Heh, until they implement Ammo for turrets/weapons. Then running around reloading each one could become a full time job.
I would hope that dev will implement a "magazine" system/blocks to handle that. But for right now I would be worried more turrets will result in more self inflicted damage
Another done in survival . Its a small frigate called the Phoenix III 2 x large thrusters 4 x slant thrusters 12 x directional thrusters 2 x RCS cockpit 2 x large generators 3 x fuel tank(large) 4 x oxygen tanks 5 x cargo boxes 1 x large constructor 1 x advanced constructor 2 x medic station 2 x oxygen stations 4 x passenger seats food processor 1 x fridge 4 x machine gun turret 2 x rocket launcher turret 2 x rocket launcher fixed 4 x pulse lasers 1 x large rocket launcher turret 1 x gravity generator I pretty much mined out Akua of all Iron just to build this thing. well armored and armed, also fairly maneuverable
With a larger solar system to explore just around the corner, I felt the need to have a realistic CV ready that wont break the bank even while just sitting idle. I think the MS-Shaman is the answer. She weighs a light 8.9kt and uses 770kw idle while still having everything needed for survival. That is less than half compared to my last ship in both categories!
Well I thought I was ready to start playing with CV class builds, but now I'm not so sure. With the difficulty of finding them away from the asteroid field and the tendency to lose them close to a planet had me wondering if space was really ready to play in yet. Now this. Started a creative session to start exploring CV builds, found one there that looks cool and was going to give it a test drive. First thing I did before even moving was do a weapons test fire, that did not go so well. What it looked like before the weapons test fire. What it looked like after the weapons test fire. The fireworks were cool to watch but I thing somebody got a batch of defective pulse lasers. As it stands weapons in space may be more dangerous to the wielder than the enemy. And I thought it was only rocket launchers that went BOOM! Oh well, it WAS a good looking ship.
Yeah, if the pulse lasers are embedded too far back this will happen. I have found keeping the barrel completely out in the open avoids this.
After much trial and error I have come up with a combat worthy design. Its quite the fuel hog, mainly due to the decor. The interior could be flushed out more. I was running out of ideas. The Fuel bays are engineered to not have a catastrophic chain reaction. Engines are isolated and turrets are shielded. Everything was designed and tested to take a pounding and to not have a single point of failure. MS Hades - Battlecruiser Mass: 36kt Fuel Capacity: 1200 units Idle Power: 4mw Max Power: 100mw Primary Weapons: Housed 2x Rocket Launchers, 7x Pulse Lasers Secondary Weapons: Variety of turrets for defense and offense. Large 9x5 Landing bay opening Hanger Bay Bottom Level - Storage / Constructors Blue Level - Crew / Med / Hydroponics Yellow Level - Brig / Science / Engineering Green Level - More Crew Quarters Red Level - Bridge / Captains Quarters / Observation Lounge
It is definitely a beast of a ship. I admit I had a hard time finding my way around at first, but I had the same problem with my first huge ship as well. I hope we eventually get a way to add signs so getting lost is harder to do. I also hope they address the insane power consumption issue. 4MW consumption is unplayable without an army constantly mining for blue rock. Good job, I look forward to exploring your next creation. Cool idea with the brig btw.
What does MS stand for in ships names? I doubt its Microsoft... Also crew in big ships will be divided like this if they dont add better power systems..: 1% pilot 99% people that replace fuel
I recieved a message that the file for this ship I posted is corrupt. I am not able to get to my computer at the moment to verify. Has anyone else had an issue with it?
Signs, yes signs would go a long way. That is why I put the colored strip for each level and the colored light for the transition hallways. Believe it or not this is the 4th try at something of this scale. The others I would get the shell done or mostly done, zoom back and wish I could insert 10-20 block to stretch it out or something. There is one that I might finish even though the cool thing about turned it into a fuse of doom =( Power is a problem and there is not much that can be done about it with how the game is right now. Doors, Cargo and Lights take 1kw each simply because the game does not support a lower value. In RL a 1kw light is not a light, its a stove heater element and a really hot one to boot. A LED hallway light is 24w or 0.024kw a far cray from in game 1kw. I think dev should really consider these smaller power users to be item that require power but not fuel. To have something like Fusion reactors or Atomic Battery arrays that offsets idle power. Leave fuel for active power usages like flight, guns and constructors. This all ties back to my thread of Med to Large CV have no value.
I really do not know what "MS"stands for. Need to ask dev, I started using it be it is Empyrion Canon.
The Myriad Hello All, I was curious to see what level of detail was possible using mostly squares and triangles. After a few weeks of experimentation, my result was the Myriad. I named this ship after the base word upon which the sub-phylum Myriapoda was composed. I thought that the segmented armor vaguely resembled the body structure of a millipede, hence the name. My primary concern was to just make this ship look pretty. I did try to make the different design elements have a logical sense to them. Download: Myriad.zip Current Features: Dimensions - roughly 76 wide, 243 long, 44 high Weight - 82.9 kt No interior rooms or lighting as of yet. I wanted to have this blueprint available as a template for other people to modify to their liking. I'll probably work on another version with interiors. Lower hanger for normal fighters and a VIP docking area Large (decorative) Gauss cannon in front Lots of large thrusters make movement fairly snappy. Turning, however, is not this ship's strong point (feel free to throw down more RCS modules). If you are interested in seeing on overview of my build process or additional screenshots, I posted them here: http://lonelyfederigo.imgur.com
Ok, I had to go look it up myself, MS stands for Motor Ship. Here is the wikipedia link for all the funny ship naming prefixes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_prefix Enjoy
