A lone survivor, crashed on an inhospitable ice world . . . https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198071309618/screenshots/ https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd....605/D21AC1FEB8768F72DE83CF72971C1DFAE4522CED/
Yep, I think the arctic planets are the best. Whoever did those models and textures really deserves a big piece of cake.
Somebody asked me about a custom creative scenario so grabbed the desert playfield and tinkered with it a bit. Maybe a 'Burnt Desert' type?
The playfield or the creative scenario? I've sent it to the person to see what they think of it, but apart from that I haven't given it much thought. It really is the desert playfield with a few more stamps and tweaks so it wouldn't take much to make it into a fully functional survival planet. Taken all the beasties out of it at the moment, but if I put some back in again I might add it to the thread Hummel's made (forget the channel it's in). Thinking of raising the temperature by 10-20 degrees and a rethink of what ore to have on the planet but that's about it...very little to do on it. Whether the creative scenario ends up on the workshop...honestly not sure. I have a creative scenario for the plateau playfield I put together (it's not ready for survival just yet but good for creative), but I've kept that purely for the Anvil community as I've learnt a lot from them (my way of giving back to them). Whether I do a separate one with this and a few other planet types....undecided, just dabbling at the moment to see what I come up with...just the usual creative routine we tend to go through
Not to say some planet environments aren't "moody", but this is one game where I come to a thread like this and end up thinking: this thing looks 20 years older than it is. EGS is many things, but beautiful is not one of them, sadly.
Having worked with Unity myself for over 5 years, unless you're using something like Megascans you can almost always count on having to pull teeth from a horse to get it looking good, and you may as well smack yourself in the hand with a hammer if you're aiming for photo-realism in anything but the most controlled environments i.e. car driving on a road in barren country. To be honest, I would love to rework the art pipeline for EGS as art pipeline is what I do professionally, but alas, I am not on eleons team.
If you don't like it... You don't have to comment on it. Most of the Pics in here come from Scenario Creators and Players who enjoy the results of this hard work. So please keep such thoughts to yourself or put it somewhere else within the Forum.
