I finished updating most of the HPODS to 6.0 today. My prior build practices really assisted in making them 6.0 safe. I would always put components I deemed "hazardous" away from the crew quarters, so the majority of the updates was adding the new equipment and moving thrusters. I just have one ship left, and I really do not think I can make it 6.0 safe. Since I do not see a way to make it safe, I have been debating on scrapping it. And yes, you enter the ship directly underneath a thruster, then walk right under the warp core. Before I do, I wanted to ask the community for feedback on the ship. Should I take away it's warp capability and make it safe? Leave it a death-trap? Or scrap it? The ship in question: HPOD-Mini
I love the minimalist stuff. Having one of these prebuilt in my factory and ready to spawn when I need it could save my bacon. I also like that you focused on form and not just function.
Ok so sit back for a tale. I have not played since 4.0 so I am a few updates behind. I figure time for a new adventure! I want one of these fancy drilling hv's. I start on akua, find the wood cabin get established. I loot the titan and get myself a few levels till I can get a shot gun. I finnaly work my way up to the drill for the HV and decide ok time to make my HV! I build a fancy little hv ready for drills and learn, Well nope. Need an advanced constructor for the drills... I remember thermica station has advanced constructors so now I am assaulting a space station... I still don't have my hv drill!
Rebuilt the Asturia from scratch. Here you go: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=951424648
I managed to get it upgraded, with full functionality intact. But... It's not so "mini" any more. I had to increase the length and width in order to give the interior enough space to keep the player away from hazardous components. I also had to shorten the weapon upgrade bay, but at least it does not look too bad when the weapons are mounted. Stock Weapons mounted.
Left Akua... ...thru Skillon... ... to Ningues! Enjoying the scenery... ...looting the crashed ship parts (which are absolutely brilliant BTW, go check them out!)... ...running out of fuel mid-flight (I want fuel warning light... and oxygen warning light...)... ... and just generally enjoying the local sights and weather Edit: ... and shooting baby lizard mules, guilty as charged
I would like an opinion on something I tried out on a earlier build as an experiment. It was a cockpit with a simulated "viewscreen", but the cockpit has no windows. In order to pilot the vessel you must use 3rd person mode, my question is: Should I scrap the viewscreen and put in windows? Would you want to pilot this ship as-is?
@Fluffy I've seen it used by others too - and I think it's cool. Now, I prefer flying cockpit view - but if 'screen view' fits the ship, then why not. Looks like a nice execution anyway so I wouldn't have a problem with it
Yes, the game can be rather unforgiving at times. Considering that most of the time, we make our way with a fair degree of success, I think it's really cool that the game can put us in our place once in a while, reminding us you can never take things for granted in Empyrion. Not only that, but the devs seem to have grown a little devious. I'm not going to give away any spoilers here, but let it be known that there's cruel and insidious... shall we say "points of no return" out there just waiting for the unwitting player to stumble into. Devious bastards... they conjured and implemented the switch logic, then got all evil with them!
@Fluffy I don't know how important it is to you to keep your HPod Mini 'mini', but I'd say keep the warp capacity AND make it safe by expanding it as need be. I think heat and radiation at this point is only a 1 block deal, so it may be that you wouldn't have to expand too much.
