CV-Hornet This is my first CV of this size. I build this ship as my main base for PVP server (where I'm playing right now). http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=839517934 The main idea of this ship was to build: - Armored - Well armed - Not too big - Not too heavy - Not very energy hungry - Good looking "main base" ship To do so, first I build armored core (from combat blocks), where are all devices are located behind armor (including engines). Front armor - 5 layers Sides armor - 3 layers Hangar armor - 2 layers After this, I build decorative external layer from regular steel blocks just to give this ship nice look. It's acceleration is intended. I decided it will be enough for this type of the ship. Main problem with decorative layer - it is easily destroyed and hard to repair. But since it is "main base" ship I'm not going into battle with it, but I will be able to return fire and escape if I will be ambushed (i hope armor and guns will give me enough time). To build this ship, first I decided that front acceleration 15m/s and side around 11m/s will be enough, so with only large engines (13 in total) it's weight should not exceed 35.000t. After this, I made plan, of it's core, in Excel, this simplifies the task and saved time. But building, texturing and painting decorative layer took a lot of time. I spend one week to build this ship in creative.
CV Hedgehog. I need to replace the flak turrets with cannons as I learned too late that in this version flak doesn't work on planets. Otherwise it's a great first CV. Requires no Erestreum or Zascosium, easy on other resource requirements, tough, and with teeth. More pics as the Steam Workshop page. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=833253502&searchtext=hedgehog
you can move everything on it just like building a sv or hv you don't have to keep anything where it starts, and as far as building a CV its more about what you want to build, and how strong and expensive do you want it to be. Other wise they really are the same as building a SV
I was going to make a big ol' promotion for this ship, and do some other stuff with it, but then Eleon decided we STILL can't have nice things, and slapped us in the face with their new class-sizing definitions. Anyway, this ship should've been a comfortable class-4 CV, it's now a fatass class-6 that, while it falls within the slightly-idiotic weapon restrictions that were recently adopted (I guess I kinda understand the performance issue side of things, but this is still ridiculous), and also has less than 1,000 devices (had much less than that before I stopped caring), my ship now apparently has too many polygons, so it's a class-6 no matter what. Thanks, Eleon. Anyway, here's my ship. I built it as a gift to the Space Moles guys for doing a beautiful rebuild of one of my ships. GARMR 86
Thanks Duplicate the image a few times, and apply the Swirl blur to them, in varying amounts. Play with the blend modes here, fade the layers out with layer/gradient masks. About 7-8 different color adjment layers to bring out the reds, and wash out the others (color choices and whatever effect you want will vary). Googled "dirt explosion", saved 2-3 different PNGs of, well, exploding dirt. After that, just a bit of freehand brushing, sharpening of edges, and layer masking to blend it all in and a simple blurred letterbox frame to cap it off. ~50 layers in the end, and PS is telling me about 41 minutes of 'art'.
Hi all this is my first post so if i get wrong ... I built CV a wile ago that I liked but with all the updates I had to update her, yeah i don't know what class she is and she got a lot of fire power but hey she is a Destroyer and that is what she does Welcome the EMP POSIEDON 390 So have a walk through her, please let me know what you think
Very nice design! Cool idea to make it resemble a submarine, i like that! I like the widening on the rear, it gives the ship some nice flowing lines, very nice!
Thanks for that, you just gave me a cool idea of a new design with rockets acting like torpedoes ! Cheers Dodgygoose

Its a beautiful ship, nice work! But I fail to understand why does it matter whether its size 4 or 6?
At the time I had built the ship, the max class size was 6 (it's currently a max-10 on experimental right now). For many reasons, this is often not allowed by a lot of online public servers. I wanted to build a ship that not only looked great, but also functioned well within the default limits set on most servers, which often seems is a max of class-5 ships with default weapon limits. Specifically being a class-4 is moot; what was more important to me was simply keeping it within the defaults, to maximize the amount of people who can use it. Nothing more than that I can totally understand the desire for compact CVs, as well as the fact that Eleon is very heavily changing the way class sizes are defined. This was kinda my way of building a "compact CV" (at least in my mind it is, hahaha). I guess to me, a capital vessel is still a large ship (especially when compared to fighters, bombers, and interceptors), even if it is only a class-1. Thanks for the compliment and for having a look at my ship
Oh right, that makes sense. I can understand the frustration, hard to scale down at that point anymore. Haven't loaded anything from the workshop yet but I think I have to now. I think most impressive is all the details - big and small. They just look as if they have purpose and not just filling up empty space. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much, especially for noticing the intent behind the blocks I used. I tried very hard to make sure that all the detail pieces looked like they made sense from a mechanical standpoint, much like you would see on a real ship of comparable size. I may have gone a bit overboard in the rear, but hey... it's all just extra hitpoints and padding, right? I think the best compliment is when someone can actually visualize the same things you did whilst building the project, not just make comments like "cool!" or "nice ship!" I'd rather hear why you liked it, so again, thanks.
Finished making the Starflight 1 Intrepid type explorer. It is a pure PvE ship, but in the current state of the game not really usefeul until we can actually go and explore distant star systems. But it was fun creating this old friend for this game. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=845115643
Very much this. Pipes do nothing but look like pipes, so use em where they should be used* with things like half blocks and details, a couple of them are just as good armour protection as a full block, so internals made of multiple layers are just as good as solid outer layers in terms of defense. why not use them? One of these days I'm going to build something purely made of pipes. *Artistic license allowed
