Hey all, I dig underground bases a lot. Even bases that start built on the surface may eventually have underground rooms. I built my latest base on a very pretty Jungle-type planet, surrounds by trees and thick foliage. Nice. However, after a little underground expansion, a large chunk of the surface is now just the regular light-brown dirt texture, rather than green grass. Plus the actual clumps of grass - the modelled stuff, rather than the surface texture - are all gone too. When I initially dug out underground, the surface remained untouched. It's only after digging deeper - NOT up - that the ground texture changed. Like I said, I go under ground a lot when base-building, and changes to the surface haven't been a thing for a while. Has a recent update - I'm on v1.19.6 5188 - changed something? I recall in the past, a long time ago now, that building underground would clear all vegetation above ground. However, the grass texture remained. It was quite jarring, but has not been a thing for ages. Aside: I like building in pretty locations while not impacting the area's natural beauty. My Bases tend to look more like tiny structures, no larger than a small Wreck POI... but only on the surface. To be clear: I initially dug a hole as a temporary place to hide from Critters. Surface unchanged. I then build a small 7x7 base - four blocks tall - over the hole. Surface remained unchanged. I dug out the area below quite extensively - surface rocks rare, I need crushed stone - and the surface still remained unchanged. Finally, I started digging down in layers, and only then did the surface change. Not tried a save / reload cycle to see if the surface is restored, but I've little reason to believe it would be. Note that all of this has happened during one play session, no reloading, no changing playfields.
