A Square Grow Light emitting a Square Light Beam onto the Square 3x3 Grid of Grow Plots would indeed be a lot more sensible.
The food system is seriously lacking. There is no equivalent to cacao beans! Is life worth living without chocolate? I recommend adding chocolate to the food system.
One big issue. I started a private multiplayer server with a friend, we started with almsot nothing, wich is fine. However, we want to grow food, to do so we need crop plots, to make them we need plastic, to make that we need corn, to get corn we have to grow it, to grow it we need a crop plot (and thats assuming we can find seeds) Make crop plots use steel or something
The change to the food yields has been interesting, to say the least, given a lot of unintended consequences (as far as I can see). Originally, one plot = 1 food item. e.g. 1 corn, 1 pumpkin, 1 whatever. The food processor allowed you to trade a few food points for increased durability (1 durian (40 fp) +1 pumpkin (60 fp) +1 tomato (40 fp) +water + 1 steel = Canned Vegatbles (150 food, lasts a LONG time) . Since 1 durian could become space fries (75 fp) you were paying 175 fp to yield 150 fp with a REALLY long timer. With the changes to plot yields and recipes, however, the wastefulness of many recipes is punishingly high. Let's take, for instance, the odd case of fresh foods, and the wonder meal corn. Corn's value per harvest, at 1, was 40 fp per plot. Comparable to tomatoes, lower than wheat, pumpkin, or durians. Now, however, with the new effects, durians and corn provide 160 fp per plot. However, durians reduce body temperature, and corn does not. This makes these two food items suddenly the potentially highest tier seedlings in the game; which you use depends largely on the planet you're growing them on. High temperature planets almost beg for you to grow tomatoes and durians, whereas temperate or cold planets you're better off using corn. Since you can eat either one very quickly by hotbar and button spamming, the time saved by using high food count, and now highly wasteful food recipes (4 tomatoes now yields more than 100 food, 4 durians 160, but canned vegetables takes 4 tomatoes, 4 durians, and 4 pumpkins(themselves another 60 fp). You are taking 380 points of food and reducing them to 150 fp now, which is more than a little wasteful. Let's not even get into the situation with pear pies. How do you take a bunch of pears, and flour and sugar, and come out with less calories than the pears alone were worth? Food system needs a rework, as does the medkit system. But THAT hot mess I'll deal with in another thread.
The food system right now does not provide very many useful options for prepared meals. I can summarize the entirety of practical food choices as follows: Just starting out? If yes, eat raw stuff or kill something and cook salami. Otherwise, from high preference to low, depending on availability of milk/wheat/meat: pizza canned meat canned veggies. Everything else is basically irrelevant beyond doing something other than letting food rot. I don't really have a good suggestion on how to fix this, other than perhaps increasing the variety of useful recipes and perhaps making tomatoes hard to grow.
I feel that there should be some kind of thirst system. A bit strange that we don't need to drink anything when humans are 60% water. It would give the water generator more worth that is for sure.
Plus I hope Pumpkin Milkshakes get Implemented someday, & I wouldn't mind them getting a practical use to go with it.
I would rather not have to worry about thirst. One thing I like about Empyrion is its balance between reality and fantasy. It's starting to get too close to having too much "realism" to worry about (temperature, radiation, equipment degradation). I play to relax and have fun, and to not have to worry about real life things. I don't want to have to micro-manage everything, like in real life. It can also be argued that we are getting the liquid intake we need from all the plants. Akua berries, durians, oranges, pears, tomatoes, etc. I've played another game that has both food and thirst, and honestly, I feel the thirst doesn't add anything to the game. It's just another resource I need to collect and process. More busy-work that the developers have saddled me with. Apparently, I'm not the only one that feels that way, because there is an option to turn the thirst system off. If the thirst system were made optional, then perhaps it would be OK. I think, though, that there are other items that the devs could better spend their limited time on, than something that adds so little to the game (and could easily end up detracting from it). Now that I have said all of this, the devs do seem to have laid the groundwork for some sort of thirst system. Harvesting water, purifying it, bottling it, etc. tl;dr: I would prefer not to have thirst, or have it be optional. The devs might already be planning this.
I've long complained about our Characters's Metabolisms seemingly being seriously stupidly fast. Ya should see how fast it ticks down when wearing Heavy Armor with 4 Armor Boosters. It can make one miss Minecraft's "Saturation" Mechanic.
Tropical juice, made from 1 akuaberrie 1 space orange 1 perthling fruit and 1 purified water, made from the food processor. Lemonade, made from purified water and spiked lemon.
Like the sound of both of those. Though... that latter one... Pre-Spiked Lemonade might have a bit of trouble trying to find any Fan Following.
At some point I started wondering if the developers were not subject to perpetual hunger themselves, working night and days on fixes and stuff, and this being relatively "normal" to them they may simply not understand what the players are complaining about !..
how about orange juice instead of lemonade, made from space orange. or mabey the lemonade will give the same effect of the sastima booster but with no side affects, and unlike the spiked lemon, it will not take away health.
That may well be Plausible! Orange Juice sounds lovely. Also, when ya said "sastima booster", did ya mean to say "Stamina Booster"?
Also, when ya said "sastima booster", did ya mean to say "Stamina Booster"?[/QUOTE] yup, im kind of really bad at spelling
I'd like to see some more versatility in the refining of base goods. For instance, it seems strange to me that ONLY seaweed can be used to make biofuel- especially when you can make hydrocarbons from any suitable oil, whether soybean, corn, or even rendered turkey fat. I propose the following, that meats, corn, plant protein, and seaweed are usable to craft oils, which are refinable into biofuel. Different plant matter provides different amounts of oils- say plant protein provides 1 unit of oils per 2, seaweed and corn provide 1:1, meats 2:1. This coupled with the idea of less efficient engines that require biofuels could be used for lower tier vehicles, like wheel vehicles that would span the gap between the bike and hover vehicles. Biofuel generators could be used to augment prometheum generators aboard ship, in a base, or in a vehicle. Likewise, this could also be a jump off point to produce NPCs in different developmental stages, something between "Space travellers" and "hunter gatherers".
soybean and corn is more likely used as cooking oil. and i still hope you can power your house with corn
We have specifically designed engines in cars that can run on vegetable oil, veg oil is just another form of biofuel which is a hyrdocarbon, ethanol is made out of plants, anything plant can be fermented can be used a a biofuel.
