Im only really on my second playthrough, but I have never had an issue with the bike. Its a little difficult to control, but not horrid. I really only use it a few times before I get the materials to fix up a small HV, then it just sits there. But for an emergency tool, I dont see it as a big deal. There are much larger fish to fry in my opinion.
I hate two things - its maneuverability (lack of it), and the fact that it actually works on magic. On the other hand, without it, it would be easy to die on the initial winter planet.
It's not "magic" that powers the bike. It uses the forces the player applies on the handlebars to try to control it and converts it to power...
in a q and a they said they want to replace it with a hover bike. I think a stock blue print and is as cheap as possible that is a hv bike would be better
I think they should keep it as a motorbike instead of a hoverbike. It would be a useless model for the devs to make as most never/rarely use the thing, and it would seem as there's no technical progression in the game. RN you go from motorcycle to spaceship, not straight to a practical hoverboard. It would be bypassing thousands of years of human progress with finding 3 iron rocks on the ground. Just like how you go from mechanical drills to laser ones, there needs to be some sense of technical progression of simpler technology to more advanced technology.
We can make a fancy multitool but no sticks and bows... We could at least be able to ride pangolins !
I don't see any major guilts to the motorbike. It is rather slow in manoeuvering and a little tricky, but it's ok as its free (at least from a HV-owner perspective). Consistency would suggest you can turn with the mouse and not only with the keys. There you can see it was one of the first cool things introduced to make the player's life easier.
Ok thank you for whoever showed the youtube video explaining why the bike was a trainwreck sometimes and perfectly usable other times. That was immensely helpful. Those of you who havent seen it, check out. It all comes down to it being linked the FPS and it could be perfectly usable if they ever fix it so it is not linked to fps and was reasonable maneuverable.
I don't mind it since it's so early game. It makes the progression to starter HV feel more meaningful after having tortured yourself a bit on it.
Keep the motorbike. I'm a newbie and kind of a medicore player when becoming senior. Most of you guys do follow the game for ages but the motorbike is not for you. I can tell : it is simple, spawnable, cheap at building, so it is perfect for a "new life starter".
I use it to harvest pentaxid when my armor allows it. And in many other situations where I want to save time. It's always in my inventory. Just keep it.
I used one back in 9.x when I first started playing but haven't for quite awhile- a small SV beats both the motorcycle and HV for my style of play and if you pick everything you lay your eyes on it takes hardly any time to build one. To be sure I just did a snow planet start on default settings and was able to scratch build a 70 m/s SV with a couple of Gatling guns in an hour which included getting to level 5, building a base so I could build the small constructor to build the large constructor to build the engines ... with a blueprint build it would have taken 30-40 minutes tops. That said flying in ground effect on the HV is fun and you can make a pretty nice portaBase with one so I get it. The motorcycle just isn't something I build other than to make Robinson happy-
If the motorbike is usable or not is heavily depending on the starter planet in my opinion. The more obstacles or cracks there are, the more useless it gets. On PE Pandora i.e. it is completely useless and I directly opted for a HV there.
I was thinking this same thought while reading the posts here. I like the idea of a booster that is specially designed for forward thrust rather than height could be nerved to 30m/s or 40m/s at least then you'd be able to get over that hill
I like the motorcycle. It beats walking. Yes, it could be improved quite a bit, especially in the physics department, as well as being able to colorize it and park it and not have it fold back up into a kit and evaporate, as well as being able to fire a one-handed weapon while riding.
I want something with all terrain tires - a racing bike is not adequate for the wilderness. Smaller turn radius - give us the same animation and turn radius when going very slow forward than we have going backward. And it needs GRIP. It's laughable how we polish the floor going up a hill, hardly getting ahead at all. Also, let it do jumps if we speed up a hill and over the top. Tons-heavy HVs can do it, but a motorcycle...well, seeing as it doesn't even manage to actually get UP the hill at anything resembling speed....
Motorcycle turn radius is currently related to your FPS. If you have 10FPS, it will have a very small turning radius. 100FPS? Very large.
