Two copies of a CV, converted to bases, merged, then reverted to CV. We're planning on what we can do with this very basic implementation of copy/paste
Although i abysmal hate PvP, it's nice to see some of my (heavy modified) babies in Battle and be VICTORIOUS! Right now i'm working on my first non Star Trek related ship.
Outside is almost finished, i hope i didn't already overdo it. I like smooth and clean looking starships, almost 60's or 70's styled. I can't do anything with 80's styled (and later) gritty looking starships. (You know the ones that look like metal boxes with guns everywhere.) Interiors need some polish and a bit more color. (I'm terrible with interiors, they always look the same on my ships. lol)
DUDE. YOUR SHIPS ARE AMAZING!!. I've downloaded almost all of them from the workshop. I'm a huge star trek fan . Having your Star trek ships teaming up on that one ship made that video EPIC . I do not know if you could see it but all three of Star Trek ships warped in to help out their friend. Just like the TV show.
What, freak shows like the Federation & Borg fighting together side by side as Allies? Also I laugh at the fact that those peeps had to 3 - 4 to 1 the Ichor Ravager cause they were afraid to 1 on 1 it. Good ol' Creator's Pride! Though if I was to ever Pilot a Federation CV, i'd opt for a Defiant Class! Hmm... camaraderie... when ya put it that way, ya do have a point there.
You know, I'd been experimenting with copy/pasting seconds of bases for modular building but ... now that you mention it, we can convert anything to a BA to benefit from this, can't we? Ooohh.... For topic, I'm working on a space base for a change. Big donut shape. Gravity gens in each quarter make gravity radial, in other words, the station is laid out as if its gravity were maintained by centrifugal 'force'. The overlap in the gravity fields even make the sloped sections of floor "flat". The basic torus shape is built with cubes though... I'm hoping I can smooth it out with some slopes without making it too awkward.
I''m building a new CV and finally finished the exterior. I learned today that you could use the Pearl texture on the exterior and paint over it giving your ship a nice shine. It works with all colors.
Bit of a creative block so I'm waiting for more inspiration to hit me but my mining outpost is coming along nicely. I've got the catwalks underneath the main platform built. It was a bit tricky but they turned out nice. I made some big cylindrical tanks attached to the ceiling. I've got a ginormous mining laser with some supporting machinery built and a few barrels of toxic waste sitting around near the two main buildings. I still need to finish the main buildings but I'm a little stuck for ideas at the moment. I plan to add more machinery and run piping everywhere. Maybe add a couple small buildings near the mining laser end of the platform. I very much want the complexity and detail to be on the level of the Space Moles or one of Jenniphurr's creations so I'm taking my time on this one. Spoiler
Greebles! Greebles everywhere! That is an insane amount of piping, I'd say you're well on your way already. Today I decided I wanted to try making a planet of my own... however planets are no fun without POIs, right? The core of a space station. I'm working my way inside out, so this is the only section that's actually worth looking at right now. Full combat steel, because blasting through weak hull plates is such cheese. No idea when it'll be done or even how big it'll be, but makes for an intriguing side-project at least. Also decided to end the "upload drought" on my Workshop and post an HV I built recently. (Link) Loads of fun to drive, and that's coming from someone who generally dislikes HVs as a ship class.
No good... I'm finding the gravity fields are overlapping too much, making it hard to build much interior. This was a good step but I have to start over... Have to go bigger... This was 61x61 blocks. I'm thinking the next will be about 115. 230m space station, anyone? Edit: settled on 95x95, I do want some overlap and I'm looking forward to playing the angles. Also, mergestructs as a sort of extended symmetry tool that copies paint/textures, sooo handy!
Oh.... my.... That is WONDERFUL. Brilliant! I love the underneath shot and the interior. And it is so big! Gigantic! Look at all the potential for detailing! Keep going! I am eager to see it when it is finished! It kind of reminds me of my arcology that I posted on the artifacts/ruins thread. In fact, Siege! I have inspiration for you! You should build this up, and then convert it into an "abandoned" building! Give it alien textures and spawners and everything! I mean, do not get me wrong, it will be sweet without it, but think of the possibilities!
Looking good my friend! I can't give you much useful advice, I can only tell you what you probably already know; Don't get hung up on any part of the build for too long, detailing (for me at least) involves interating and reworking areas several times, but I have to have Vic handy to say "That's good enough for now, let's move on..." More than anything else, time is the important factor, the more you spend the better the results will be.
I'm just getting started really. Offshore platforms have an insane amount of piping. I'm not going to approach that level because I want people to be able to walk around and see stuff but I do plan to run pipes over the side and along the underside of the platform and over to the main buildings at the very least. @Fractalite I'm going to submit it to Eleon's blueprint thread for sure but I like your idea of making a POI version.
