I'm no blender expert, but I understand that if I could somehow export a Blueprint to the correct kind of .OBJ mesh file, I might be able to skin it in Blender, and from there be able to use that in other apps and games, or even just send the .OBJ to my 3D printer and print my blueprint out in PLA. I'm no blender or 3D expert at all, but since SE supports doing this, with just a hotkey in game, I wonder how much of a jumping about in the guts of things that someone like @Kassonnade ? has done to give us an idea if this is even possible to do in EGS?
This really sounds like a lot of fun. I've also been getting an urge to want to print out ships that I've made on my 3D printer.
There are some tools to get models into Empyrion, but I'm not sure if they're still maintained or up to date. A quick search gave me this : https://empyriononline.com/threads/empyrion-model-import-tool.10280/ For the other way around ( Empyrion to external) maybe @jmcburn can give you some tips, because he made a blueprint viewer in his playfield designer that allows visualization of the blueprint in 3d. Download the tool and check it, it's quite a cool feature : https://empyriononline.com/threads/tool-empyrion-playfield-designer-v2-0-6-exp.37581/page-51 So obviously there's a way to reconstruct a blueprint but I have no idea if it can be converted to some mainstream 3d object format.
Would possibly get further if more of the tools got open-sourced more often. But it's not for everyone to not want to extract value instead of dealing with community interference pain I guess. Thanks for the pointer, only a matter of time. I just assumed that someone had already gotten export to blender magically working.
