Now I remember why the last time I tried building a large offshore platform type base I made it a ship instead of a base. Ah structural integrity.
From an Akua SP start - now a secure planet - I jumped my CV into Omicron Orbit. Aboard my CV, among other vessels, was my heavily-armed HV "The Survivor". Equipped with six Minigun, four Rocket and four Plasma Turrets along with a single Artillery piece, this is a hard-hitter. It has ample storage along with four Mobile Constructors which, while limited in their build list, allow me to process Ore quickly. Turning my hangar bay doors to face the planet, I climb aboard "The Survivor" and launch it towards the planet. Landing in a thankfully flat area, I proceed to take out all nearby POI's in the immediate area. Several I fully reclaim for their materials - I actually plan to try a Blueprint Base for a change, something I've never actually done before. I'd usually just secure one of the POI's or do a scratch build, and while I'm not a fan of being able to insta-spawn an entire Base, CV etc. I would like to try out some of the excellent included bases at some point. Having secured much of the planet, I finally find the Drone Base. I plan to leave it intact for now, as I've customised this drone bases compliment of drones it launches to attack bases. The Drone Base is right next to a large lake, I'm currently sat on my HV, on a cliff on the opposite side of that lake...a good location for my base methinks I really do like the whole "Dropship HV" style play, though my HV is proving both quite over-powered with it current weapons config, as well as rather limited in its construction capability. As per another thread of mine, I'd really love a "T2" or Advanced Mobile Constructor with some more build patterns. I have no choice but to spawn a BA in order to gain a Large Constructor so I can re-stock on ammo. I have ample resources, both mined and looted, my HV just lacks the tech to do anything with it. Still, it's fun to build a base, especially with my modded difficultly level... Wow, I obviously really got into my HV vs. Omicron game, it's 00:43!! Scoob.
First up, I have been revisiting older HV designs that have yet to be converted to the 4.x mechanics - will add a few to the workshop later this evening.... but, before that I want to point out a really nice HV design I discovered about a week ago: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=812892313 It is painfully slow, but looking at. The designer Sumetd-gorn has been posting some really interesting stuff recently - very throw back kind of designs with giant flaming wings on his ships that have numbers painted via textures on the side. Kind of a 70's/80's esque feel.
And then, well, I modified the HV @Siege Inc. made. I want to add more as this design screams potential; something along the lines of "I WANT TO BE MORE!" Just not sure what yet...
Introducing, Rebel Star. A cheap, fast, agile, well armed level 5 survival HV. Covers all terrain well, even glides! Lacks a constructor and O2 station, but there is room to add one if you need to. Steam Link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=814246270 Enjoy!
Finally "finished" my Drone Base. Finished...yeah... it still needs some touching here and there and I haven't playtested it - there is this nasty bug which completely goofs up the lights when structures are spawned, could not bring myself to assault the Drone Base under these circumstances. I must say... making interiors is harder than I thought. I thought hard about the outside and made drawings on paper... yes, it came out well. I like it. But the inside... omg, the inside... That's where most of the time goes. Making good looking and working insides is hard work. My recommendations to anyone who does that well. Spoiler: More Images
It R Finish-ed! Spoiler Well... when I say it's finished, I mean, I *think it's finished, at least in terms of I don't want/need to put any more blocks down, so... Yay! Structural Complete-ness! The down side is; I'm still looking at at least 7 Microsoft Minutes(tm) worth of painting! I don't want to put off publishing this any longer than I have to, I already feel like it's been in the shipyard for far too long, but I know what'll happen if I start..... Abaddon was/is a nightmare to paint; so many hulls with hulls, admittedly, Typhon is mostly boxes, big boxes with greeble on, but fundamentally a much easier to paint. So I'll spend the next I-don't-know-how-long painting it, and then.... we'll get better painting tools! :/ Anyhoo, painting woes aside, it is at the point where extra pairs of eyes really help with quality and consistency... So, I'll throw this out there... I could really appreciate someone doing a sanity-check on this thing, a walk round if you like, find the crap I'm just too close to see. It's no short task mind you... I get lost in the ventilation system many times Any willing victims *cough* takers? PM me!
