Worked an a Research Center: I tlooks pretty but it has a major drawback: It's essentially 4 times the same structure, which makes it kinda boring to play. Well, I'll take it as a learning experience. Thinking of adding a cellar with a Mad Scientist theme or maybe some balconies to play on. Could lead to an interesting high-altitude POI. Let's see to what it evolves. If stripped of its guns and spawners this could make an interesting civilian building as well. Then there was the Research Station: When I worked on the interior of the large spire of the Research Center, it suddenly collaped. I was really, really pissed as I forgot to backup and had to revert to a much earlier verison, losing a few hours of hard work. Where's the Omega 13 if you need it? But... I was able to salvage the rest and decided to make a smaller version, inbetween the Observation Post and the Research Center. Looks nice, even has a small park. I am definitly keeping it. Then I finally(!) found a shape for that darned Communications Tower that was bugging me for so long. Once more the same octaedrical structure... doh...
Today i was flying around on the grumpy old men server to farm my miners. While i was on my way back from an alien planet where i just got my 12 zascosium miners, an update hit, so the server got down and me too. After logging in back it wa simpossible to warp to any planet anymore. While it was still possible to activate the warpdrive it was not possible to get anywhere. This way i eventually used up my pentaxid cargo box by trying to warp somewhere. So now i was stuck in this system but because i never give up i strated to just fly with 110m/s to the Planet i wanted to fly to. This way i was at 50000m away from the planet when i logged off. However this had somethingpositiv, because now i am curious where the playfield border is and if there is a border? there for this got to a little experiment.
Maybe you could make on of the octagons out of alien blocks? Maybe some form of an alien habitat? I think the resarch station needs some form of cameras ...
Hmm.... Close, but you need to carve some holes and add some protrusions... you can do it! dont give up.
A quick shot of my Small Vessel fleet. From left to right, the Starfish construction lighter, two Federation Workbees, the Lightning light strikeship, and my workhorse, a Space:1999 Eagle. Didn't like any of the designs in the workshop for the Eagle, so I made my own.
I really like the idea of the "civilian" side of space. People moving stuff around. I hope, at some point, there will be an aspect of the PvE game where you have to move cargo around, etc. Inspired by some of the cargo pods on the Workshop (Tesla's comes to mind), I have created a series of five cargo pods. Each one is an SV, for docking/moving purposes. There's one for each type of container available to SVs. Each container has a unique shape, and the hazardous cargo are marked with a red band, and warning signs. Each pod can be individually numbered, and the LCD screens inside can be used to note the contents of each pod. Each pod has a set of landing gear, for shock absorption, and the ability to be locked into a cargo frame. Enjoy! Top row: Bulk/Dry, Refrigerated Bottom row: Fuel, Munitions, Oxygen Next up? A cargo ship to carry pods around the 'verse. See you, Space Cowboys!
I'm getting some ideas on how to fix it. I also came up with something really cool last night while fiddling around out of frustration. It will be somewhat on the large side for an SV but it should be neat looking.
And now, the Grouper class orbital ferry. can safely land six of the standard Con-Am containers, with plenty of power to lift off from any gravity well. The high-visibility control center provide ample awareness of the pilot's surroundings.
Yeah, we noticed it in the experimental patch notes thread on tuesday, you're soooooo slow It's just So. Awesome. It's the first time we've had anything accepted like this. There's a tinge of regret that they picked one of our less... eccentric designs though, but that's certainly not enough to dampen our spirits Onwards and Upwards! (in big ships!)
Maybe I won't scrap it after all but it's gone through some changes. I've been working on my design all day and came up with this: The other design I started last night. It's still very rough at this stage. I'm debating whether or not to turn this second design into a CV or not. If only SVs had gravity generators. What do you guys think? Keep it as an SV or turn it into a CV?
I found out that many ships have higher power requirements with the new patch. I have been going over my old builds, adding generators to the ships that need them, and updating the blueprints.
Got a significant amount of the front outside of the Alien POI Contest Entry done, then a fav pal of mine came online & I spent the rest of my evening yakking with him about the upcoming Pokemon Sun & Moon.
Phew, nice design, although the colours would drive me crazy. I endeavoured to complement my asymmetric SV with an asymmetric CV, which you can find in more detail in the other thread.
I've always liked blue and yellow, and I'm doing color schemes that throw back to the glorious era of 70's sci-fi book cover spaceships. However, the larger vessel is due for a repaint, swapping the yellow and blue. Thanks for the kind words!
That might make it more pleasing to the eye, with the darker colour more dominant. I particularly like the ringish/arcish structures around the rear.
It speaks to the strength of the design that they picked it though. Good job! You guys do great work.
So today I updated the game. The major large/small block and HV revamp was still in experimental last time I brought my desktop to an internet-available location for updates, once I saw that... I sortof took a hiatus, knowing lots of stuff I might've built in the meantime would have to be redone anyways. So I updated and started the game to make sure everything ran OK. I cringe - one of my CV works in progress was all curve, ring, and slants. The NASA-ISX inspired one... Pretty much only hull at this point, and correct me if I'm wrong (please!) but the replaceblocks commands don't handle changing corners and angles correctly... so it more or less has to be built from scratch again. I think it'll wait. Also when loading up my other finished CV blueprint, I LOVE how the lighting looks now, was rather startled at how vibrant the colored textures are now (made many areas of my CV very ... interesting to look at) and... havent played with HV yet. Things are different. Not necessarily worse, and I think we're moving towards better. I will have to change my color schemes though... I think I'll be playing a new survival mode game soon with the current version - maybe I'll finally get some decent progress in a survival game this time, with tougher bases and snazzy new SV wings, engines, and all the goodies? Who knows!
