No, not a bug at all. Escape key does not pause the game and isn't supposed to. Read your keybinds in game again. The pause button is the "Pause/Break" key on your keyboard. It is typically above the "Page UP" key. Obviously only works in single player mode.
oh, ok guess I missed that keybind and had remapped the pause key to something else I always have to remap all the keys, none of them suit me and so use to most other games that use the escape key to pause games, was expecting the Devs to follow suit and be standard with all other games, obviously not.
