The pic is of the first satisfactory Blender model of the kind of terrain that I'm bringing into EGS. I just finished it. As much as I'd love to take credit for sculpting it most of the credit belongs to Nature. It's derived from a USGS heightmap of an area near Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. All I did was tweak some things to make it all playable. The color is just something I applied to show the terrain. I'll bake a greyscale map of this then export to PS to convert to Unity RAW and see how it looks in the game. Wish me luck - I need all the help I can get. :D

    Hi @binhthuy71 !

Cool! Desert dunes / good erosion are very difficult to make- in procedural and even with editors. :)

    Just a thing-
I had problems with terrain stitching at the edges. The upper and lower edges (from the pic) don't matter, since they lie inaccessible behind the red pole walls. But the 'left' and 'right' edges are where the green wall is located. Very likely this will give you a steep cliff...

Thanks, you saved me some trouble. I'll make some changes to the left and right sides so that the transition is smooth. I want to take a look at the lo_map as well. I think that it may be a lower-res version for LOD. I'm baking a lower poly version and I'll load that to check.

@Needleship, I baked a new terrain from another part of Lassen and then added some tweaks to make it more interesting. Thanks to proportional editing the right and left edges are in the same plain.

    Hi @binhthuy71 !

Yes, that will work better! :)

    - For the 'map.raw' and 'lo_map.raw' (about 2.7 MB - 10 MB, usually in the (EGS)/saves/(yourSave)/Playfields/(yourPlanet) - folder) :
These are files for the in-game planetary map view ('m') and the 'orbit look' of a planet.

I think the 'lo' one is for the faraway planets, but the other version is definitely for the in-system closeup. The game will create these files automatically during your first visit.
If you made changes to the terrain and want to refresh your planetary map, delete these files before loading a save.

    - You'll only need a single '(yourTerrain).raw' file, about 65 MB in size, with it's name defined in the playfield.yaml. The game checks for it in the '(EGS)/content/terrains' folder, or in '(EGS)/content/scenario/(yourScenario)/terrains'.

Thank you. Sounds like you're walking way ahead of me and I appreciate the help. I fiddled with the lo map and I couldn't figure out what it was for. Good to know I only need the map.raw.

I saw some questions here in the forums. Didn't bother to answer that guy who got so hostile from the get go.
    - But in these cases... Not sure what official policy on this topic is, but I guess, players tinkering and making content of their own is near-always a win for the game.
I'm out of work and didn't hear anything lately, so I assume the devs are busy to tie up and smoothen the latest release.
And as much as it is fun, and fulfilling, there is enough to do and space to fill in an 'infinite galaxy'.
... It's possible that you play on a .raw/splatmap planet that I made right now. ;)

'Once you ((got that model somehow converted into the .raw)), ((all the planets)) will be in your reach. And I'm curious what you will do with it.' :)
