After building a huge vertical ramp for gliding HVs, I realized that the orange pole barrier is also a vertical ramp! Hehehe... I take my Superbird HV, point it upwards and slam onto the orange barrier. Hold down the forward thrust and rocket up into the upper atmosphere. I try to go through the wall way up there, but it teleports me back to the ground. I try again, this time refraining from touching the wall as I fly straight up and INTO SPACE... What happens when you drive an HV into space shall remain a mystery until you do it for yourself. TRY IT!!
1. Get out of HV 2. Remove helmet 3. Remind yourself that HV means Hover 4. Make peace with the universe
I've actually been pondering some sort of "Taxi" functionality for a while. It stems from when I built a base near the top of a hill, but built a satellite base (connected) at a nearby lake, then deployed H2 Generators there. Walking down was easy, going back up not so much on foot. I'd regularly jump in my SV and fly it from the landing pad on the roof of the main structure, to the one of the roof of the satellite base. This got me thinking how cool it'd be to be able to record some sort of Macro for that flight, automating this 20 second trip. Basically, what if we could create a "taxi" SV that does not have a cockpit, but a multi-block compartment. We could then define multiple locations and an approximate flight path and the "Taxi" SV would take us there. Great for my example, but very cool when going between ground and orbit bases. If we can trust the AI to path-find - hopefully something included in 6.0 for the AI-controlled SV's - then just some sort of configurable "Beacon" block might suffice. Further thought: an option to do this in pairs, so there's always a Taxi on each pad - useful in MP of course. Anyway, that's what I did in the Empyrion universe today...think about that idea and post about it Scoob.
Over the weekend, on the Interstellar Galactic Warfare server I play MP on, I went to my faction's home world. It is a very impressive collection of builds! OMG, they put some effort out. So I enjoyed the coop aspects of the game, talking to fellow players and helping out run things. I was also happy to note that at one point I was on, and a couple of people from a different faction were on as well. Having multiple active factions bodes well for future fun play. I'm not all about PVP, but I'm not opposed to it either. Multi player, even if not fighting, makes the game feel more alive. On SP I am truly alone, a solitary guy marooned in a hostile world, all alone. Okay, that's not a terrible game. With MP I feel like a member of a small team setting up for eventual exploitation of this new frontier. Call it my Old West roots, but I enjoy that scenario.
Look at this thing I made. Introducing, Drinker of Worlds. Really not sure where this Hovercraft fits. Likely late game, but a resourceful person could scavenge for enough materials mid game. Both of these scenarios are considered for survival, BUT, this might be decent for some pvp duty - just be warned, I did not design it with pvp in mind. Super heavy but decently agile for its size, it is all hardened steel, very heavily armed(it has floating gun platforms that assist it in battle,) and has the necessities in the interior - including some fun signage from me; hopefully it helps you chuckle as you murder stuff. Steam Link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=883846582 Just something I have tinkering with, but I like it a lot, and Drinker is tons of fun, Enjoy!
I'm kind of waiting until 6.0 drops to build any more ships. I'm hoping they add a few new block shapes. I've been working on bases instead. This one started as a UFO. I was going to have a central, round shape with spokes connecting to an outer ring but I decided it would make a better base......so I made it much larger and turned it into a Spaceport.
