I've begun work on a CV for my WASD Games Play which'll be screwed into having to be a Transport & Fighter somehow, if that even CAN be done... (By my still-not-epic CV Building Skills. Thinking THAT big is so damn hard... ) Lucky for me I can benefit some from past Mad Empyrion Science CV Building Experience. (Including having a Fav Strat now for how to deal with my Fuel Tanks.) As always, of course i'm performing new Mad Empyrion Science Experiments with this new Build as well.
I did a new video answering a request from the comments: a brief basic guide on how to build with sloped blocks:
My second CV. It's just as ugly as my first though it's far more useful. I put this together to pursue my quest to build a full base and loot an Epic Weapon on every planet. My first attempt was too big to land on the lava planets so... Oddly enough, this thing has tons more unused interior space than my first so I could make it even smaller if need be. I'm going to live with it for awhile and then decide. Specs: Size: 26 X 9 X 16 Block count: 704 Device count: 128
I vote instead of makin your CV smaller, use some of that space for holding & carting around a Mining HV.
Good thought! That hadn't occurred to me. Thank you. That would make undermining POIs a lot less painful. One of the reasons that it was important to be able to land the thing on any planet regardless of terrain is that it's much less trouble to build the needed parts for a base on the CV (I build every base rather than spawning a standard model). Having it nearby just saves some trips up to orbit and back. The minigun turrets will also help to keep anything hostile away until I get the base up and running.
I have been debating on a double-armored large CV, something I have issues with. So today I did a 2-parter. Part 1, created a mobile platform for building CV's so I do not have to worry about them bouncing around while I'm trying to work on the underside. The platform is a stripped CV with the bare minimum for movement so it can be positioned after spawning, it's meant to be destroyed once the CV is complete. Slap lights on it if needed. Then I got to work on the CV itself, I still have a long way to go but I'm feeling it out as I go along. The base in the screenshot is Ooryll's Planetary Dock, it's my go-to base for building in creative.
Nothing wrong with a small CV, I actually have issues building bigger ones trying to figure out what to do with all the extra space.
Today I spent three hours trying to find either the Unknown Artifacts or Unknown Structure for the Custom Tours singleplayer mission. It was a healthy time for my autominers, though. All that time flying around Omicron gave them plenty of time to produce me a stack or so of each ingot. So, I'm not too sad about never finding the POIs I was searching for. I made a post about them... I'm curious if maybe they don't spawn at all currently. Oh, I also raided my first freighter today. Had no issues with it. My CV turrets drilled a hole to the core. I had 30 minutes to loot and strip it. Got a 5 minute warning as well. When time was up, it flashed a bunch and disappeared. Loot was so-so but there was a lot of it. I managed to strip around 2/3 of the ship which means I got tons of components and a crazy amount of Hardened Steel Plates... enough to upgrade half of my CV's blocks from Steel to Combat Steel. So, pretty good day. Tomorrow I'm going to continue scouring Omicron for those damn POIs, unless someone tells me they're broken or something.
Thats my plan this week too, starting my first CV build. Lots of mining to be done. Last night went looking for resources in the abandoned mine. Let's just say that im glad I had enough shotgun shells with me. Just barely, though - I was down to 7 in the end. Man that place was scary! Got rewarded in the end, found Epic Shotgun. Two actually. Don't know what I will do with two but oh well.
I tried to attack a freighter with my survival SV but after shooting two missiles I realized I was out of ammo. It's a good thing Space drones do not follow you like regular drones do.
"Space the final frontier , these are the voyagers of the starship Enterprise E. " lol I tried this ship out on a freighter and the two space drones guarding it. It was pretty EPIC. The guy that created this ship made it huge so if you do download it you might have to use God mode just to find the bridge unless you like getting lost. lol Someone please create a Star Trek Role playing server.
Ok, confession time. I have said I don't enjoy HVs as much since the updated hover mechanics. Truth be told, I simply hadn't cared enough to try them out, since I most often find flying so much simpler. Since my debacle of a mining HV, which turned out so ugly I hate looking at it... I took a few days off from the game. Thinking back, I feel like I want to respect the HV. For me that means learning to build cool ones. If I can build something I'm happy with... So I started playing with designs. Wasn't liking anything. Started poking through old screenshots for inspiration and, well... iI found an old HV from 3.x something version something I'd built. I REALLY liked it. Struck upon a body shape that really appealed to me with that build. Instead of updating it when the new hover mechanics rolled in, I scrapped it. What was I thinking!?! So with only two reference screenshots, rebuilt this guy from scratch. Discovered issues (namely that hover engines ask need to be on the same height off the ground, and my original design didn't do so). Tinkered. Conquered. Needs a paint job, and this is the barebones version. Will tackle those another day. I'm just happy this guy drives level.
I didn't give HVs much of a chance because I wanted wheels added to this game but after I built my first HV I started to enjoy them. They're pretty fun with the new HV mechanics.
Still, as far as utility I really only see myself using them as (a) cheap transport when I'm far enough along the resources are completely inconsequential, (b) mining.
Keep the 2nd as a Spare in case ya get Killed & can't recover the Backpack thus lose the 1st one. Sometimes stuff happens. *Snickers* That sounds like something @LiftPizzas could do. An adorable little cutie. Trading Station, eh...? Or maybe that's what the Pharos WANT the outsiders to think... For the Topic: On my WASD Games Server play, I have so much Crushed Rock, Rock Dust, & Concrete Block supply that i'm seriously considering attempting to trade a big fat lot of it for other goodies to anyone that may want lots of Building Material but not wanna Mine for it...
Today I learned how to actually use a Hover Drill... upgraded one to attach to a CV... Because of the hover drill, I was suddenly able to build the 2nd cheapest default CV blueprint... but it's super awesome Default-or-not. I threw a Flak turret on and was essentially invincible... against the AI. For the FIRST time I went to get Zascosium and Erestrium... Got about 2000 of each and made it back in one piece. However now that I see all these blueprint and learned and to press RIGHT CLICK when I'm building... I feel pretty dumb that I didn't know how to make cool shapes while building. My saves are pretty ugly
Don't worry, they changed the CV/BA lights to be grouped into a single item like the steel blocks a while ago. I had no idea and my creations all had the same lights until I accidentally right clicked and found the rest hiding away!
I'm in the early game again and when I set out to mine a nearby ore deposit a rocket drone popped up from behind the low hills and began firing. Like any good Empyrion vet I jumped toward the thing and eventually managed to bring it down with the pistol. After looting it I went back to the deposit to commence mining and, lo and behold, that drone's first rocket had neatly uncovered the ore. Thank you, drone, you saved me some time and biofuel!