I'm playing atm the survival game and liking that very much. My HOME-ONE is really deared to my heart. But I need to grow, grow out of my children's footwear... and going on. But that's another story. Here another one. I'm trying to build the ultimate fighter - to me. Mostly if I get one in range - stats wise - it's ugly as hell. (I've posted similar to a thruster discussion thread (Thrusters inside the vessel) but thought I could show that here too. Better said, could ask for advice here too, as I'm still in search/need for a) good armed *** b) good armored **** c) good agile/manoeverable ***** d) not too ugly ** ship (number of * show the importance to me) That's impossible for me to build such a ship. I tried: The OmegaFighter. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=946237538 Ugly. Heavy. But armed and armored. And full of Thrusters: 58 S-Jet-Thrusters, 25 RCS, all but some of the back ones are hidden (there would not be any space to put all of them outside!) and sealed in a 13x8x20 package. Stats: - Forward Acceleration: 85m/s² - Brake: 43m/s² - Lateral Thrusters: 45m/s² - Pitch: 5.96deg/s² - Yaw: 4.86deg/s² I even made an uglier version of it: The OmegaFighter MKII (still in WiP) http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=951413560 More ugly, more THRUSTERS: 83 S-Jet-Thrusters!! 57 RCS ultra compact packed in some 9x9x20 package. Stats: - Forward Acceleration: 88m/s² - Brake: 55m/s² - Lateral Thrusters: 74m/s² - Pitch: 11.25deg/s² - Yaw: 11.25deg/s² This thing - as ugly as it is - is a BEAST. There is NO way to build such a "thing" with only "open" thrusters... AND armed and armored to the teeth! But yes, I've tried to build a better looking ship: The DroneHunter http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=951410059 This time ALL Thrusters are exposed! It's half the size (felt, its 9x7x14), all Thrusters can vent open and are visible, so there's not too much of them: 39 S-Jets+M Thrusters, 19 RCS yes, the stats are good too: - Forward Acceleration: 70m/s² - Brake: 28m/s² - Lateral Thrusters: 48m/s² - Pitch: 15.20deg/s² - Yaw: 13.44deg/s² but that Fighter is in no way combat comparable to the other two!! One - even only grazing - shot will make one hole or more in it! It's one thing to make a fine looking ship, or a realistical ship... but for me... I need one that can actually FIGHT and do the Job! ;-) So... how'd you do a fighter with my required features? That's a challenge for ya! ;-)
Reconnoitering the situation, I gained a high vantage point and contemplated my chances for ingress on motorcycle. I swallowed my fear, hopped on my bike, and went for glory. And I made it, don't you know! Woot! Soon I found myself at this stage of the operation, unscathed: What followed was Sathium requirement fulfilled. Just a bit of silicon and neodinium to go, and I knew I had the silicon in my survival constructor. It was a long and arduous journey back to the survival and O2 constructors, traveling west in the middle of the night, only to prolong the trek in darkness. Got jumped by only 1 spider, but I'd gone prepared... had plenty of 5.8 on hand. And then, by the grace of God, I was attacked by 2 Golems nearing the end of the journey. And that, my friends, resulted in this: Probably my most tense, scary, exhilarating, and ultimately satisfying game starts for me ever.
nice simulated "Viewscreen"! could use that in a second emergency command room for when the hell brakes loose or something like that... How'd you do it? Mind if you post the text in a spoiler here?
thanx ;-) but you have to look at it from more sides... it's still ugly haha ;-) this was only the best looking picture I got from it ;-) edit: but yes, the DroneHunter is a very good fast and agile ship for... Drone hunting ;-) if planetside or space, doesn't matter. Perhaps ONE POI too, or ONE spaceship, but latest then it will need some repairs / block replacements... sadly. The other two... I was at the moon (med. difficulty) only wanted to find some ressources. After a lot of hours (I think) I've cleaned all bases (at least weapons/outside), made entrances etc., raided a few more POIs... and got >500 pentaxid. WITHOUT getting the need for repair. THAT'S IT. (besides one minigun and one shutter there was no real damage. And that's what I want and call a true combat fighter. Staying alive and no need for worrying when approaching multiple targets!
I have a sad, sad story that @rainyday didn't tell you. LOL No really, it's so sad. I was taking some photos for the Ningues Hunter's Annual. Here he's brought down a bird raptor that hasn't quite hit the ground yet. It looked like my feature article was going to be impressive with that terrible visibility, but then... *cue violins* He shot tha baybay I said, "Not the babies." He agreed and pointed out they don't have much meat. But I feed everyone so well. I even make the sandwiches. Here's the baby who was spared, running in the place where his family died. It was so very tragic. And how could I tell that little one that I shot his mother?
@rainyday Shhh, I left that part out - on purpose. Well Im glad nobody reads this thread. Right? Right?! But they really didn't have that much meat - so It was good of you to stop me. Let them grow up first