None of my ongoing projects really called to me today. I did some menial painting of one hull because I didn't feel like playing any other game either. Debating what I'm building next. Do the forums have a thread for blueprint critique? I feel like every ship I build is that much better, but.... then I look at some of the stuff people make around here and I drop my jaw. Butterfingers.
I have been known to be quite critical; usually stuff like "too much flat space, not enough detail, wtf?! is this a disco?!" The problem with critiquing other people's work is that, as a creator, everything is seen through the lens of my own style. I try to spend some time each day meandering in the workshop, I rate up stuff that catches my eye, even when it's something I would never build, but I find it hardest to look past the paint-job somethimes.
DON'T DO IT - You'll be condemned to a life of servitude, the paint tool forever in your ha... Oh yes Master Builder, Nothing Master Builder Sir. Sir, please don't do that, it hurts....
You guys always have such amazing designs. The amount of detail work you put into them is incredible.
Good lookin li'l bugger. I can understand minusing the O2 Station if it's only meant to serve on Akua &/or Oscutune, but why no Constructor for on the go Salami? ... Maybe ya can just let people make up their own mind how they wanna Paint it if they choose to use it. Then ya have a valid excusereason to not do it.
so you seriously think anyone else is mad enough to paint these things? all that would happen is there'd be lots of unpainted hulls that look like ours. and that would be a shame yeah, we moan and complain, but we CAN'T not.
You know, gosh Vic.... I am just really not sure that ship is big enough... Good heavens. To run the length of that thing would be like running a quarter of F&%king Akua! Yeeeeesh!
Ya heard'em @vicomt & @oojimaflip ... ya've been Challenged! Sheesh Fractalite, ya can't even let'em rest from the last one?
"I had to run. If I walked, the movie would be over." So, today, we tell of the next to attempts to assault the planet. Two members of Con=Am took Block-D Typhoons down to the planet. At this point, no one had noticed that the planet was about 1.21 gravities. They were used to fractional gravities, and it was hard to maneuver. This will matter in a moment. During that assault, we lost BOTH Typhoons and the Phoenix was heavily damaged, but managed to escape. So, now we're down to a pair of combat aircraft in Black Squig Squadron. Hmmmm. So, we decide to build a drop-CV, and bring some replacements. After our Chief Engineer (Points) designed another in his series of "I'm going to build a brick sh*thaus", we loaded it up. Two artillery CV's, two Block-D Typhoons, and a hastily repaired Phoenix. Myself, Points, Briareos, and Sterrrn are all on the assault team. We "Land", nearby a Xenu Spaceport II, and begin the assault. Our pilots notice a distinct lack of lift in their craft, but press onward, the minigun turrets on the Drop-CV firing away like mad. We take the base, and strip it down, finding some of those 2XL "Big and Tall" CV Thrusters. This will ALSO matter in a moment. The Arty tanks can't maneuver, due to the high gravity. Field improvements are made. Welcome to the Block-B, Komodotank. So, we try and take off. Except we can't, because of (a) not enough thrusters, (b) heavy gravity which wasn't properly scouted/reported, and (c) I'm playing GM, so couldn't TELL them what was going on. Eventually, Sterrrn slaps two of the B&T Thrusters on, hap-haphazardly, and we escape to orbit! Hooraaaaaaaay! This is, by the way, invasion attempt number THREE. Enjoy your weekend, Empyrioners! --B.
Haha, that was not a challenge.... but this is; Hear ye, hear ye! Oh gentle towns folk of Empyrion yore. I do declare that, upon the many morrows, a challenge of the most supremist has been issued forth by one "Fractalite" to the most wonderist of designers the "Space moles" Aka @vicomt Aka @oojimaflip that they shall, build a ship that: 1. Must be, in some way, the entire length, width, and height of the building grid. That is to say 250 x 250 x 250. 2. Must be able to house and support a fleet of *checks his steam workshop* 22 hovercraft of varying sizes(with more likely on the way.) 3. Must be PVP viable(because, why the hell not? ) 4. Must not be a box, and must, *adjusts monocles to better view the warrant* cause one's bladder to release upon viewing its majesty 5. Must not be over the weapons limit 6. Must be planetary-entry viable. 7. I do defer to my most ablist of solicitors @Tyrax Lightning , have I forgotten anything sir?
