Can we see that screenshot at night, with all the ships powered up? I'd like to see what everyone did with their lighting, but I'm stuck at work for hours
Stupid lighting draw distance. I see a few glowing panels in there though Guess I'll have to wait for this evening and have a proper poke around.
I drive a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria police interceptor. Efficient at being comfy and stout enough to take out a dump-truck. That being said I generally drive less than 200 miles in a month.
I updated the Argos to add space for grow plots in the aft compartment. Not installed but now there's room for them.
Oh, i didn't know the warp tank radiates too. But i succumbed and did some other changes aswell (workshop is updated): - Added Advanced Constructor and medical station. - Moved warpdrive tank outside because it generated radiation to cockpit. - Made entrance ramp slightly longer, to make easier to get on. - Slight changes with cockpit blocks to make it smoother. But it is still not suitable for PvP servers, unless you escort it. I just never plan to play on such servers anyway.
Here's my entry: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1228952917 Designed to be cheap and just a way to get around with a bit of cargo. Room on the top to dock a SV or slap on some extra turrets. Tested on Omicron caps at 94%, comes in at 692t. Seats 3. My critique with it is the glass: I had to do it that way so I could get stuff inside the cockpit area without making it massive. I blame the game Best entry is from the front and you will need to jetpack up into the lift. The Mk2 Version is here (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1228983174) , has reinforced glass and combat steel however it's mass is too high at 1.06kt for this.
This one is actually a better fit for your orginal challenge Fluffy; only has one sm generator. So no need to include it in this one unless you feel like it . No warp, fridge, constructor, so no Bonus! Basic Steel, single sm thruster in each direction. Handles well though and doesn't exceed 94% on Omicron in 3D flight (Sentry Guns off). Very early starter CV, unlocks at lvl 7. Since I tend to skip SVs this would work well for my playstyle. And cramped internal dock holds my starter HV. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1228941176
Are these changes in the version you uploaded into the workshop? (I have subscribed to it) I noticed the area where you have walkway blocks to be replaced with grow pots, but the single block missing from the ceiling for the grow light seems a little abrupt. Maybe use some angled blocks to soften the edges? Good job, it meets the challenge now. It has a designated area for the pilot and all hazardous components are located outside the pilots cabin. I am however, leery about the side thrusters being located right next to the ramps, it's outside the ship, but you have to walk past them to get on the deck. You still have plenty of weight to play around with, if you want it more suited for a PVP server you can put thin plates over the tanks and a steel/glass cage over the generators. Nimble, but as you pointed out, the ship goes over 90% while in flight. Also, there is a steel block touching the ground. The cabin is oxygenated and safe for the player. Not part of the challenge, the thrusters are covered by vents, but visible. The spotlights are behind windows, also believable. But I would recommend useing the "Change and Rotate" setting on the multitool on the cockpit's glass panels. The cabin is oxygenated and I did not fry no matter where I wandered. It's flight performance is good. since it only has the one small generator and redlines at 95% usage while flying, you are allowed a second small generator for the challenge. Not part of the challenge, no buried thrusters or spotlights. Very basic, but very good as a bare minimum starting ship. I see you are on the experimental branch, did you have a stair block going to the pilots seat? I'm just curious because it looks like you could have used one but, if you did, it's not spawning. I saw that with another ship also build in experimental and was wondering it's related on both ships.
Dude, the contest is killing me. I honestly would never fly anything that I've made in a week to try to get this done. It is the weight that is killing me. I'm not asking for an adjustment. I just don't have the will to make something I wont use. Sorry @Fluffy . I'll make you something in this vein so you can see where I would have gone and forward it. I just would never fly anything so... Fragile. Good luck all. They look awesome so far.
<chuckle> Fragile? I did not enter it because it's an older creation, but it's made of hardened steel and has armored windows. Here is a link to it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=847169663
Granted, it's no planet buster like the double-hulled monstrosity I built a while ago, but the antennas are meant to be replaced with pulse lasers or rocket launchers. It's small size and high agility make it hard to hit.
Thanks @Fluffy ! Re redlining, did you turn off the Sentry Guns? And I didn't put stairs up to pilot chair; wanted that extra bit of room to dock. Single Gen power wise it seems like if the non-thruster draw is kept to 76 kW or below then it hits 94% but not 95%. So it was either not install the Sentry Turrets or the Clone Chamber. Or count on remembering to turn the Sentry Turrets On/Off. I have an idea on how to add another generator; it's not the expence, it's that it kind of feels like a waste if it doesn't have warp too. Anyhoo, thanks for taking a look and providing feedback, it's appreciated !
I decided to fire up a survival game, spawned it, replaced the antennas with pulse lasers, and went after Thermica station. Short story, I managed to take out Thermica's turrets while the ships turrets kept the drones at bay. I even had some of the cockpit glass left after it was all over, but I was able to fly away. Not a stunning victory, but you take what you can get. Take a look around the beginning of the thread, this was originally a single small generator challenge, until we discovered that the absolute bare minimum you need to fly redlines a small generator. Trying to build the largest structure the game will allow?
Added 2nd sm genie. Doubled thrusters so 2ea Sm's in each direction. Added Fridge. Rework allowed 2ea sm O2 & Fuel tanks. 2ea lrg cargo cont but unfortunately they're buried so have to use P menu to access. Hardened pilot/cargo/landing-bay area. Still weak at bay entry due to Shutters. Added a sm ramp up to pilot seat for ya @Fluffy . With everything On 3D flight maxes at 94% for me in Omicron atmo. Edit: I left the first one alone & it's still up on Steam. This one is the A20v1 with it's own workshop page. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1229287199 Edit2: pic with top blocks removed to show layout. Should I swap fuel tanks (orange) w O2 tanks..?
Ah I remembered the "mustn't redline" part of the challenge, technically it doesn't redline at 94% But I'll get that down below the 90% requirement. I'll swap that ground-touching block, didn't think it would really be considered part of the hull but I can understand how it might be. I'll see if I can fix the glass. Hopefully post the update later today. Cheers