My Ningues SP game has been advancing really slowly - been mostly building and playing coop MP with my friends. So I thought it would be time to remedy that and get out of Ningues. I built really basic SV and took out all the enemy POI's. I wanted to have enough combat steel for a proper armoured CV. Or atleast armoured steel. No luck, they're all the old type with their S size blocks (game started before the POI updates) and no Abandoned Mine or Factory. I only got very little armoured steel so Im saving it all for CV. I got lots of other stuff though, enough Zascosium and Erestrum for example to build all the weapons and rare stuff I need. Little low on Neodymium, hoping to find an asteroid. Started a new SV build to check out the space. Not sure whether there is moon or just asteroids but I wanted something thats rugged enough to go POI / Freighter hunting - and would have enough storage to store all the loot. It started fine, on my Drone Base landing pad I had rebuilt. I accidentally removed one (1) block and the whole ceiling/landing pad came crashing down :/ I must have built that during the dark "no SI"-period. Oh well, fixed some lights outside and built the SV there. ON SOLID GROUND. Sometimes the old ways are the best. This is how it came out. Fits nicely to my base where the landing pad once was. I went for a different approach than usual (this will be the begining of my "other faction" I mentioned earlier). My goal is to do asymmetric designs, bit more rugged and space mercenaries looking, combat oriented and self sufficient vessels that can take a beating but also give something back. Ie. these guys will forcibly acquire stuff instead of gathering & mining. Well this can't take a beating yet - built from soft steel. Will be upgrading once I got the right stuff. Eight large cargo boxes, four pulse lasers, two missile launchers, all the good stuff (constructor, O2 dispenser etc.), ramp access from both sides. Good enough maneuverability and acceleration. Will probably need some rework (added thrusters) after upgrading to armoured steel because of all the added weight. Still unnamed. Suggestions? Well. No moon in Ningues. Couple of asteroids (but no Neodymium or Sathium. Boo!). Tried looking for freighters, in vain. But then I came across this: Jackpot! Really easy to take over, only sentry guns inside. Built mostly from combat steel! Combat steel CV, here I come! Quick trip back to Ningues, and setting up shop here. Very roomy. Plants growing but no other modifications as I will be stripping this out as I build the CV. Well, I shouldn't have needed to go looking for freighters, they are all coming to me! They warp in real close to my new space station, really handy. Got some good stuff for the CV. I also tried my friends approach to sentry guns. If you come at an right angle only popping your head out just a little bit (usually this means going in upside down - easily done as we are in space) - turrets won't shoot! They probably like to shoot at your meaty torso instead of your melon head, who knows? Its bit tricky and not 100% guaranteed but I've gotten decent amount of them without any response.
Made a line-up, 'cause the old one was well out of date. Spoiler: Such Line-up! Many CV! So Wow! Kinda wish I hadn't; now I have a massive long line of ships with loads of little things to fix and I just can't unsee!
Been a while since I got on here. I started a new game with 5.1, thinking maybe this'll be the version I finally get to see what endgame looks like. I haven't been as... restrictive with myself as I usually am, guarding that goal. Basically I started on Akua, lived out of a neural PoI and made that my base, built an HV and SV - both starters, T1 quality. The HV is a hover car of mine I stuck a turret on top, the SV is the stock T1 (which now has many patch jobs and is mostly upgraded to hardened steel.) Took it the drone base, built myself a CV. The Belfast. She's the result of a project I started trying to make a very compact CV that still looked decent and had enough RP amemities to keep me happy with it. I consider her a success, and her maiden voyage she left Akua and departed for Omicron. I took out my first NPC CV there (first for me as a player), and then landed on Omicron's moon looking for Pentaxid. Here she is. She actually has enough hanger space inside for a couple small craft. Not bad for a little ship. Hull's hardened steel, but lag blasters can penetrate it - not much padding. Anyway, I landed in a very pentaxid rich valley, noticed my turrets were going bananas. The place was absolutely crawling with drones! I soon realized why: it wasn't just pentaxid, this valley also had prometheum and neodymium deposits, and the Omicron moon drone base. Model I've never seen before, so I'm assaulting it. My poor SV us taking a beating. I've made two strafing runs, haven't taken out a turret yet, needed repairs after both. I think it's time to upgrade from gatling guns..... Anyways. That's what I've been up to when I'm not replaying Portal 2.
Got a lot done on my Spaceport. Enough that I wanted to test structural integrity. Trying to place a base of this size has....issues. It's very particular about where you're standing. Can't be too far, can't be too close. It has to be juuuuust right. Also, structural integrity is being stupid. Large sections of the base will spawn red despite being on solid ground. When I add a block they update and turn green. At least the building seems structurally sound. /grumble
Is 6.0 COMING SOON?! OH GOD I CANT WAIT!!! Nice ship overhaul! Wow cool as hell. I'm going to go factory one up right now! http://imgur.com/a/uS9m6 Work in progress. I'm building a dock for my new fave CV/Runabout that will connect underground to my base.
I've been having the darndest time getting additional planets in my SP game. I found a small workaround as a temporary solution. Instead of adding planets, I replaced the current planets' playfield.yaml files with the new planets' code. So they're all named the usual Akua, Omicron, etc, but they are completely different. So today I started a new game on a planet I've never been before. Fun to add a little variety to my SP game. A planet with mostly water and mountains. Very few ore deposits, but very rich deposits, so it works out. Other than that, this pretty much sums up my day...
http://imgur.com/a/zO8CO ONe more question before bed... Does this landing pad look strong enough to hold a spaceship or should I add more pretend-trussing? LOOOLLL but srsly wut u think about more trussin
