basecomplex I named it "Omicron Alpha Basecomplex" EDIT on 17.09.2015: I changed the base a bit. Now it got a seperate core room, which has a double block wall. Also it got a emergency generator room. If the main energie center is out of order, you can use it to hold some primarily/important systems alive. Futher I rebuild the main entry, so the base got a entry hall now. And at least I made the warehouse a bit bigger. Well then, I think, now it is completly finished. I also updated the images and the blueprint for downloading as well
Hey thanx Ive got a small idea for a suggestion of the base. I think, i will seperate the core from the generator room. The core is direct under the generator right now and that seems to be very dangerous if something happend to the generator or fuel tanks next to it. XentorAntarix told me about the damage range of the generator and fuel tanks, also he told me that the enemys love to shoot the critical systems. I dont now, if base attacks will be attached to the game... so I will try to make it a bit saver I will build some kind of core room, like a computercore room we often see for example in Star Trek TNG or Babylon 5. The room will be next to the generator room and get a double block wall from all sides (thats the plan). I think, I will finish the conversion today evening/night. I will update my base post directly after it with updated images and of course the updatet upload file/blueprint . well the way I do it is to take out 2 of the guns on the floor and then run in on the corner where I destroyed the 2 guns. The guns won't attack you untill you get with in about 100 range. Use the assault rifle at range 150 or that Laser gun at 280 range... Its easy to take these towers.. Also the gun at the top of the tower is a AA gun so it will only attack SV and HV... I would all ways land my SV out of Line of sight at 200+ range or so.. I've lost like 3 SV's taking towers lol... Mainly reason was because i thought that I took it already.. Devs need to let us rename the towers.....
Need to rename as well as remove it from the map once it has been dismantled. I scrap some of the towers when I don't feel like mining and even after every scrap has been removed it still shows up on the map.
I'm sure this is a bug being worked on. And possibly been reported many times in the bugs section of the forums. They should know by now that the markers are still there after a tower capture and showing up a Alien tower version 1,2,3. Same as with depleted ore deposits still leaving markers up.
How do you defend your base? I only see one turret that can be used for base defense.. What happen to the others? I took over a Alien Tower 3 and in the area near it there are 2 other towers Tower v2 and v1. I captured v2 and v1 is 700 range away... Every day in game a drone respawns and attacks my new v3 base.... I just have most of guns that the v3 used before I captured it but none of them work (Turret and cannons).. How do I get them to work? Everything has power and the lights are on..
The tower weapons will not work for you even if you replace core. The only auto-defense I have had any luck with is placing my our Rocket Turrets. To get them to be active I first use them manually, after that they shoot anything with range that is a threat.
