As much as I liked the idea of the central hangar door - I think that looks much better. It must be very spacious on the inside. How long is it btw?
Two one on one tank battles then another batttlefield style raid. I can't believe all the things you can do in this game right now in the Alpha stage. @rainyday, She's 139 blocks long by 71 wide and 30 tall. Interior space was all sorts of weird after I originally blocked out my central hangar, but I worked around it and still like the layout even though the hangar has radically changed. The process of filling up the space is a matter of thinking what makes sense to be close to whatever it's next to that I have enough space for. My corridors take up a lot of space, but I want the ship to have a very polished feel inside, rather like Star Trek only more militaristic in nature. It's fitting the bill for a long range solo patrol cruiser. Not the largest, and more deterrent than wartime intentions. I think the new space I created with the new topside will be divided between crew quarters and a large hydroponics bay.
I've been working on making buildings for Fractalite's newest challenge. I can't decide what I want to use half of them for yet but I keep building more. I may have a problem. Bottom right is a greenhouse. Above that a tiny little oxygen station. The bottom left is undecided. The one with the landing pad is a hospital. The purple one is a reject. Above the purple building is another undecided. Above that is a park. Top middle is a signal relay tower. In the middle there is the Xenu Radar station to use as reference. Two of the buildings to the left of that are undecideds. The one with the sign sticking up on the upper middle left is a fast food restaurant. The one on the upper left is a factory and that mess of modular buildings on the right is a default building for Omicron that somebody left laying around. Please send help. Now hiring painters.
@Siege Inc. I want to steal them all...... almost every single one down there has *something* that is unusual and eye catching and awesome about it. My buildings all tend to look the same, maybe because I've always been focused on building ships...
@Siege Inc. Nice, it's amazing how quickly you made them all. As for myself, I was working on a new ship design. I'm thinking about calling it a "Guppy". ... and thinking, hard, about how I can make my existing ships 6.0 safe. There are a few I do not think it's possible with.
My existing ships are fairly hopeless for 6.0. I built them as compact as possible and they became unlivable in 6. I would have thought that a culture capable of building a warp drive would have discovered air conditioning somewhere along the way.
And insulation and radiation shielding. @Fluffy It's amazing what you can accomplish when you forego sleep.
I definately think if they want to add radiation and temperature there has to be insulation and shielding or its just stupid. You should be able to build a shielded or standard version of the blocks that produce radiation and the same for blocks that alter temperature.
Not if - they already have. I can see shielded blocks having very little purpose - as the distance of the heat & radiation is currently just 1 block away. So you can build a normal wall around a warp core for example and thus just block your access to the heat & radiation zone.
Lol Walls don't need a shield because they are a shield. I mean a warp core should have a standard version and a more costly shielded version that does not produce any harmful radiation. Same for engines, etc.
Yeah, I've made the assumption for all of our 6.x refits that armoured windows are sufficient shielding for warp cores.
A "Shielded" warp core would be 7x7x4 in size!* *Allowing for shielding added being the same as what we can already use for the same purpose.
No. A shielded one of the same size due to the shielding being incorporated in the existing housing. This would allow retrofitting the ships built prior to be useable without a complete redesign. You could still build the cheaper version if you want to save resources or a version that has the shielding built in for a higher cost but resulting in a more user friendly component.
I think we just need to wait and see how the 6.0 RCS fiasco turns out, right now it seems like they messed with the values a little so much. As for 6.0 compatibility if the Fiasco turns for the better a little bit. Then most if not all of my ships will be ready.
Strange, I would have assumed that the current warp core's housing would already be full of the gubbins to make it work, it's unshielded because there's no room. Of course, if all you want is single block sized devices then you should say so, I mean, the future, right, there's no need for the warp core to be that big, it *could* be one block....... blah blah blah. noise.
Warp cores of various sizes with various ranges would be a great idea, the largest sizes being able to travel to more distant locations in a single hop, but that's different from building a shielded component. They have 2 sizes of hovers now so it's already been done there. I don't think a single block version would be a good idea though, but I guess you could do that if you wanted it. I like the sizes they have now for the long range warp core though. It makes some nice looking engine rooms. In the post you quoted it even says of the same size, meaning the current size, but I like the idea for smaller ones for single planet hops only and larger ones for multi planet ranged cores.
I thought I read somewhere that some of the old ships were not safe for v6. I guess that would be one purpose for shielded blocks. Another would be to have more design freedom. I like design freedom personally although I suppose some prefer to be led by such constraints. Those folks could always continue to follow the constraints anyways though so it wouldn't hurt any type of builder and would help the freedom loving ones.
